Black Lightning gets start date (The first pieces of midseason schedule news are out - I expect much of the rest of the midseason news within the next few days.) "The CW has set a premiere date for one of its midseason series:“Black Lightning” will debut Tuesday, Jan. 16. The show, from creators Salim and Mara Brock Akil, will take over the 9 p.m. Tuesday spot following “The Flash.” Its current occupant, “Legends of Tomorrow,” wraps up its fall run on Dec. 5 and will return later in the season — whether back to Tuesdays or to a different spot on the schedule, The CW hasn’t said. The network also has yet to reveal a premiere date for its other new series, “Life Sentence,” returning shows “The 100” and “iZombie” or the final season of “The Originals.” “Black Lightning” stars Cress Williams (“Hart of Dixie,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) as Jefferson Pierce, who in a former life was the superhero Black Lightning. He’s now a school principal but may find himself drawn back into his former life." --------------------- Black Lightning has a 13 episode order and the Jan 16 start date likely means The Flash will also have its winter return that day, too. This schedule modification makes sense - placing LoT on 'hiatus'- as Mark Pedowitz has previously said there wouldn't be more than 4 DC shows on at one time. I'm also reasonably confident that SPN won't be moved 'at midseason' like the last few years. ETA: I am an idiot... I should have scrolled down the announcement "The CW has also set return dates for the remainder of its current lineup after the end-of-year hiatus. They are as follows (all times ET/PT): “Valor”: 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1 (per my records Valor's msf is episode 8 on December 4 post SG's msf, episode 9, so Valor will air its episode 9 on Jan 1, ep 10 on Jan 8 and then ep 11 post SG's winter return on Jan 15. Valor could wrap its 13 ep season on Jan 29 assuming no other changes freeing the post SG timeslot for another show - I'm not going to make a stab at guessing what show.) “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”: 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 (per my records CEG airs its ep 7 on December 8, making its winter return ep 8 of 13. When it finishes its run this frees up another slot. One tv site suggested Life Sentence could go here, but I'm not making that assumption) “Supergirl”: 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 “The Flash”: 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 “Riverdale”: 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 “Dynasty”: 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 “Supernatural”: 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 “Arrow”: 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 “Jane the Virgin”: 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 " (my records indicate that Jane will air its ep 7 on Dec 8 with CEG making its winter return ep 8 of 17 - any show that replaces it is going to be a March/April show) |

Another midseason link Includes slightly more info Includes Season wrap dates for Valor and CEG with the addition note that Legends of Tomorrow returns on a new night and time in February. LoT can only go Fridays or Mondays post SG – which is more likely. That leaves Life Sentence – I guess – to premiere on Fridays, taking over CEGs slot. I don't think The CW would ship LoT to Fridays; the now 'fact' that LoT is not taking a 13 week or so break means Pedowitz must have reversed his stance on 5 DC shows airing at the same time. My speculation is that either The 100 or iZombie takes the post Flash slot after BL airs its 13 episodes and the Final Season of TO is almost certainly slated for Fridays. |

This is my 'in case this board shuts down 'ratings-lite' post. This post will be followed by a properly formatted post this weekend. This week, TF was out front with 1.0, SPN adjusted up from 0.6 to 0.7 (yay, ratings-wise) SG/RD/Arrow tied at 0.5 and Valor and Dynasty at 0.2 |

CW ratings for the week starting 11-13-17 11-13 SG 1.89M, 0.5 Valor 0.94M, 0.2 11-14 TF 2.455M, 1.0 LoT 1.53M, 0.5 11-15 RD 1.43M, 0.5 Dynasty 0.635M, 0.2 11-16 SPN 13.06 1.89M, 0.7 Arrow 6.06 1.28M, 0.5 11-17 CEG 3.06 <1M,0.2 JtV 4.06 <1M, 0.2 All CW shows aired their episodes '6' this week. Starting next week that will change as RD/Dyn and CEG/JtV have their Thanksgiving break. CW L+3's for ep 6's with Friday exception Extracted SPN/Arrow SPN Supernatural 0.659 .... 1.04 Arrow 0.460 …. 0.74 SPN had it's highest L+3 increase this season and still might not make the top 25. If not, I'm guestimating at least 1.1. ETA #1: Live + 7 DVR results for week ending Nov 19, 2017 Chart 1: TF 1.0 to 1.7, 70% Chart 2: JtV 0.2 to 0.5, 150%; LoT & RD 0.5 to 1.0, 100%; SG 0.5 to 0.9, 80% Chart ended at 71% |

