2012 Winter Premieres

1/6/12 Finals

Nikita: Ep 2.11 1.56M (A18-49; 0.6/2)
SPN Ep 7.11 1.82M (A18-49; 0.8/2)

Both SPN and Nikita were up 0.1 demo point from their fall mid-season finales so that’s good news. TVD was also “up” 0.1 while TSC stayed the same.

There were four shows that returned this week (demo then viewers): 1) TVD - 3.32M, 1.5/4; 2)TSC - 2.05M, 0.8/2; 3) SPN – 1.82M, 0.8/2 (Tied TSC in demo!); 4) Nikita – 1.56M, 0.6/2.

ETA #1: Another set of "L+3 day" DVR data from TVBTN.

I just saw this and don't know if it was a slow news day for either The CW (the CW/CBS/ShowTime Winter TCA's kick off tonight with a cocktail party - Robert Singer will be attending as well as Execs from all other CW shows, and the CW panel is tomorrow and JP will attend as well as other males from CW shows) or TVBTN because the site hasn't posted - yet - DVR results for TVD/TSC.

Here's what Robert Seidman says “At least within three days of airing, Friday's Supernatural had much more DVR viewing than Nikita, both in absolute and percentage terms. Supernatural rose from a Live+Same Day adults 18-49 rating 0f 0.8 to a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. With three days of DVR viewing, Nikita rose from a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating to a 0.7.”

SPN did not repeat it's 50% gain in demo (rose 0.4 to 1.2 A18-49) that it had in the premiere but Nikita did poorly. For the premiere SPN did gain another 0.1 to have an A18-49 of 1.3 when the "7 days" were added so hopefully SPN will have a similar gain and top off at 50%.

ETA #2 1/24/12 Full DVR Results:

DVR results including TVD/TSC/Nikita/SPN mid-season premieres – week starting 1/2/12 thru 1/6/12

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

4 SUPERNATURAL-01/06 CW 0.80 1.20 0.40 50.0%

12 SECRET CIRCLE-01/05 CW 0.80 1.10 0.30 37.5%

22 Vampire Diaries-01/05 CW 1.50 1.90 0.40 26.7%

Nikita did not “make” the top 25. So few TV shows aired new episodes “this week” that TVD made the chart as this chart stopped atypically “low” for this TV season. The chart ended at 23.7% and if Nikita had gained “0.2” in Adults that would be 33 % and it would have made this chart. As TVD has always started with the highest adult demo in “L+ SD” finals I bet 20-30% demo increases in the “L+7 Days” is a typical gain for TVD.

This other piece of “great news” is for the first time SPN surpassed TSC in the “7 days”. Just eyeballing the two shows TSC typically ends up “0.2” average above SPN’s “adults” though I have in my notes that SPN “tied” TSC at least once. Ringer “7 days” – again just eyeballing the DVR data SPN is very close to on par with the show or slightly “better”. To date, SPN has never dropped below “1.1” in adults when DVR results are added in. Will our “good luck” end when the DVR results are out next week for 7.12 – I hope not especially since the episode received good to great reviews from the media, however, the 0.6 the episode received in the “overnights” was a little “scary”.

1/13/12 Finals

Nikita: Ep 2.12 1.49M (A18-49; 0.5/2)
SPN Ep 7.12 1.55M (A18-49; 0.7/2)

SPN just squeaked out an 0.7 in A18-49 after getting an 0.6 in the preliminary results, the first this season but may not be the last. Ep 7.12 (TAT) tied with the previous season low (demo, viewers) with 7.09 (HTWFAIP) Nikita remained at 0.5 with a lowest viewers to date in the series.

To be edited/ranked when I pull together the last two weeks averages for TVD/TSC and the season premiere of OTH. For the next two weeks SPN will rerun 7.03 (1/20/12) and 7.04 (1/27/12 while Nikita will be preempted 1/20/12 to encore "Remodeled" and on 1/27/12 will rerun 2.12 (the last original episode to date).

ETA DVR results 1/30/12 for Nikita 2.12/SPN 7.12:

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

4 SUPERNATURAL-01/13 CW 0.7 1.1 0.4 57%

7 Vampire Diaries-01/12 CW 1.2 1.8 0.6 50%

11 SECRET CIRCLE-01/12 CW 0.8 1.2 0.4 50%

20 Nikita-01/13 CW 0.5 0.7 0.2 40%

OTH had its Final Season premiere on Monday, Jan 11, 2012; it started at 0.9 in A18-49 but it would have to have gained 0.4 demo points to make this chart – it stopped at 35% this period and an 0.3 gain would make the “Final Result” only 33.3%.

