Could have sworn I posted the Fast Nationals already  .

2/25/11
SV Ep 10.15 2.55M ( A18-49; 1.0/4)
SPN Ep 6.152.17 M (A18-49; 1.0/3 )

Per TVBTN, via The CW:

The CW was #2 last night in A18-34 (1.0/4) and M18-34 (1.2/5). Versus last week, The CW’s friday night was up 9% in total viewers (2.4M), 11% in A18-34 (1.0/4) and up 9% in M18-34 (1.2/5) and M18-49 (1.2/4)

Smallville was up in most key demos last night versus last week, up 14% in total viewers (2.5M), up 11% in A18-34 (1.0/4) and flat in A18-49. Smallville ranked #2 in the hour in A18-34 (1.0/4), M18-34 (1.3/5) and M18-49 (1.3/4)

SUPERNATURAL was #1 in the hour in M18-34 (1.2/4-tie) and #2 for the hour in A18-34 (1.0/4). SUPERNATURAL held steady from last week in key demos, including total viewers (2.2M), and A18-49 (1.0/3) and was up 10% in M18-49 (1.1/3)

(Where was SPN's CW Press Release last week when SPN beat SV in all areas and was #2 in total viewers and in A18-49? )

Finals
Smallville
- 2.563 million viewers
- 1.5/3 HH
- 1.0/4 A18-49
- 1.0/4 A18-34
- 0.7/3 W18-34

Supernatural
- 2.184 million viewers
- 1.3/2 HH
- 1.0/3 A18-49
- 1.1/4 A18-34
- 0.9/3 W18-34

Both ticked up a little in total viewers. In the finals, SPN did better than SV in A18-34 and W18-34 and that’s an area I wish SPN would improve a little because it’s close to bottom for CW shows.

Edited 3/14/11 to add DVR results:
Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows

It was SPN’s turn this week to make the chart. At #9 Supernatural rose 40% from 1.0 to 1.4 A18-49

3/4/11
SV Ep 10.16 2.34M (A18-49; 1.0/3) (Per PIFeedback – TVBTN says 2.24M)
SPN Ep 6.16 2.22M (A18-49; 1.0/3)

Drats…. I was hoping that w/o Fox’s usual lineup that at least SPN would do better (at least 1.1) in the Adult18-49 demo to “make up” for the 0.9 SPN received for 6.13 Unforgiven.

Still, the Friday lineup did receive some positives though keep in mind that CSI:NY was a rerun and still managed to kick SPN’s booty  . I don’t know if the Fast Nat’s for SPN will hold because it was preempted for basketball… somewhere… a few fans were talking about it on The CW board.

From TVBTN:Smallville and Supernatural were steady vs. last Friday with each pulling a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating and led CW to a victory for the night with adults 18-34 (1.0 rating) and men 18-34 (1.1 rating).

The CW gave “us” another good ratings note:
“The CW was #1 last night in A18-34 (1.0/3) and M18-34 (1.1/5)

SUPERNATURAL was #1 for the hour in A18-34 (1.0/4), M18-34 (1.1/4) and #2 in W18-34 (1.0/4- tie). It was even from last week in total viewers (2.2M) and A18-49 (1.0/3)

Smallville was #1 for the hour in M18-34 (1.2/5) and #2 in A18-34 (0.9/4) and M18-49 (1.2/4)”

Finals
Smallville
- 2.177 million viewers
- 1.4/3 HH
- 0.9/3 A18-49
- 0.9/4 A18-34
- 0.6/3 W18-34

Supernatural
- 2.137 million viewers
- 1.3/2 HH
- 1.0/3 A18-49
- 1.0/4 A18-34
- 1.0/4 W18-34

SV just edged out SPN in total viewers but SPN beat SV in all key recorded demo; SV may have beat SPN in M18-34 and M18-49 (not reported on this table) accounting for the 40,000 viewer difference or may have done better in A25-54 which is also not noted in this data; both SV and SPN frequently perform well in “older adults” as does Nikita but unfortunately the over 50 crowd is not as important to the advertisers, nor is the under 18 crowd except for shows specifically targeted for younger viewers.