I'm posting this week's ratings early because The CW is airing part 2 of a special, pre-recorded 'I heart music' special that was delayed due to the tragic events in Las Vegas in early October - and Thanksgiving's Final Ratings are delayed until at least Tuesday afternoon. 11-20 SG (3.07) 1.92M, 0.5 Valor (1.07) 1.00M, 0.2 11-21 TF 4.07 2.20M, 0.8 LoT 3.07 1.49M, 0.5 11-22 CW 2 hr Special Night 1 11-23 Thanksgiving - ratings don’t count SPN 13.07 1.2M, 0.3 Arrow 6.07 1.1M, 0.3 11-24 CW 2 hr Special Night 2 ------------------- SPN and Arrow both did horribly as expected although at least one site, TVBTN, persists in calling their ratings 'series lows' with only a brief mention that the ratings 'probably won't count because they are 'Specials'. I will post Thursday's final ratings when they are released instead of using the rounded viewer totals. ------------------------------ M-W L+3's including SG/Valor/TF/LoT ep 7's Also including final, unroundeds for SPN/Arrow Thanksgiving. Only L+3’s for M-W are available so far for SG/Valor/TF/LoT ep 7’s, but Thanksgiving Day SPN/Arrow’s ‘0.3’s’ are listed – RJK usually updates when the new L+3’s are released. Chances are good SPN 13.08 finals will be delayed, too, because everything was delayed several days because of Thanksgiving. ETA #1:Updated L+3's for Thanksgiving Week Extracted SPN/Arrow ep 7's SPN 0.34 to 0.745 Arrow 0.33 to 0.645 So both shows ~ doubled demos in their L+3’s ETA #1: Live + 7 DVR results for week ending Nov 26, 2017 Chart 1: TF 0.8 to 1.6, 100%; SG 0.5 to 1.0, 100%; SPN and Arrow 0.3 to 0.8, 167%* *Fewer broadcast shows Thanksgiving week were new, so relatively ‘low rated’ SG and unusually low rated SPN and Arrow made ‘Chart 1’. As always any show that makes Chart 1 also makes Chart 2. Both SPN and Arrow also had 98% viewer gains Chart 2: LoT 0.5 to 0.9, 80%; Valor 0.2 to 0.3, 50% RD/Dyn/CEG/JtV did not air this week |

Ratings for the week starting November 27, 2017 (I was waiting on Thursday's SPN ratings which were delayed until this morning. The L+3's for Thankgiving SPN/Arrow are also not available yet, nor 'this' week's SPN) 11-27 SG 3.08 2.71M, 0.9 Arrow 6.08 Special Night 2.52M, 0.9 11-28 TF 4.08 2.82M, 1.0 Lot 3.08 2.80M, 0.9 11-29 RD 2.07 1.45M, 0.5 Dyn 1.07 0.64M, 0.2 11-30 SPN 13.08 1.74M, 0.6 adj up from 0.5 --> against a major football game on NBC (Cowboys vs Redskins) and football aired on major cable stations, even TBBT hit a ‘series low’ but also adj up and avoided it. I'm amazed SPN managed to adjust up because the A18-34's stayed a very low 0.3. Penn & Teller Special 1.14M, 0.3 12-1 Grandma got run over by a Reindeer 0.3 Master's of Illusion special 0.2 L+3's Arrowverse crossover, RD, Dynasty L+3’s for Arrowverse ep 8’s, Dynasty and RD ep 7’s (I’m assuming SPN 7/Arrow 7 and SPN 8 haven’t been released yet - will edit when available. NOTE: Edited SPN/Arrow ep 7's in above post) ETA: RJK updated SPN's 13.08 L+3 increase yesterday - 0.88 but didn't include the final unrounded. TVSeriesFinale which posts 2 digit unroundeds still has 0.6(0) as their data point but they're always around a week behind. I doubt the final unrounded was more than 0.56-0.58. The only another source I know for two digit 'unrounded finals' is sitcomsonline.com and that site seems to have dropped that feature. So bottom line, not a great increase. Fresh edit: SPN 0.552 to 0.88 ETA #2: Live + 7 DVR results for week ending Dec 3, 2017 Chart 1: Arrow & LoT 0.9 to 1.7, 89%; TF 1.0 to 1.7, 70%; SG 0.9 to 1.6, 78% Chart 2: RD 0.5 to 1.0, 100%; SPN 0.6 to 1.0, 67% SPN had a 62% viewer increase as well – viewer increases that make Chart 4 have been rare this season for SPN It's a relief to have a hard number and not have to add my guestimate figure again. Also hard data on 13.08 being a viewer success despite having a much weaker '0.6' than prior 0.6's (due to heavy sports competition as was the case for 13.09's weak '0.6' |

