Finals 1/23/13

Arrow: 1.11, 3.14M, 1.1/3
SPN: 8.11 2.01M, 0.9/2

The Arrow-SPN pairing remains steady as rock :) SPN 8.11 received the third "0.9" in A18-49 in a row, so I presume that means that controversial, angsty episodes like 8.09 and 8.10 don't necessarily fare any worse or better in "Nielsen-viewer land" than lighter, "fun" episodes like 8.11.

For the week ending 1/20/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) TVD 2.71M, 1.3/4; 2) Arrow 3.06M, 1.1/3; 3) SPN 1.99M, 0.9.2; 4)B&TB 1.79M, 0.7/2 5)HoD 1.45M. 0.6/2; 6) Nikita 1.53, 0.5/2; 7) TCD 1.27M, 0.5/1 8)EO 1.36M, 0.4/1; 9) 90210 0.79M, 0.4/1

ETA DVR results for week ending 1/27/13 (includes Arrow 1.11/SPN 8.11 LATRG):

Largest 18-49 Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows

SPN (0.9 to 1.4 for a 56% increase), TVD, HoD, 90210, EO, TCD - no Arrow, B&TB or Nikita;"This" week's chart ended at 39% Adult demo increase.

Finals 1/30/13

Arrow: 1.12, 2.97M, 0.9/3 - - > series low viewers and demo
SPN: 8.12 2.12M, 0.9/2

Arrow didn't perform nearly as well this week; it tied SPN's demo but had more viewers and I believe this is the narrowest the "total viewers" gap has been.

For the CW week ending 2/1/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) TVD 2.56M, 1.3/4 ; 2) Arrow 2.97M, 0.9/3; 3) SPN 2.12M, 0.9.2 ;4) B&TB 1.72M, 0.7/2; 5) TCD 1.38M, 0.5/2; 6) HoD 1.32M, 0.5/2; 7) EO 1.33M, 0.4/; 8) Nikita 1.23M, 0.4/1; 9) 90210 0.78M, 0.4/1

ETA DVR results for week ending 2/3/13 (includes Arrow 1.12/SPN 8.12 ATGB):

Largest 18-49 Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

HoD, #1 at 80%, Arrow (0.9 - 1.4 56%), Nikita, TVD, 90210, SPN (0.9 to 1.3 44%) TCD. B&TB and EOMD were not on this chart that ended at 38% "this" week.

Finals 2/6/13

Arrow: 1.13, 2.96M, 1.0/3
SPN: 8.13 2.29M, 1.0/3

:rah SPN gains a demo point in finals! SPN again matches Arrow's demo separated only by Arrow's greater viewers but this time it's a match at 1.0 rather than a solid (for SPN in S8) 0.9. :cool2:

For the week ending 2/10/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) TVD 2.50M, 1.1/3 ; 2) Arrow 2.96M, 1.0/3; 3) SPN 2.29M,1.0/3; 4)TCD 1.38M, 0.7/2; 5) B&TB 1.48M,0.6/1 ; 6) HoD 1.44M, 0.6/2; 7) Nikita 1.34M, 0.5/2; 8) EOMD 1.50M, 0.4/1 - series finale; 9) 90210 0.78M, 0.4/1

Finals 2/13/13

Arrow: 1.14,3.29M, 1.1/3
SPN: 8.14 2.41M, 1.0/3

:508: Arrow up in demo and viewers, SPN 8.14 T&E gets highest viewers since 8.02 WUTM! Lots of positive reviews for this ep from major TV (non SPN Fan -specific ) sites.

:woohoo!
For the first time SPN tied TVD in demo and beat it in viewers (course it won't last - yesterday was Valentine's day and shows with romance-driven storylines drop was more than the average 6% as reported by TVBTN. Still it feels GOOOODDDD!

Only 6 shows aired new episodes this week. Tuesdays lineup was deferred because of combination of State of the Union address and because Cult will premiere this Tuesday, Feb 19, 2013. The Carrie Diaries will probably air all 13 S1 episodes with minimal or no break and then will be replaced in its timeslot by S2 of the fun reality show, Oh Sit! on April 15, 2013. Unlike Ringer, which aired it's series finale in April 2012, this faster paced run-though schedule does not mean TCD is definitely not getting a S2 renewal order - that's still "TBD" - rather it's likely consistent with Mark Pedowitz's llast year's stated goal of reducing reruns and providing "fresh" programming.

