Last rerun week for Summer 2011 Nikita, SPN rerun finals 9/9/2011 Nikita 1.22 1.14M (A18-49, 0.3/1) SPN 6.22 0.84M (A18-49, 0.3/1) For The CW last rerun week of the summer, Nikita received the most viewers, but 90210 had the only 0.4/1 demo for this week and had 0.94M viewers. TVD was tied with 90210 viewers (0.94M) but only had 0.3/1 in demo and SPN trailed 4th in viewers. Let’s hope for very good premiere figures for both shows. Partially because while there is a core audience who will watch SPN no matter what (and there are new fans who have watched SPN on TNT), good lead-in figures (Nikita) never hurt and are supposed to help. Boring end of summer statistics for TVD, Nikita, and SPN: TVD - avg viewers = 0.90M A18-49 = 0.375 Nikita - avg viewers = 0.97M A18-49 not calculated but below SPN demo SPN - avg viewers = 0.92M A18-49 = 0.369 TVD is down 33% from last year in total viewers, while SPN is down barely 15% if the S5 premiere rerun is added that had a TVD lead -in, and a little over 10% if the summer rerun 5.01 is eliminated as an outlier. Reminder in case anyone lives in cave that the new seasons of Nikita and Supernatural begin in approximately 10 days 2 and a half hours East Coast, USA time (September 23, 2011). I can't wait! |

Nikita and Supernatural Sesson premieres 9/23/11 Finals Nikita 1.849 million viewers 1.2/2 HH 0.6/2 A18-49 0.6/2 A18-34 0.7/3 W18-34 Supernatural 2.011 million viewers 1.2/2 HH, 0.8/3 A18-49 0.7/3 A18-34 0.9/3 W18-34 I’m dropping reporting the fast nationals as Travis Yanan says “he/she” is working on a novel as does not have time to post the complete finals (A18-34, W18-34) <<*CORRECTION* TY DID add the young demos for the premieres but I wouldn’t expect this to be a steady practice* >> at this time. TVBTN, Mark Berman’s new site and Sitcomsonline all get their complete finals data from TY. Occasionally we might get a CW press release but with the less than stellar (although comparable to the rest of the CW line up drops) neither Nikita nor SPN got a press release. The good news for SPN is that the total viewers increased a little from 1.950M to 2.011M (and Nikita’s decreased a little from 1.88 to 1.849M) and while “A18-49” remained the same at 0.8 the audience “share” increased by 0.1 vs the FN’s. All 6 CW shows that premiered last week had very substantial drops in viewers and demo (A18-49) for their second. SPN actually “beat” Ringer in total viewers (1.94M) and came within shouting distance of TSC (2.12M) although both shows had 0.1 higher demo at 0.9. But shows that air M-R should perform better in every rating category because Friday is the least watched TV night of week. TVD and TSC also fell drastically in viewers and demo from their premieres (TVD-3.100 M, 1.5/5, TSC - 3.050 M, 1.3/4). So…SPN’s ratings don’t look so bad in comparison to the rest of last week and I practically guarantee that SPN will beat the Gossip Girl premiere in viewers and demo but I’m not certain about Hart of Dixie. On Tuesday TVBTN posts their renew/cancel predictions and I’m willing to bet SPN will still be on safe side. Nikita may as be well since networks allow more leeway on Fridays. ----------------- ETA 1 9/28/11: Something new this year from TVBTN: "Live + 3 day" DVR data, I'm assuming that the site will also report "Live + 7 DVR" day approximately 3 weeks after the episode airs as is normal. (I don't know if TVBTN will start doing this routinely as "L+3" data was rarely available to then in the past AND Nikita/SPN might not always make the cut even if they do): Monday - Friday of premiere week shows ONLY (September 19-23, 2011) Ranked by Live + Same Day to Live + 3 Day Adults 18-49 ratings PERCENTAGE increase Program Name Ind L+3 Rating L+SD Rating L+3 vs. L+SD % Chg L+3 vs. L+SD Chg AMERICA'S Top Model-11 1.1 0.7 57% 0.4 SUPERNATURAL P 1.2 0.8 50% 0.4 SECRET CIRCLE 1.3 0.9 44% 0.4 What this clunky formatting chart indicates is that ANTM, SPN and TSC were #1,2,3; SPN increased in A18-49 50% from 0.8 to 1.2 in just 3 days, that's very good - I've read that networks might start paying more attention to "Live+3 DVR figures" in addition to other sources of revenue for show (DVD and download sales and others) when it comes to renewal decisions. Nikita increased only 33% from 0.6 to 0.8 so that's not so good. TVD was just above Nikita on the chart (also 33%) but I didn't count their position - this chart did not provide the "number" but they were roughly in the upper end of the lower third in adult demo increases. ----------------------------------------- ETA #2 "Live + 7 DVR results" + comments from TVBTN: During the premiere week of the 2011-12 broadcast season (Sept 19-25, 2011), Modern Family and Supernatural topped the rankings for the week's DVR viewing added between the Live+Same Day period (as reported in all our other ratings posts) and the Live + 7 Day measurement periods. ….. Supernatural led the % adults 18-49 ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 63% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings. Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows: Rank Programs Net 18-49 Live+SD (rating) 18-49 Live+7 (rating) Post Airdate 18-49 Rating Absolute Increase From DVR Viewing Post Airdate 18-49 Rating % Increase from DVR Viewing 1 SUPERNATURAL CW 0.8 1.3 0.5 63% 2 AMERICA'S Top Model-11 CW 0.7 1.1 0.4 57% 3 FRINGE FOX 1.5 2.3 0.8 53% 4 Nikita CW 0.6 0.9 0.3 50% 6 Ringer CW 0.9 1.3 0.4 44% 7 SECRET CIRCLE CW 0.9 1.3 0.4 44% 8 90210 CW 0.7 1.0 0.3 43% 11 Vampire Diaries CW 1.2 1.7 0.5 42% ----------------------- My comments: 1. The above data includes the results for the second week of 90210/Ringer, H8R (did not make chart)/ANTM, and TVD/TSC. (H8R was canceled last Thursday). 2. This the first time (I think) SPN has ever topped this particular chart, usually Fringe has since it switched to Fridays unless Fringe airs a rerun and SPN airs an original episode. 3. With 7 day results added SPN reached the same final A18-49 demo as Ringer and TSC for Week 2 of those shows, also with DVR results added (1.3) 4. CW shows are heavily DVR-ed, (or watched in the US because the US is what counts in renewal decisions); CW shows are also watched streamed from CW site (and other sites but there's probably little data) when they are available. I know the CW keeps track of online viewing and it possibly counts in renewal decisions. 5. I wish SPN could keep topping (or close to topping) the L+7's particularly if SPN's results are comparable to HoD, Ringer and TSC when the new scripted show's "L+7's" are added in. |