I was hoping SPN would gain 0.5 to end up at 1.2 and tie TSC again but at least the show maintained 1.1 total for another week.

Reruns 1-20-12

Of Friday shows, only SPN aired a rerun this week, 7.03, with Final Results of 0.96M, 0.4/1. The show actually rose 0.1 in "Adults" versus the preliminaries. This Friday, 1/27/12, SPN is scheduled to rerun 7.04, and Nikita (for some reason) 2.12. If Nikita airs another episode I will note it. On Friday, 1/20/12, Nikita was preempted to re-encore "Remodeled" which oddly scored higher than the premiere (the demo was 0.3/1 though).

The "week" ending Friday, 1/20/12, 4 of 8 scripted shows aired new episodes and 2 shows had their "Winter Premieres", GG and 90210. The rankings for this week are dismal with the two top performing shows, TVD and TSC seeing series lows in demo and for TSC a series low in total viewers. (Demo then viewers): 1) TVD - 2.71M, 1.1/3; 2)TSC - 1.63M, 0.7/2; 3) GG (first time show beat 90210 in viewers, tied demo) -1.29M, 0.6/2; 4) 90210 - 1.25M, 0.6/2

2/3/12 Finals

Nikita: Ep 2.13 1.45M (A18-49; 0.5/2)
SPN Ep 7.13 1.72M (A18-49; 0.8/2)

Last CW broadcast “week” (Jan 30 – February 3, 2012) was the first week of the new year that The CW all shows aired new episodes and the outstanding news is that SPN ranked #2 after TVD! :rah:

The ranks were (Demo then Viewers): 1) TVD – 2.74M, 1.2/3; #2) SPN -1.72M, 0.8/2 ; #3) TSC 1.74M, 0.7/2; 4) OTH – 1.52M, 0.7/2; #5) GG – 1.39M, 0.7/2; #6) 90210 – 1.38M, 0.7/2; #7) HoD 1.54M, 0.6/1; #8) Ringer – 1.40M, 0.6/1; #9)Nikita - 1.45M, 0.5/2; (#10 Remodeled - 0.69M, 0.3/1 – but I don’t normally include CW reality shows).

I'm reasonably certain that more 0.7's and 0.5/0.6's (or "scares") will be in the future for this season but last Friday's episode was not one of them. The prelims/Fast Nationals had SPN at 0.7 in A18-49 but this was the fourth time (as I count) that the show has gained a point in the final demo, rising from 0.7 to 0.8.

ETA DVR results 2/21/12

Another good week for SPN!

Week ending 2/5/12 includes Nikita 2.13/SPN 7.13 TSG

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

3 Hart Of Dixie-01/30 CW 0.60 1.00 0.40 66.7%
6 Vampire Diaries-02/02CW 1.20 1.80 0.60 50.0%

7 SUPERNATURAL-02/03 CW 0.80 1.20 0.40 50.0%

9 Ringer-01/31CW 0.60 0.90 0.30 50.0%

17 90210-01/31 CW 0.70 1.00 0.30 42.9%
18 One Tree Hill-02/01 CW 0.70 1.00 0.30 42.9%
19 SECRET CIRCLE-02/02 CW 0.70 1.00 0.30 42.9%

21 Nikita-02/03 CW 0.50 0.70 0.20 40.0%

Note 1: GG did not make the top 25 for this period which ended at 37.5%; the max increase GG could have is 0.2 (28.6%) and in the Final L+SD’s GG was in a 4-way demo-with with 90210/OTH & TSC at 0.7.

Note 2: Even with “L+7’s” SPN was the CW’s #2 show in demo for this period beating Ringer and TSC.