For the week ending 2/17/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) Arrow 3.29M, 1.1/3; 2) SPN 2.41M, 1.0/3(second highest viewer numbers of S8) :rah ;3) TVD 2.31M, 1.0/3; 4) B&TB 1.40M,0.5/1; 5) TCD 1.20M, 0.5/2; 6) 90210 0.66M, 0.3/1 (not a typo; a new ep of 90210 received well under 1M viewers and a 0.3 in A18-49)

ETA DVR results for week ending 2/17/13 (includes Arrow 1.14/SPN 8.14 T&E):

Largest 18-49 Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows:

TVD (1.0 to 1.8, 80%), 90210 ending this season, SPN (1.0 to 1.5, 50%):rah were the only CW shows to make "this" week's chart that ended at 42%. (Recall only 6 shows aired new episodes "this" week though). If Arrow had increased by 0.5, that would have been 45%, so the most Arrow could have increased would be 0.4 (1.1 - 1.5, demo tie with SPN's L+7 results. )

Finals 2/20/13

Arrow: 1.15 3.15M, 0.9/3
SPN: 8.15 2.10M, 0.9/2

Arrow and SPN tied in demo for the third time since the shows came back from winter hellatus. Yes, SPN is down to a more typical 0.9 this week but Arrow is also down 0.2, in fact many veteran Network shows were down in ratings last night.

The extreme Dean fans who are furious that Dean didn't get to do the trials are claiming that's the reason for the ratings drop rather than looking first at Arrow [doing so poorly, too (Arrow 1.15 tied it's series low demo - that SPN managed a 0.9, too, looks good) and that SPN 8.15 was a subpar MOTW episode at best that is getting little positive media attention unlike the very good reviews by the same media writers as 8.14 did.

For the week ending 2/22/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) TVD 2.91M, 1.3/4 ; 2) Arrow 3.15M, 0.9/3; 3) SPN 2.10M, 0.9.2; 4) B&TB 1.52M, 0.5/1; 5) HoD 1.37M, 0.5/2; 6) TCD 1.02M, 0.4/1; 7) Nikita 1.24M, 0.3/1; 8) Cult Premiere 0.86M, 0.3/1; 9) 90210 0.55M, 0.2/1

Finals 2/27/13

Arrow: 1.16, 3.17 M, 1.0/3
SPN: 8.16 2.13M, 0.9/2

Arrow was up 0.1 in demo but I'ma little disappointed that SPN didn't increase also at least in viewers.

In other news The CW will move Cult to Friday after Nikita and announced today the current season (S5) will be the last for the poorly performing 90210. Arrow and SPN will return on March 20, 2013 (three weeks). Next Wednesday 3/6 SPN will rerun 8.07 ALSOK and on 3/13, 8.08 HH. For those fans following the reruns on TNT per TVGuide.com, Season 7 will start airing the first set of reruns (likely only 16 episodes or so for the first few "cycles" like S5 & 6) on Tuesday, March 12 at 9 am ET.

For the week ending 3/1/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) Arrow 3.17M, 1.0/3; 2) SPN 2.13M, 0.9.2; 3) HoD 1.38M, 0.6/2; 4) TCD 1.00M, 0.4/1; 5) Nikita 1.01M,0.3/1; 6) Cult 0.88M, 0.3/1; 7) 90210 0.58M, 0.3/1

TVD and B&TB were reruns this week so Arrow and SPN were guaranteed the first two spots again.

ETA DVR results for week ending 3/1/13 (includes Arrow 1.16/SPN 8.16 (RTT):

Largest 18-49 Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows.

HoD (0.6 to 1.0, 67%), 90210, SPN (0.9 to 1.4, 56% inc), and TCD made the chart "this week" that ended at 40%. Arrow did not, nor did Nikita and Cult. If Arrow (orig demo = 1.0) had gained 0.4 and "tied" SPN after DVR gains were added in, (40% inc) it would have made the chart. Then again, it might have gained sufficient demo increase to be rounded to 0.4 but other "top 25" shows with rounding were closer to 40% gained.

CW week of 3/4-3/8/2013

For the ratings round-up "last CW Week" I thought I'd do something just for fun since 4/9 shows were on hiatus "last week" (Arrow/SPN, TVD/B&TB) to demonstrate weak most of shows that aired new episodes are. I did the weekly ranks as usual (demo, then viewers) and added tags as NEW or RERUN.