9/30/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.02 1.73M (A18-49;0.6/2) SPN Ep 7.02 1.80M (A18-49;0.7/2) The only piece of good news is that SPN beat Nikita in total viewers vs the fast nationals where Nikita edged SPN out, but unfortunately there was no uptick in A18-49 for either show. I wish I had better news. In total viewers SPN only “beat” Nikita, GG (but tied demo), 90210 (but had 0.8 demo) H8TR and ANTM (but had 0.8 demo). So less than even moderately good week for SPN. For those fans who are blaming SG for mishandling Castiel and his demise, and boasting about watching Fringe instead, only time will tell, because “former SPN Nielson fans” are NOT watching Fringe (live) instead of SPN. Fringe’s ratings are also in the toilet “this Friday” tumbling 0.3 demo points from the premiere last Friday (dropping from 1.5 to tying the series low in A18-49 [1.2]) and a series in viewers (3.05M). ETA 10/17/11 to add DVR results (Fringe took back to #1 spot pn this chart, SPN was #2) DVR gains for week ending 9/30/11 (Nikita 2.02/SPN 7.02) Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows: Show Net 18-49 L+SD (Rating) 18-49 L+7 (Rating) Post Airdate Increase (Absolute) Post Airdate Increase (%) 1 FRINGE-09/30/2011 FOX 1.2 2.0 0.8 66.67% 2 SUPERNATURAL-09/30/2011 CW 0.7 1.1 0.4 57.14% 3 SECRET CIRCLE-09/29/2011 CW 0.9 1.4 0.5 55.56% ....... 5 90210- 09/27/2011 CW 0.8 1.2 0.4 50.00% 6 AMERICA'S Top Model -11-09/28/2011 CW 0.8 1.2 0.4 50.00% In other DVR news for the week ending 9/30, the Gossip Girl (9/26/11) premiere made the “top 25” at #9 but the Hart of Dixie premiere didn’t. Ringer was #8 and TVD was #21 but TVD started with 1.3 in A18-49 so it’s rise to 1.8 was less % gain than SPN. Nikita and H8R did not make the top 25 list either which ended at 36.11%. In spite of SPN’s position at #2, then the DVR results are added in the only CW shows SPN outperformed “this week” were Gossip Girl and HoD, Nikita and H8R, none of which made the table (and H8R’s been cancelled. (SPN #6 for week ending 9/30 when DVR results added in). BUT per Robert Seidman (TVBTN comment section via the CW): "The CW sees the most growth of any broadcast network again this week in Live + 7 ratings, with a 32% increase in total viewers compared to Live + Same Day, a 36% increase in A18-34, a 37% increase in A18-49 and a 40% increase in W18-34. Both Ringer and The Vampire Diaries gained nearly a million viewers in Live + 7 data this week versus Live + Same Day. The Vampire Diaries also jumped nearly a full rating point in W18-34. Supernatural remains one of the most DVRed shows on broadcast television on a percentage basis, jumping 50% among A18-34 in Live + 7 vs. Live + Same Day ratings this week, the biggest increase on The CW. It has the third biggest percentage increase of any network show among W18-34, with a 58% bump in L+7 vs. L+SD. In total viewers, Ringer sees the biggest percentage increase on The CW this week, with a 40% gain in L+7 vs. L+SD." |