Edited 3/21/11 to add DVR results:
For week ending March 6 – includes SV10.16/SPN 6.16:

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows

#2 Smallville, rising 44% going from 0.9 to 1.3. ANTM was #1 also gaining 44% going from 0.9 to 1.3
#7 Supernatural, rising 40% going from 1.0 to 1.4

For this week even after adding in DVR SPN was #1 in the CW lineup in “Adult Demo” because TVD/Nikita were both reruns this week.

Since both shows are on hiatus, the earliest we’ll get DVR results for 10.17/6.17 is at the end of April –early May and IIRC DVR results started drying up in May

Reruns

3/11/11
SV Ep 10.12 1.56M (A18-49; 0.5/2)
SPN Ep 6.12 1.32M (A18-49;0.5/2 )

In fast nationals reruns of both shows did very well against all new competition; at 9 pm CSI:NY had 11.04M viewers and a 2.0 demo. Fringe had 3.76M viewers and a steady 1.5/5 demo. SPN faced more viewer and demo competition than SV. For the week, SV and SPN beat every CW scripted show’s reruns in total viewers and A18-49 demo, and beat the new reality show SFTW in these areas as well.

Finals
Smallville, R, 91% coverage, usual 95%
1.323 million viewers
- 0.8/1 HH
- 0.5/2 A18-49
- 0.4/2 A18-34
- 0.3/1 W18-34

Supernatural (R, 91% coverage)
- 1.116 million viewers
- 0.7/1 HH
- 0.5/1 A18-49
- 0.4/2 A18-34
- 0.4/1 W18-34

Both shows were preempted in some markets but The CW Friday reruns still beat every other CW rerun this week and the new SFTW. Go Team SuperVille. :rah

3/18/11
SV Ep 10.13 1.48M (A18-49;0.6/2 )
SPN Ep 6.13 1.32M (A18-49; 0.5/2 )

SPN had the same FN viewers and the demo as last week, while SV fell slightly in viewers and increased in demo. I don’t know if there were preemptions this week.

Pretty much all networks running new episodes were affected in demo at least because CBS is splitting the “March Madness” BBall tournament with 3 cable networks this year. In FN’s Fringe pulled very similar viewers as the last few episodes (3.80M) but dropped in demo to a series low of 1.3/5 whereas the show had been maintaining a 1.5/5 demo average for the last several new episodes.

Finals
Smallville
- 1.425 million viewers
- 0.8/2 HH
- 0.5/2 A18-49
- 0.5/2 A18-34
- 0.5/2 W18-34

Supernatural
- 1.346 million viewers
- 0.8/1 HH
- 0.5/2 A18-49
- 0.4/2 A18-34
- 0.4/2 W18-34

In the Finals SV lost 0.1 adult demo and lost some viewers but more of those viewers were “young adults”. SPN maintained its 0.5/2 demo but less of those adults were “young”adults.

SV lost some viewers and SPN gained; the fact that SPN's rerun viewers dropped from 1.32M avg for the last weeks may be a combination of factors - a less than stellar episode performing poorer in the rerun, the day before Fox announced Fringe was renewed (this was not reflected in Fringe getting a much larger of viewers, however) and the fun but dark female action movie "Sucker Punch" premiering. Still The CW Thursdays and Fridays are performing much better than The CW's Mondays and Tuesdays.

SV Ep 10.16 1.235M (A18-49; 0.5/2 )
SPN Ep 6.15M 1.284M (A18-49; 0.5/1.5 avg )

"SV" decided to air it’s cliffhangerish 10.16 (Scion) instead of episode 10.15 for reasons that will be explained later.

SPN slightly edged out SV in total viewers and beat SV’s adult demo in the first half hour (0.6/2 vs 0.5/2 for both halves of SV) and then fell to 0.4/1 – weird. Fringe was also a rerun at 1.97M (avg) viewers and Fringe’s demo also dropped at the second half from 0.7/2 to 0.6/2 so SPN viewers were not switching over to Fringe. Maybe both Fringe and SPN viewers were switching to CSI:NY whose viewers and demo each increased or went to the movies – I think Source Code opened yesterday and Sucker Punch is still playing both of which would attract the Scifi/Horror/Dramedy young adults fans who watch either or both SPN and Fringe.