Correction to above post: SG and LoT to timeslot share THE CW’S NEW MONDAY 8PM SCHEDULE DELIVERS 23 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS OF ORIGINAL EPISODES OF “SUPERGIRL” AND “DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW” After the Holidays, “Supergirl” to Air Mondays 8 pm For 4 Weeks Starting January 15 “Legends” Takes Over the Time Period on February 12 for 9 Weeks of Original Episodes “Supergirl” Reclaims Monday 8pm, Returning with New Episodes in April December 8, 2017 (Burbank, CA) – Following the holiday break, SUPERGIRL and DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW will rotate through the The CW’s Monday 8pm time period, offering fans 23 consecutive weeks of original episodes. As previously announced, SUPERGIRL will return from its midseason break Monday, January 15 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT) for a four week run of original episodes. Starting on Monday, February 12, DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW will move into the 8pm time period for 9 weeks until its third season finale on April 9. After LEGENDS completes its run, SUPERGIRL is back with brand new episodes starting Monday, April 16 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT) until its season finale on June 18. Additionally, The CW will have five shows premiering this midseason, including two new series BLACK LIGHTNING, premiering Tuesday, January 16 (9:00-10:00pm ET/PT), and LIFE SENTENCE, premiere date TBD. Following is The CW’s Monday 8pm Schedule for Midseason 2018. All times ET/PT: MONDAY, JANUARY 15 – FEBRUARY 5 8:00-9:00 PM SUPERGIRL (New Episodes) MONDAY, FEBRUARY 12 – APRIL 9 8:00-9:00 PM DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (New Episodes) MONDAY, APRIL 16 – JUNE 18 ================ There are two schools of thought on this odd scheduling. 1)This move fulfills Mark Pedowitz's promise not to have 5 DC shows airing at the same time and 2) Andrew Kreisberg, Supergirl's showrunner, was just terminated. It will take time to appoint a new showrunner and with both SG and LoT a near guarantee for S4 renewal regardless of the ratings it was likely the simplest decision. Kreisberg was co-showrunner of The Flash and 'EP' on Legends and Arrow but EP is frequently a title in name only once you've climbed up the ladder and has no real responsibilities. There's no news yet on what will air at 9 once Valor ends. It could be either Life Sentence or The 100 (I think iZombie and The Originals are less likely) |

Ratings for the CW week starting December 4, 2017 12-4 SG 3.09 msf 1.81M, 0.5 Valor 1.08 0.93M, 0.2 12-5 TF 4.09 msf 2.22M, 0.8 LoT 3.09 msf 1.61M, 0.6 12-6 RD 2.08 1.48M, 0.5 Dyn 1.08 0.64M 0.2 12-7 SPN 13.09 msf 1.74M, 0.6 adj up from 0.5 Arrow 6.09 msf 1.30M, 0.4 -->: series low 12-8 prelims CEG msf <1M, 0.2 JtV msf <1M, 0.3 ====================== It was a lackluster msf week for the post crossover highs for the Arrowverse; SG returned to it's usual 0.5, TF was down 0.2, LoT managed to improve from its several 0.5's to 0.6 and Arrow hit a new series low of 0.4. SPN adjusted up to 0.6 once again - Next week the msf's of Valor, RD and Dynasty air. L+3'sfor the wek ending 12-8-17 Extracted SPN/Arrow Much like last week - see edit - SPN just squeaked by with it's '0.6' final SPN 0.555 to 0.88 Arrow 0.426 to 0.71 I'm guestimating a strong 0.9 final demo if SPN doesn't makes the charts again. Arrow's relative increase is much higher than SPN's and although SPN is still doing very well for a 13 year old show, it's not seeing as much delayed viewing since last spring as in prior years. ETA #1: Live + 7 DVR results for week ending Dec 10, 2017 Chart 1: TF 0.8 to 1.4, 75%; RD 0.5 to 1.1, 120% Chart 2: SPN 0.5 (incorrect, it adjusted up 0.6) to 1.0, 100% (67%) Sources: TVBTN/Showbuzzdaily/SpottedRatings; Arrow 0.4 to 0.8, 100%; JtV 0.3 to 0.6, 100%; SG 0.5 to 0.9, 80% SPN also had a 54% viewer increase, Arrow 68% |