10/07/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.03 1.570M (A18-49; 0.5/2 ) SPN Ep 7.03 1.720M (A18-49; 0.7/2) From Travis Yanan's Blog: younger demo results Nikita – 0.5/2 A18-34, 0.5/2 W18-34 SPN – 0.7/3 A18-34, 0.7/2 W18-34 For week ending 10/7/11 of scripted shows from high to low including viewers and A18-49 it was 1) TVD – 2.63M, 1.2/4; 2) TSC – 1.96M, 0.8/2; 3) HoD 1.75M, 0.8/2; 4) SPN (F) - 1.720M, 0.7/2; 5) GG - 1.34M , 0.7/2; 6) 90210 – 1.29M, 0.7/2; 7) Ringer 1.50M, 0.6/2; 8) Nikita (F) 1.570M, 0.5/2 SPN did pretty well for this week. I believe last year at this time SPN was the #4 scripted show behind TVD, Nikita and SMV. Unless otherwise noted, all data this season comes from TVbythenumbers.com rather than from PIFeedback.com. TSC was # 1 with the same rise as the SPN premiere (0.8-1.3) and Nikita made DVR week “3” at #4 after being absent from the "week 2" chart. All CW shows made the “week 3” chart except (again) GG and HoD which means they had <37% demo increases. |

Excellent information, Fandrea! Thank you posting the article. I'm going to C&P her article on the "CW ratings thread" on the Supernatural board, assuming someone doesn't beat me to it. There's a poster on that thread who defines hypocrisy, creating a cheerleading, "Thank the sponsors (and ensure renewal for S8)" on the CW board, yet on one or more other boards, is among those posters hoping for the ratings to fall so that the show is cancelled (she's a rabid Castiel fan). |

More (good) news that may impact ratings for all CW programming: CW announces NetFliks streaming deal I'm not going to paste the article but this is further proof that The CW recognizes and is even facilitating fan's alternative viewing choices. |

10/14/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.04 1.65M (A18-49;0.5/2 ) SPN Ep 7.04 1.69M (A18-49;0.8/2) Some good news for SPN Finals (and not so great for Nikita) – versus the fast nationals SPN rose from 0.7 in A18-49 to 0.8/2 tying the S7’s premiere demo (while still having very lackluster 'series low' total viewers), while Nikita fell from 0.6 to 0.5. For The CW scripted show week ending 10/14/11, TVD was in first place way out front in viewers and demo (2.89M, 1.4/4); there was a three way tie at 0.8 demo (#2 TSC 1.89M Note – there was an incredible 1M viewer and 0.6 demo difference between the #1 and #2 shows “this week” #3 SPN 1.69M , #4 90210 1.54M); Ringer #5 was alone at 0.7 with 1.71M (just beat SPN in viewers); there was tie at 0.6 (#6 HoD, 1.57M. #7 GG 1.27M) and last at #8 Nikita. So, relatively speaking SPN is still doing “well” for the CW. ETA 10/31/11 to add DVR results: For “Week 4” ending 10/14/11 (includes Nikita 2.04/SPN 7.04) in DVR increases Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows: Rank Shows Net 18-49 L+SD (Rating) 18-49 L+7 (Rating) Post Airdate Increase (Absolute) Post Airdate Increase (%) 1 Nikita CW 0.5 0.8 0.30 60.0% 2 Ringer CW 0.7 1.1 0.40 57.1% Nikita grabbed the #1 position, Ringer #2 and SPN was #25 with an increase of 37.5% from 0.8 to 1.1. With demo increases SPN tied Ringer’s final demo and only TVD (not on chart but had L+SD demo of 1.4/4, still 0.2 demo points higher than TSC with DVR results added) and TSC had higher final demo results. In Week 4, neither GG nor 90210 made the top 25 in % increase though Robert Seidman answered a posters question of whether GG “tied” Nikita’s DVR final demo of 0.8 and he answered yes. |