Just a note for both shows: Next Friday (April 8) SV will be repeating their series premiere (Episode 1.01) and rather than repeating SPN 6.16 as was on the original repeat schedule, SPN will re-air episode 6.04 Weekend at Bobby’s – my theory is this is the episode many fans have on their top 3 episodes of S6, the episode scored in total viewers and demo nearly as high as the S6 premiere (and in my opinion was much better than the premiere) and of course was directed by Jensen Ackles who did a superb job.

Finals
Smallville

Sorry this is late - Finals should be available Monday afternoon or early evening.

:rah There is a new episode this Friday! We've survived the Spring Hellatus! :rah

Reruns
4/1/11
SV Ep 1.01 Series Premier 1.92M (A18-49;0.7/2 )
SPN Ep 6.04 WAB 1.52M (A18-49; 0.6/2 )

SV and SPN FN’s are likely on the high side because the eps were preempted in Chicago (#3 market); so the results may fall dramatically depending on how many Nielson viewers were watching the sporting event.

According to my data – which may be off – the last time SPN was preempted in Chicago was for SPN 6.09 (and the SV episode?) and it was for a political event not a sporting event. 6.09 was our Fall low with FN’s of 2.03M, 0.9/3 in A18-49 Finals of 1.94M viewers (just over 4% decrease) but iirc there were mixed reports that the episode aired after the debate in a few preempted areas. I think far more viewers would be inclined to watch a major sporting event (Bulls defeated Cavaliers to clinch the #1 slot in NBA’s Eastern Conference) so the SV/SPN finals

(At least) SPN was also preempted in Chicago on 10/8/11 (Ep 6.03 TTM) by a baseball game and the show lost 0.1 adult demo point (0.9 from 1.0) and just over 5% of viewers falling from 2.28 to 2.16M.

A poster on sn.tv also gave the bad -ish news that the finale episodes, 6.21/22 would also be preempted in Chicago for a sporting event. I hope that we have renew/not renew news at least several weeks before - SPN is preempted on 5/13/11 for the two hour SV series finale - so fans are pumped (hopefully not depressed assuming the show IS NOT renewed) so Chicago fans will tune in.

Finals
Smallville (R, 62 minutes, 92% coverage CW normally 95%)
- 1.550 million viewers
- 1.0/2 HH
- 0.5/2 A18-49
- 0.5/2 A18-34
- 0.5/2 W18-34

Supernatural (R, 58 minutes, 92% coverage)
- 1.057 million viewers
- 0.7/1 HH
- 0.4/1 A18-49
- 0.4/2 A18-34
- 0.5/2 W18-34

Ouch! The Chicago pre-emption really hurt both shows’ Finals – good thing it was only reruns but now I dread posting the 6.21/6.22 finale results. I hope more than ever that we hear renewal news soon so those fans affected in the Chicago area even bother watching the episodes as soon they’re aired. The "Upfronts" are May 19 - the day before and that's the latest current CW shows will know the their status.

First new post -Spring Hellatus episode ... could be better but not too shabby :) .

4/15/11
SV Ep 10.17 2.33M (A18-49; 1.0/3)
SPN Ep 6.17 2.20M (A18-49; 0.9/3)

Just to put SPN’s results into perspective after a six week hiatus, TVD & Nikita’s returns on 4/7/11 were series low or ties, too. This week Fringe’s episode (per FN’s) tied their series low at 1.3/4 and had a series low in viewers. SPN did significantly better than Nikita’a return and better than this Thursday’s episode in demo and is currently tied or very close to in total viewers. SV’s return was up 0.1 in demo vs the last new episode and did better in total viewers but was within average since it’s post Winter Hellatus return. TVD & Nikita’’s results were “up” this Thursday – the second week post Spring Hellatus and hopefully SPN’s will be too especially as next week’s episode is the highly anticipated “Frontierland”. Mark Berman (PIFeedback) assumes SPN will take SMV’s place on Fridays (8 pm) slot. So far every TV rating site I browse thinks SPN is a certainty for renewal.