Nikita: Ep 2.14 1.45M (A18-49; 0.5/2)
SPN Ep 7.14 1.88M (A18-49; 0.8/2)

:rah SPN again rose in the finals from 0.7 to 0.8 in A18-49! :508:

SPN claims the #2 position for the second week in a row narrowly edging out TSC by 60,000 viewers (0.06M). Ranks for The CW “week ending 2/10” were 1)TVD 3.08M, 1.3/4; 2) SPN 1.88M, 0.8/2; 3)TSC 1.82M, 0.8/2; 4) OTH 1.35M, 0.7/2; 5) 90210 1.34M, 0.7/2; 6) HoD 1.52M, 0.6/1; 7) GG 1.25M, 0.6/2; 8) Nikita 1.45M, 0.5/2; 9) Ringer 1.18M, 0.5/1

ETA DVR results 2/27/12:

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

11 Gossip Girl-MON- 02/06/2012 0.60 0.90 0.3 50%
12 Hart Of Dixie- 02/06/2012 0.60 0.90 0.3 50%
13 SUPERNATURAL- 02/10/2012 0.80 1.20 0.4 50%

20 90210-02/07/2012 0.70 1.00 0.3 43%

“Top 25” Chart ended at 40% “this week”. Ringer (0.5), Nikita (0.5), OTH (0.7),
TVD (1.3) and TSC (0.8 – same as SPN) did not make the chart “this week”.

For TSC for example, it could have received 0.3 demo boost (37.5%) and not made this chart. Nikita and Ringer may have received a 0.2 demo boost – exactly 40% - and not make this chart for some other reason, like the 4 other shows that also gained “40%” in A18-49 and made the chart all had substantially higher starting demos.

For shows with the same demo increases – like GG, HoD and SPN “tied” at 50% - the chart puts the shows in alphabetical order. Perhaps this is simply the case with Nikita and Ringer, assuming both received 40% as well, they are “latter” in alphabetical order and would be no higher than #26 and #27 , assuming no other shows were “alphabetically” between “Law and Order. SVU” and Nikita/Ringer.

2/17/12 Finals

Nikita: Ep 2.15 1.51M (A18-49; 0.5/2)
SPN Ep 7.15 1.74M (A18-49; 0.8/2)

Squee! :278 For the third week in a row SPN is The CW’s #2 show. :rah

The ranks for the week ending 2/17/12 (demo then viewers) is 1)TVD 2.900M, 1.4/4; 2) SPN 1.74M, 0.8/2; 3) OTH 1.40M. 0.8/2 (beat TSC); 4) TSC 1.710M, 0.7/2; );5) HoD 1.64M, 0.6/1; 6) Nikita 1.51M, 0.5/2; 7) GG 1.13M, 0.5.1; ; 8) Ringer 1.100M, 8) 0.4/1( new series low). Nikita beat both GG (in viewers) and Ringer “this week” . (90210 is on already hiatus until March sometime)

I am continuously "queasy" that the "#2" show is very significantly lower demo -wise than TVD and Robert Seidman, again an SPN fan himself, has put SPN "on the bubble" with all scripted shows except Ringer and HoD ("likely cancellation") because of that extreme demo difference but he admits that SPN is reasonably certain to be renewed. Of course he admits his chart this post winter CW season likely doesn't reflect the CW reality at all and Bill Gorman's Renew/Cancel index is far more likely what The CW could do except for low performing, cash cows like GG and neither of them can predict what The CW will do.

This week (Feb 20, 2012) TVD/TSC/Nikita/SPN start on hiatus until March 15 & 16 but SPN is currently scheduled to air reruns in place of the three TSC reruns. I will be reporting all rerun data for both SPN and Nikita as usual.

ETA 3/6/12 DVR results for week ending 2/17/12 – includes Nikita 2.15/SPN 7.15
Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

7 Gossip Girl-MON-02/13CW 0.50 0.80 0.30 60.0%

14 SUPERNATURAL-02/17 CW 0.80 1.20 0.40 50.0%
15 Hart Of Dixie-02/13 CW 0.60 0.90 0.30 50.0%

TVD, TSC OTH and Nikita did not make the chart “this week” and these shows had original final demos of 1,4, 0.7, 0.8, 0.5 final L+SD demos, respectively. "This week" the chart ended at 42.9%.

Yay ... another great result from DVR viewing.

Reruns

3/8/12
SPN: 7.15 0.83M, 0.3/1 (TVD got only 1.0M, 0.4/1 this Thursday so its repeat was also down)

3/9/12
Nikita 2.11 1.15M, 0.3/1
SPN: 7.10 1.16M, 0.4/1

New episodes of all shows except GG and HoD air this week, although Nikita and SPN will be up baseball on CBS, and for the rest of the spring we can likely expect lower overall ratings due to sports and pre-emptions of some CW networks for sport events. Last year SPN (and SMV) aired 5 new episodes from 2/4/11 to 3/4/11 and then took a longer, single hiatus, and returned on 4/15/11 and lost a full average demo point ~ 1.0 to just over 0.9 with the finale episodes only 0.8. This season the show is taking a shorter spring hiatus though the show is in the early blush of the baseball season and the finals of the college basketball season.