Ratings for Monday and Friday, first week of 2018 1-1-18 Valor 1.10 0.67M, 0.2 1-5 CEG 3.08 <1M, 0.2 preliminary Next week the only new CW episode is CEG 3.09 on Friday and I won't report that - it's likely to get an 0.2. The CW is rerunning the 4 show DC crossover on Monday and Tuesday but 'Specials' on Wednesday and Thursday. Most CW shows reran last week and all received 0.2's except Dynasty which received an 0.1, 0 'share' - I can't believe The CW will likely renew this ratings flop. Tomorrow, 1-7-18, is The CW Winter TCA press tour and last year featured mass renewals of every 'Fall 2016' show except No Tomorrow and Frequency. This year might be the same, at the very least some news on Supernatural as every other fall show except Valor and possibly Jane the Virgin are automatic renewals based on Netflix's 'at least 4 seasons with conclusion' "deal with The CW" or contract status for still steady shows (Arrow). The only show(s) that might get 'Sx IS the Final Season' are JtV and The 100. I'm 99% sure that SPN will be renewed for S14 to get at least 300 episodes and 'Wayward Sisters' might get a very early series order in advance of the 'official planted pilot' episode, 13.10. |

The season finale of BLACK LIGHTNING will air Tuesday, April 17 (9:00-10:00pm ET/PT). Following is The CW’s complete midseason premiere schedule. All times ET/PT: TUESDAY, JANUARY 16 8:00-9:00 PM THE FLASH (New Episode) 9:00-10:00 PM BLACK LIGHTNING (Series Premiere) MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26 8:00-9:00 PM DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (New Episode) 9:00-10:00 PM IZOMBIE (Season Premiere) WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7 8:00-9:00 PM RIVERDALE (New Episode) 9:00-10:00 PM LIFE SENTENCE (Series Premiere) FRIDAY, APRIL 20 8:00-9:00 PM DYNASTY 9:00-10:00 PM THE ORIGINALS (Season Premiere) TUESDAY, APRIL 24 8:00-9:00 PM THE FLASH (New Episode) 9:00-10:00 PM THE 100 (Season Premiere) SOURCE: CW ________________________________________ Speaking with TVLine on Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, CW president Mark Pedowitz said that “production issues” played a part in the decision to spell Supergirl. “We had a moment where they had some production issues,” he said — ones that predated and were independent of Andrew Kreisberg’s removal as co-showrunner, sources tell TVLine. Pedowitz also cited his previous belief that The CW, for fear of “overload,” ideally doesn’t want all five superhero shows airing concurrently. Pedowitz on SPN and more Brief Passage “One of the sturdiest CW ratings performer — linearly and digitally — has been veteran Supernatural, currently in its 13th season. It’s become a TCAtradition to check on the future prospects of the series, which has repeatedly defied expectations. Noting that he and his CW team are not ready to announce renewal decisions yet, “next year would be Supernatural‘s 300th episode which is remarkable,” Pedowitz told Deadline. “That show will go on as long as it keeps going, the boys (stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) keep doing it and the ratings keep holding.” Pedowitz also mentions the planted Wayward Sisters pilot and the potential The Originals Spinoff centered on two of the main character’s daughter, Hope. I won’t cherrypick Pedowitz’s words (read the full link, it’s really well written) wrt Wayward Sisters but he makes one comment deserving of separate highlighting. Sounds like the ‘Charmed’ is still under consideration. (Again, I caution that the only guarantee is SPN going at least 300 episodes, particularly true if WS doesn’t get an early series order press release) More relating to DC-verse pending renewals General explanation of why no early renewals Abstracted: "We haven’t renewed anything yet,” Pedowitz notes. “We’re not quite ready to do that. We’re a couple of weeks out. I’m pretty confident a lot of the [CW] slate is coming back. We’re just not ready to make that a formal announcement yet. It is only Jan. 7. It’s just a question of the board and I getting together and having a discussion about it. We just weren’t ready with the holidays and this came just days later. We’ll get there. I’m confident most of our schedule is coming back.” |