Here goes: 1) NEW HoD 1.50M, 0.6/2; 2) RERUN Arrow 1.77M, 0.4/1; 3) NEW TCD 1.10M, 0.4/1; 4) RERUN SPN 1.08M, 0.4/1; 5) RERUN TVD 0.96M, 0.4/1; 6) NEW Nikita 1.37M, 0.3/1; 7) & 8) RERUNS (2) B&TB 0.76M average; 0.3/1; 9)NEW Cult 0.68M, 0.2/1.

Except for the new HoD episode, 3 reruns - Arrow, SPN, TVD - matched the demo (0.4/1) of what is supposed to be The CW's #2 New EPISODE "this week", TCD, and B&TB's reruns- also a true "bubble show" - matched a NEW Nikita demo, but Nikita's on Fridays and is in third season so it will likely be renewed, while either or both TCD and B&TB are likely to be cancelled.

CW week of 3-11 to 3-15/2013

Another mixed week of new episodes and reruns. Same format as "last week" (demo then viewers, tagged if NEW or RERUN)

1) NEW TVD 2.41M, 1.1/4; 2) NEW B&TB 1.43M, 0.5/1; 3) RERUN Arrow 1.59M, 0.4/2; 4) RERUN SPN 1.32M, 0.4/1; 5) NEW Nikita 1.21M, 0.4/2; 6)NEW TCD 1.03M, 0.4/1; 6) NEW Cult 0.72M, 0.2 /1; 7) NEW 90210 0.67M, 0.2/1; 8) and 9) HoD and B&TB RERUNs both 0.2/1

"This week" (3/18 to 3/22/2013) since Arrow and SPN are new I'll return to the usual format and just state which shows will reruns or Specials (a Justin Timberlake special airs tonight at 8/7 C and repeats at 8/7 C Friday in Nikita's timeslot).

Finals 3/20/13

Arrow: 1.17 3.02M, 1.0/3
SPN: 8.17 2.16M, 1.0/3

:cool2: Arrow matched its last new episode's demo but SPN is up 0.1 to 1.0 (also matching Arrow's demo for the fourth time :rah), again matching its S8 highest demo. No DST curse for SPN!

For the week ending 3/22/13 the ranks (demo then viewers) were 1) TVD 2.65M, 1.3/4; 2) Arrow 3.02M, 1.0/3; 3) SPN 2.16M, 1.0/3; 4)B&TB 1.72M, 0.6/2;5) TCD 0.99M, 0.4/1; 6) Cult 0.73M, 0.2/1

90210 and Nikita didn't air new eps "this week" and the rest of the week was a "special" on Tuesday and repeats.

ETA: DVR results for week ending 3/22/13 (includes Arrow 1.17/SPN 8.17 GBS) :

The only CW shows that made this chart were TCD, Cult and TVD. This chart ended at 43% so both Arrow and SPN could have added 0.4 (40% increase) and not made the cut off. Too bad SPN was on a roll in DVR increases.

Finals 3/27/13

Arrow: 1.18 2.65M, 0.9/3
SPN: 8.18 2.23M, 1.0/3

:facepalm The Nielson audience loved F&G :533 . SPN actually beat Arrow for the first time in demo by 0.1 and this is Arrow-SPN's most narrow viewer gap and is the series low but Arrow is still doing very well by CW standards.

For the week ending March 29, 2013 the ranks were (demo then viewers) 1) TVD 2.46M, 1.2/4; 2) SPN 2.23M, 1.0/3 :rah 3) Arrow 2.65M, 0.9/3; 4) B&TB 1.50M, 0.6/2; 5) Nikita 1.22M,0.4/1; 6) TCD 0.83M, 0.4/1; 7) Cult 0.59M, 0.1/0 - you read that right :(

90210 and HoD are still on hiatus. HoD returns 4/9/13 .

ETA: DVR results for week ending 3/29/13 (includes Arrow 1.18/SPN 8.18 F&G)

Cult (Cancelled), Arrow (0.9 to 1.4, 56%), TVD, SPN (1.0 to 1.4, 40%) made this chart which ended at 38%. No TCD, B&TB or Nikita "this week". 90210 and HoD were on hiatus.