Finals
Smallville
- 2.374 million viewers
- 1.4/3 HH
- 1.0/4 A18-49
- 1.0/4 A18-34
- 0.8/3 W18-34

Supernatural
- 2.257 million viewers
- 1.4/2 HH
- 0.9/3 A18-49
- 0.9/3 A18-34
- 0.9/3 W18-34

Both shows gained some viewers and their adult demos remained the same. In this week’s episode, I hope SPN goes back up to 1.0 or possibly higher in A18-49 and at least 1.0 in W18-34.

Edited 5-2-11 to add DVR results for 4-11 thru 4-17 (includes SV 10.17/SPN 6.17)

4/22/11
SV Ep 10.18 2.23M (A18-49; 0.9/3)
SPN Ep 6.18 1.97M (A18-49; 0.9/3)

See episode poll thread for addition comments; additionally SMV and SPN) was bumped in at least the St. Louis market due to tornado coverage and (I think) pre-empted in Atlanta, too, for a sporting event.

Fringe was tied at a series low pending Finals (3.51 M 1.2/4). Since the two sites I checked didn’t post half hour breakdowns I have no idea if SPN will rise or fall in the Finals. I expect a drop, hopefully not more than to 0.8 in the demo and a tie with Nikita’s demo for Holy Thursday. TVD also hit a tie for series low in A18-49 (1.2/4), and lows in W18-34 (1.5/5) and total viewers (I think). Apparently some fans in the St. Louis area reported scattered power outages and I read reports that the St. Louis market hasn’t rescheduled SMV & SPN yet (maybe they have while I’ve been writing/posting this) as is normally the case with pre-planned preemptions.

ETA: TVBTN posted half-hour breakdowns:

Smallville: 0.8/1.0
Fringe: 1.2/1.2
Supernatural: 0.9/0.8

So, SPN has a good chance of falling to 0.8 (or lower) in the Finals :( .

Finals
Smallville (94% coverage CW normally 95%)
- 2.352 million viewers
- 1.4/3 HH
- 1.0/4 A18-49
- 0.7/3 A18-34
- 0.5/2 W18-34

Supernatural (94% coverage)
- 1.904 million viewers
- 1.1/2 HH
- 0.9/3 A18-49
- 0.7/3 A18-34
- 0.6/2 W18-34

Preemptions had no affect on SMV, in fact the adult demo increased 0.1 to 1.0/4 and added a healthy increase in viewers. Fortunately SPN retained 0.9/3 but hit a series low in viewers while both SMV and SPN performed substandard in young adults with SPN barely edging out SMV in W18-34. Make no mistake these young demo figures are awful for new episodes. I hope SPN rebounds in viewers and the young demoes this Friday.

Fringe also hit a series low in viewers (3.32M) and tied its series low in demo.
Perhaps more Nielson fans of both 9 pm shows were doing other things at 9 pm and didn't bother watching their recordings by 3 am to count in the Live + SD Finals.

Edited 5/9/11 to add DVR results
Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

#10 SMV rising 40% from 1.0 to 1.4
#21 SPN rising 33% from 0.9 to 1.2

Note: I’m very surprised that Frontierland didn’t rise more for such a long awaited episode that most critics and fans loved.

4/29/11
SV Ep 10.19 1.94M (A18-49; 0.75/3) (my own averages)
SPN Ep 6.19 1.94M (A18-49; 0.85/3) (ditto)

SV and SPN were tied for total viewers but SPN just edged out SV in demo. Fans were reporting power outages in the southern affected affected by the devastating tornados as well as local preemptions for Royal Wedding coverage and local sports so SPN's demo may drop to 0.8 because that was the last half hour demo.

From Hollywood Deadline: (I thank Mark Wood on PIFeedback and TVBTN for this tip) “CW's Smallville was down 20% vs. last week in 18-49 (0.8/3) but up 14% in 18-34 (0.9/3), Supernatural was flat in 18-49 (0.9/3) but up 29% in 18-34 (0.9/3).”