10/21/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.05 1.690M (A18-49; 0.6/2) SPN Ep 7.05 1.920M (A18-49; 0.8/3) Order for CW scripted shows week starting 10/17/11 (demo and viewer totals): #1TVD 3.03M, 1.4/4; # 2 TSC TSC 2.12M, 0.9/2; #3 SPN 1.920M, 0.8/3 ; #4 Ringer 1.81M, 0.8/2; #5 90210 1.41M, 0.8/2 (3 way tie @ 0.8 with SPN having most viewers); #6, #7, #8 – another 3 way tie at 0.6 with Nikita having the most viewers @ 1.69M, then HoD @ 1.65M, and GG trailing @ 1.16M. SPN Episode 7.05 had the second highest viewers since the S7 premiere and tied the demo/share at 0.8/3 !“Baseball” this week (starting 10/24/11) seems to be “helping new CW episodes” with close to (or exceeding) to season highs (Ringer had reruns) but both Nikita and SPN face the season/series premieres of Chuck and Grimm (Fringe is preempted by baseball) tonight (10/28/11). ETA DVR results 11/8/11 DVR ratings “Week 5” ending 10/21/11 (includes Nikita 2.05/SPN 7.05) Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows: 2 SUPERNATURAL-10/21/2011 CW 0.8 1.2 0.40 50.0% 7 SECRET CIRCLE-10/20/2011 CW 0.9 1.3 0.40 44.4% 14 Ringer-10/18/2011 CW 0.8 1.1 0.30 37.5% GG & Nikita were tied at #19 & 20 – both originally had 0.6 and increased 33.3% to 0.8; ANTM was #23. So Supernatural is in second place for Week 5, came close to TSC and beat Ringer. Personally I feel better any time when SPN ties Ringer or does better when the DVD results are added in. |

10/28/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.06 1.77M (A18-49; 0.6/2 ) SPN Ep 7.06 1.74M (A18-49;0.7/2) Unfortunately the combo of “Game 7 of the World Series” (25.40M "Nielsen viewers", the first “Game 7” in 9 years!) and possibly Nielsen Fans checking out the premiere of Grimm which did (unexpectedly) better than new eps of Fringe and SPN combined (6.56M, 2.1/6) held both Nikita and SPN at their Fast National demos (0.6/2, 0.7/2, respectively). Good news is that Nikita’s demo did not fall against the Chuck's (last season) premiere (3.42, 1.0/3). So Nikita! The World Series “on” all week actually helped with the female skewing CW audiences of new episodes of HoD, ANTM, TVD and TSC (90210 was preempted for a “Ringer Rerun Full Night”.) That is, helped until “Game 7” Friday night which may have affected the two “evenly” M/F shows, Nikita and SPN. So … SPN didn’t rank so well “this” week, in 6 scripted shows SPN ranked 5/6 in total viewers (Nikita had more viewers, SPN had higher demo) and tied GG’s demo but beat it in viewers. I’m betting that at least some Nikita/SPN fans tuned into the baseball game instead. |

11/11/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.08 1.89M (A18-49;0.6/2 ) SPN Ep 7.08 1.85M (A18-49;0.8/2) Younger demos from Travis Yanan: Nikita: 5/2 A18-34, 0.6/2 W18-34 SPN: 0.7/3 A18-34, 0.8/3 W18-34 Yay, both Nikita and SPN retained their adult demos in the finals versus Fast Nationals; I and others were concerned that fans would be watching their HP 7, Part 2 DV/Blue Ray or playing Skyrm (video game) both which came available last Friday rather than watching The CW. “This week’s ranking” of scripted shows (demo/total viewers) is 1) TVD 3.17M, 1.4/4; 2) TSC 2.17M, 0.8/2; 3) SPN 1.85M, 0.8/2 4) 90210 1.55M, 0.8/2; 5) Ringer 1.75M, 0.7/2; 6) Nikita 1.89M, 0.6/2; 7) HoD 1.45M, 0.6/1; 8) GG 1.26M, 0.6/2. On TVBTN Cancel/Renew index & Bubble Watch, Ringer joins GG and Nikita as being bubble shows/toss ups for renewal. ETA DVR results 11/29/11 “Week 8” - Nov 7-Nov 11, 2011 (includes Nikita 2.08/SPN 7.08 S7TFAW) Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows: 6 SECRET CIRCLE-11/10 CW 0.8 1.2 0.40 50.0% (Mid Season Finale) 7 SUPERNATURAL-11/11 CW 0.8 1.2 0.40 50.0% Not in top 5 but SPN tied TSC again each with 50% increase to 1.2 from 0.8. CW Mondays are also adding to their finals with 50% each for GG & HoD from 0.6 to 0.9 at #8 and #9. Ringer was #17 with a 42.9% increase from 0.7 to 1.0. Nikita didn’t make the “top 25” which ended that ended at 38.5% … this DVR category started again at over 70% increases (#1 Fringe @ 72.5%) so Nikita might have had 0.2 demo increase (33%) but that would not be sufficient increase to make “Week 8’s” chart. |