Nikita: Ep 2.16 1.51M (A18-49; 0.4/2)
SPN Ep 7.16 1.73M (A18-49; 0.7/2)

The “Spring Fall” has begun :(. (I say that because SPN's last three "winter episodes" were all adjusted up to 0.8 from 0.7, this episode had 0.7 in the prelim and stayed there in the Finals).

The scripted show ranks this week were: (Demo then viewers): 1)TVD 2.64M, 1.2/4 (tie series low demo); 2) (Final Season) OTH 1.52M, 0.8/2;
3) SPN 1.73M, 0.7/2; 4) TSC 1.62M, 0.7/2 (TSC and SPN tied demo but SPN had more viewers); 5) 90210 1.16M, 0.6/2; 6) Nikita 1.51M, 0.4/2 :boo:; 7) Ringer 1.11M, 0.4/1 .

Nikita: Ep 2.17 1.460M (A18-49; 0.5/2)
SPN Ep 7.17 1.630M (A18-49; 0.6/2)

UGGGH!!! SPN did terrible this week although it may be our new normal.

Ranks for this week (Demo then viewers) were; 1)TVD 2.69M, 1.3/4; 2) OTH 1.50M, 0.8/2; 3) TSC 1.72M, 0.7/2; 4) 90210 1.25M, 0.7/2; 5) SPN 1.63M, 0.6/2 :waaa ; 6) Nikita 1.46M, 0.5/2; 7) Ringer 1.16M, 0.5/1. GG and HoD are still on hiatus. It’s a small comfort that Fringe also sunk to its series low (0.9).

ETA 4/9/12 DVR Results:

For week ending 3/23/12 (Nikita 2.17/SPN 7.17)

Largest 18-49 Demo Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:
(Only listing scripted CW shows, SPN was #3 demo increase but only achieved 1.0 in A18-49 and only TVD had over 1.0 in demo. It's possible that only TVD will be "higher" than 1.0 demo for the rest of this season.

SPN 0.60 1.00 0.40 66.7%
TSC 0.70 1.00 0.30 42.9%
Nikita 0.50 0.70 0.20 40%
Ringer 0.50 0.70 0.20 40%
TVD 1.30 1.80 0.50 38.1%

For comparison Fringe was #1 and had a 100% increase from 0.9 to 1.8 (I've never seen an increase > 100%.) Fringe was also against the same competition as SPN and did a bit better even though Fringe always is heavily DVR'd.

Nikita: Ep 2.18 1.32M (A18-49; 0.4/1)
SPN Ep 7.18 1.78M (A18-49; 0.7/2)

Thank goodness SPN was “up” from last week’s series low and relatively speaking SPN did not perform to shabby in the round up for last week. Poor Nikita’s ratings are dismal and really disheartening (for those who follow the show) IMO was the best episode since it returned in January.

The ranks for scripted shows for week ending 3/30/12 were (demo, then viewers): 1) TVD 2.44M, 1.2/4; 3 way tie at 0.7 with 2) SPN 1.78M, 0.7/2; 3) OTH 1.34M, 0.7/2; 4) 90210 1.27M, 0.7/2; 5) TSC 1.33M, 0.6/2 series low; 6) Ringer 1.11M, 0.5/1; 7) Nikita 1.32M, 0.4/1.

GG and HoD were on hiatus. GG returns tonight (4/2) and HoD next Monday (4/9). TVD/TSC/Nikita/SPN go on hiatus and return 4/19 and 4/20/12.

ETA 4/16/12 DVR results for week of 3/26-3/30/12 (includes Nikita 2.18/SPN 7.18 Party on, Garth):

10 SPN 0.7 1.1 57%
12 TSC 0.6 0.9 50%
17 TVD 1.2 1.7 42%

:rah SPN bounced back up to 1.1 in demo! Crossing my fingers that the next few episodes at least do as well :)

SPN's rerun didn't perform very well this week - SUDP was better the first time but is episode that doesn't replay well- and Nikita "beat SPN" in viewers (tied demo) but more disturbing is I've seen very few SPN promos (and Nikita promos) except in the TVD/TSC/Nikita/SPN reruns. I hope The CW ramps up the SPN promos (Nikita may not be renewed).