Ratings week starting Jan 15, 2018 (to be edited) (1-12 CEG 3.09 <1M 0.2) 1-15 SG 3.10 Winter Return 2.17M, 0.6 up 0.1 from msf Valor 1.11 0.98M 0.2 1-16 TF 3.10 Winter Return 2.51M, 0.8 even w/msf Black Lightning (BL) 1.01 Series Premiere 2.31M 0.8 100% demo retention from TF 1-17 RD 2.10 Winter Return 1.44M 0.5 Dyn 1.10 Winter Return 0.63M 0.2 MLK Holiday is delaying all ratings - Thursday Finals will be delayed until Monday So far SPN 13.10 has a 0.6 demo, and Arrow, 0.5, but there were CW preemptions for Basketball and I don't know how many viewing areas were affected. At least one poster said their viewing area was delaying SPN (and I assume Arrow) until Saturday. The ratings on showbuzzdaily were kind of odd with an increase in male viewers compared to female which generally reflects a 'sports preemption' impact. 1-18 SPN 13.10 Winter Return 1.85M 0.6 Arrow 6.10 Winter Return 1.38M 0.5 So, The CW preemptions did not affect the preliminary demo of either show. 1-19 aired repeats of BL &P&T ETA #2: 'This week' and 'next week' The CW only released L+3's for Monday thru Wednesday. RJK at spottedratings told me that it's up to the individual Network to release all the 'top 25' data for that week but individual show data is on the entire Nielsen list, you just have to have an account with Nielsen to get that data. So, no L+3's for the winter returns of SPN (the WS planted pilot, 13.10), Arrow 6.10, SPN 13.11 and Arrow 6.11. L+3s Mon - Wed, 1-15 to 1-17 My usual source for L+7's, TVBTN, is really behind - the site hasn't even posted today's preliminary results for last night yet (Wednesday). However the L+7's are out but I can only find some of the data that's reported - again on spottedratings, if he/she has time to respond. I'm sure TVBTN's post will be out maybe tomorrow, maybe next week but for now he/she answered some queries" ETA #3: Select L+7's in comment section (I'll edit post when TVBTN posts their L+7's) Chart 1: TF 0.8 to 1.5, 88%, BL 0.8 to ? Chart 2: SG 0.6 to 1.0, 67%; SPN 0.6 to 1.0, 67%*; Arrow 0.5 to 0.9, 80% I'm sure at least RD made the L+7's too but they weren't posted yet. SPN 13.10 did fairly well, matching 13.09's increase but a bit behind 13.03's (Patience) 0.6 to 1.1 I'm reasonably sure WS will get a series. ETA #4: Speak of the Devil TVBTN recently posted their L+7's for the week ending 1-21-18. The only addition to Chart 2 was RD, rising from 0.5 to 1.0, 100%. BL only made Chart 4 with 57% viewer increase. All other shows made Chart 4 except SPN. Chart 4 ended at 52%, which means the highly advertised WS planted pilot didn't even gain 52% in viewers. Besides the Supernatural spinoff, Wayward Sisters, The CW has ordered two more pilots , the Charmed reboot (CBS) and Dead Inside (WB). Pilot orders are not the same as 'ordered to series' though the Charmed reboot has high probability of gaining a series order. |

Via twitter, TVFanatic's Clarissa says that TF, SPN and Arrow will air repeats the week starting Feb 12.2018 - I guess The CW is not airing against the Olympics. LoT replaces SG that Monday, so I expect the show to air straight through. Likewise BL is airing straight through, too. No word on RD/Dyn yet. I can't remember what eps CEG/JtV will air without checking the finale dates. |