11/18/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.09 1.79M (A18-49; 0.6/2 ) SPN Ep 7.09 1.55M (A18-49; 0.7/2 ) From Travis Yanan: CW Friday young demos: Nikita 0.5/2 A18-34, 0.6/2 W18-34 Supernatural 0.6/2 A18-34, 0.7/2 W18-34 There’s little good to say about this week’s SPN results. Usual CW #1 and #2 shows, TVD and TSC, were preempted to air a movie starring Paul Wesley (Stephen, TVD) but the movie did poorly. SPN occupied 4th place in a 4 way demo tie at a low 0.7 A18-49 but had the lowest viewers - even 90210 beat SPN slightly in viewers and that didn't ever happen last year, maybe not ever. #1 Ringer 1.83M, 0.7/2; #2 HoD 1.62M, 0.7/1; #3 90210 1.59M, 0.7/2; #4) SPN 1.55M, 0.7/2. Then followed a tie at 0.6 demo: #5 Nikita 1.79M, 0.6/2; #6 GG 1.24M, 0.6/2. Fringe also tied their series low in demo (1.1) and had a series low viewers (2.80M) while Grimm held steady. SPN fans are attributing the drop to a combination of the "Becky effect*", the Twilight movie and pre-holiday weekend preparations and travel and this year SPN is one of the most heavily DVR'ed shows so we can hope for healthy gain in the L+7's. Nikita held steady possibly because of the known advantage that earlier shows have over later ones - an extra hour for a Nielsen Viewer to watch the show if they "DVR'd it. * The "Becky effect", or "Bela effect" - guest characters who are the focus of an episode and are considered extremely annoying by many fans - is said to account for any larger than normal drop in the subsequent episode even there's not a hint of them being present. ETA DVR results for “Week 9” Nov 14-18, 2011 (includes Nikita 2.09/SPN 7.09) 4 SUPERNATURAL-11/18 CW 0.7 1.1 0.4 57% 7 Gossip Girl-MON-11/14 CW 0.6 0.9 0.3 50% 17 90210-11/15 CW 0.7 1.0 0.3 43% 18 Hart Of Dixie-11/14 CW 0.7 1.0 0.3 43% 19 Ringer-11/15 CW 0.7 1.0 0.3 43% TVD/TSC already started their winter hellatus and that’s why TSC isn’t present and again Nikita failed to make the top 25 increases in A18-49 |

12/2/11 Finals Nikita: Ep 2.10 1.68M (A18-49; 0.5/2) SPN Ep 7.10 1.89M (A18-49; 0.7/2) Once again – and regrettably – SPN was in third place out of 6 scripted shows last week (TVD and TSC were already on hellatus and will return 1/5/2012 with Nikita/SPN following on 1/6/12). First place in CW scripted shows went to HoD with a series high in demo of 0.9/2 and 1.90M viewers; #2 90210 1.52M, 0.8/2; #3 SPN 1.89M (nice increase in viewers over 7.09), 0.7/2; #4 Ringer 1.60M, 0.6/1; #5 GG 1.32M, 0.6/2; #6 1.68M, 0.5/2. Reruns Nikita 12/9/11 1.32M, 0.3/1 - -> beat TVD rerun in viewers SPN 12/9/11 1.00M, 0.4/1 --> beat TSC in viewers, demo Nikita 12/16/11 1.102M, 0.3/1 --> beat TVD rerun SPN 12/16/11 0.922M, 0.3/1 --> beat TSC rerun The CW was preempted by sports in Chicago (#3 TV Market) and shows always take a hit from a preemption. Unfortunately this is "it" for both shows reruns until new episodes return on Jan 6, 2012 (three weeks from this past Friday) as both shows will be preempted (again) to show the CW Holiday specials and for a The Secret Circle Marathon. |