That’s some good news considering last week both SV’s and SPN’s A18-34 was 0.7/3.
(Hollywood Deadline doesn’t always post The CW results)

Finals
Smallville (96% coverage CW normally 95%)

- 1.3/2 HH
- 0.9/3 A18-49

I think I’m out of the prognostication business  because Woo hoo! :rah SPN did crack 2M in viewers and 1.1/4 in young women is the show’s highest rating since the “winter premiere of 6.12 with 1.3/4.

SV Ep 10.20 2.00M (A18-49; 0.8/3)
SPN Ep 6.20 2.08M (A18-49;0.9/3)

Also, ratings wise, per TVBTN SPN tied with another show (Fringe, maybe?) for the lead in A18-34 (1.0) for 9 pm. How SV performed was not mentioned so it likely was under 1.0.

In FN’s SPN edged out SMV in adult demo and total viewers, though both shows may rise or fall in the Finals. Both shows faced serious movie competition this week as “Fast Five” continues to be popular and “Thor” opened last night. And this concerns the SPN two hour back to back finale episodes, “Pirates 4” opens the same day.

In addition I think Travis Yanan is still vacation so there may be only be final “A18-49” available (along with preliminary A18-34) unless someone else with access to the Nielson young adults and young women posts the results. Sometimes TY “catches up” with new episode ratings.

Finals
Edited 5/10/11
Yeah, Travis is back:
Smallville
- 2.071 million viewers
- 1.3/2 HH
- 0.8/3 A18-49
- 0.8/3 A18-34
- 0.6/3 W18-34

Supernatural
- 2.113 million viewers
- 1.3/2 HH
- 1.0/3 A18-49
- 1.1/4 A18-34
- 1.0/4 W18-34

Supernatural rose a little in viewers but more importantly in the demo.

This is first time SPN reached 1.0 (or higher) in A18-49 since episode 6.16 on 3/4/11 - when the show went on its "Spring Hellatus" so this great news for the show, especially when 6.21/6.22 will be pre-empted in the Chicago market (#3) and fans might want to see the opening of "Pirates 4".

Since the A18-49 rose a tenth to 1.0 I would guess that the A18-34 may have risen from 1.0 to a bit higher as well with the W18-34 maybe in the range of 1.0 to 1.4.

Edited 5/10/11
Looks like I was close on both predictions - A18-34 rose from 1.0 to 1.1 and W18-34 settled in at 1.0/4. When A18-34 is higher than W18-34 that typically means more young males tuned into this heavily Cas (Crowley-Dean) centric episode than young females - which is darned ... interesting.

Edited 5/23/11 to add DVR results
Week ending 5/8/11 – includes SMV 10.20/SPN 6.20

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows
#21 SMV rising 38% from 0.8 to 1.1

SPN did not make the top 25 this week which ended at demo rises of 35%. If I had to guess SPN may have rose 20% from 1.0 to 1.2.

SV Season 10 2 hour Series Finale
2.972M avg (A18-49;1.3/5 avg)

The Smallville series finale did very well rising in viewers and demo to over 3M and 1.5/5 in adults and second place in the ratings for the 9:30 -10 period. There’s a reasonable chance it will rise in average viewers to over 3M viewers and 1.4/5 in A18-49 in the finals (if they are posted, including the younger demos - there seems to be a delay again in Travis Yanan finals).

- 3.022 million
- 1.8/3 HH
- 1.3/5 A18-49
- 1.2/5 A18-34

Edited 5/31/11 to add DVR statement
Surprisely, Smallville's Series Finale did not make the top 25 in adult demo increases - the only table that SMV and SPN usually "make". The "table" ended at 33%. Lots of SMV fans expected a much better performance once DVR results were added in but lacking DVR data the series final is second overall in total viewers for the last season to the show's 200th episode 10.04 at 3.188M viewers and the same adult demo of 1.3/5.

SPN's "finale episodes" on 5/20/11 have a slighter higher chance of making the "top 25" since the show was preempted in major markets plus had to compete with a big movie weekend and high school/college commencement activities.

5/20/11
SPN Ep 6.21 2.06M (A18-49;0.8/3)
SPN Ep 6.22 2.21M (A18-49;0.8/3)

:lesigh: These were the poorest A18-49's for the season and the “viewers” at 8 pm are lower than those for 9 pm and that’s rare for new episodes on The CW. Plus the viewer totals are likely inflated because of the preemption in Chicago, the #3 TV market. (Also I read something about Sacramento preemptions)/That’s a reason (because of the Chicago preemption) that I wished that The CW had swapped the SMV series finale date with the SPN date. Or The CW could have shown the SPN finales Thursday and encored the SMV finale on Friday and who cares about preemptions or movie openings affected encores. Water under the bridge ... at least we have our S7.

I also echo what PIFeedback’s Mark Berman says in being gloomy about Nikita’s lackluster performance in the 8 pm slot “sparking interest” in SPN @ 9 pm. SPN’s ability to prove that it’s not “Lead-in” dependent will be put to the test in S7 but all CW shows have lost a % of the average audience every subsequent season and although SPN has lost fewer viewers than the other CW shows I don’t hope for the best. In my view The CW could have made a bolder decision putting either TSC or Ringer at 8 or moving SPN to another night.

Finals
The good and bad news is that SPN wasn’t hurt in the finals, barely loosing viewers.

6.21 2.02 M viewers, A18-49 0.8/3
6.22 2.11 M viewers, A18-49, 0.8/3

To put SPN’s Finale (6.22) in perspective, the finale beat Nikita’s finale in total viewers (1.94M) and A18-49(0.7/2),and was third in total viewers behind the SMV’s Series Final, and TVD (3.02 and 2.86M viewers respectively) and tied 90210 in A18-49 but exceeded in total viewers (1.64M) and soundly beat GG (1.36M, 0.7/2) OTH (1.48M, 0.7/2, and HC’s 1.13M. 0.5/1) finales. So did the final duo of S6 underperform – yes, but not that badly considering the other finales didn’t face preemptions, movie openings, commencements, that the other shows’ finales didn’t have to deal with.

I’m sorry that I don’t have the info for the younger demos – occasionally some sites posts A18-34 – but at least two major TV sites (PIFeedback and TVBTN) primarily get the young demo info from Travis Yanan and the site I found last summer Sitcomsonline.com always crashes my computer now.

Edited 6/7/11 to add DVR results: (The results look squirelly though but very good)
May 16-22 – includes SPN 6.21/6.22

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows (as reported by TV by the numbers - my usual source)

#3 Supernatural rising 44% from 0.9 to 1.3

A couple posters on the TVBTN forum (including me) questioned the "0.9" when this site had previously indicated "no increase in the finals" for SPN, but the fellow who reported the DVR results has not responded.

Bottom line is if we increased to 1.3 when the DVR results were added in SPN matched the demo of SMV's series finale (SMV's demo increase was likely higher but if it wasn't on the "Top 25 list" average "Janes" like me have no way of telling how high (or not) SMV's DVR demo might have increased.)

I thought I’d start keeping track of the ratings of our new 2011 – 2012 Friday running mate “Nikita” so I’m beginning with 1.01 and will be reporting the Summer finals for both Nikita and SPN.

To start I’ll post the results for TVD and Nikita until there’s a trend then drop the TVD results.

Data from TVBTN unless otherwise noted

TVD, Nikita, SPN reruns 5-26/27 2011
TVD 2.01 0.90M (A18-49 0.4/1)
Nikita 1.01 0.95M (A18-49 0.3/1)

Both shows average an A18-34 of 0.2/1 based on Fast Nationals

I watched the “Pilot” of Nikita last Friday - it appears to be a “sequel” to the “La Femme Nikita” TV show – not too bad, but I doubt The CW will capture Peta Wilson/Roy DuPuis’s sizzling chemistry.

Something that amazed me and was unexpected it that there was NO PROMOTION at all for SMV during Nikita and banners near the beginning and the end for “Supernatural” at 9 pm on Fridays and a full promo consisting of scenes from 6.05 and 6.06 seemed meant to show new any SPN viewers or remind viewers that there was something was up with Sam even though Friday’s episode was 6.01 EOMS.

SPN 6.01 1.0 M (A18-49 0.4/2)
(SMV performed a little better with ~ 1.16M, 0.5/2 but SMV 10.01 looked to better episode than SPN 6.01)