Finals 4/3/13
Arrow: 1.19 2.92M, 0.9/3
SPN: 8.19 1.90M, 0.8/2

Needless to say SPN did not perform well this week :( however I read that there were several major baseball preemptions last Wednesday.

Only 5 shows aired new eps last week so Arrow and SPN again took the first two positions. For the week ending 4/5/2013 the ranks were (demo then viewers): 1) Arrow 2.92M, 0.9/3; 2)SPN 1.90M, 0.8/2; 3) Nikita 1.23M, 0.3/1; 4) TCD 0.87M, 0.3/1; 5) Cult 0.62M, 0.2/1

Arrow and SPN return with new eps on 4/24/13. For SPN the scheduled reruns are 4/10 8.10 T&F and 4/17 8.11 LATRG

ETA: DVR results for week ending 4/5/13 (includes Arrow 1.19/SPN 8.19 F&G)

TCD, Nikita, SPN (0.8 to 1.2, 50%), Arrow (0.9 -1.3, 44%)

Not surprised SPN made this chart, but disappointed that the show didn't gain more. :lesigh:

Finals 4/24/13

Arrow: 1.20 3.10M, 1.0/3
SPN: 8.20 2.38M, 1.0/3

:rah Arrow :rah :rah SPN!

CW Press release based on non-adjusted prelims (both shows received 1.0's in demo and SPN had 2.42M viewers, second highest viewer total) (after Final adjustments 8.20 finished #3 in viewers but the episode with the highest viewer total, 8.02 , @ 2.51M had only 0.9 demo)

"Last night's ARROW was up versus its last original episode (on 4/3/13) across the board, +4% in total viewers (3.05M), with its most watched episode since 2/27, +14% in A18-34 (0.8/3), +11% in A18-49 (1.0/3) and +50% in M18-34 (0.9/3).

SUPERNATURAL had a big night, with the series' second most watched episode of the season (2.42M, best since week two on 10/10/12) and its best W18-34 rating (1.1/3) in two years (since 4/29/11).
SPN was also up 25% versus its last original episode in A18-49 (1.0/3) and 14% in M18-34 (0.8/3).

It was the CW's best Wednesday night since 2/13 in both total viewers (2.74M) and among A18-34 (0.9/3), and its best Wednesday in W18-34 since 11/14/12"
.

My conclusion concerning SPN is that young female "Nielson" viewers (18-34) love Krissy :533 and Charlie more than the "online annoyance" with both characters would indicate. Yes, Dean dressing up in military scientist garb could have been an equal draw but IIRC last season's RT -penned, Dean's yummy dress-up in 40's clothing episode TAT was another prelim at 0.6 that adjusted up in the finals to 0.7.

----------------------------------- :)

WooHoo! Again Arrow and SPN tied TVD's final demo of 1.0 and both had more viewers. The ranks for the week ending 4/27/13 (demo then viewers) are 1) Arrow 3.10M, 1.0/3; 2) SPN 2.38M, 1.0/3; 3) TVD 2.24M,1.0/3; 4) B&TB (renewed as of 4/26) 1.24M, 0.5/1; 5) HoD (renewed as of 4/26) 1.10M, 0.4/1; 6) Nikita 0.95M, 0.3/1;7) Oh Sit! 0.86M, 0.3/1; 8) 90210 0.49M, 0.3/1

The Originals was also picked up to series on 4/26/13. No word yet on either Nikita or TCD (or ANTM currently scheduled to air this summer) ; my guess is that TCD will be cancelled and Nikita renewed for an unknown number of episodes. Without TCD or Nikita The CW will have 6 definite for Fall 2013 + ANTM for late Summer 2013 to Fall for a total 7 shows leaving 3 firm slots for new their Fall pilots (assuming 13 orders as usual.

This just in from TVBTN: Reruns of SPN will replace encores of Oh Sit! on Fridays. While I'm grateful I just hope reruns on Friday are not any sign that The CW will be moving SPN to Fridays in S9 (10?) in the Fall  .

ETA: DVR results for week ending 4/26/13 (includes Arrow 1.20/SPN 8.20 PMF)

HoD, 90210,TVD, B&TB, Arrow (1.0 to 1.5, 50%). :pbbt: Unfortunately no SPN this week. Chart ended at 40%, but it's possible that SPN gained just under or exactly 0.4 demo increase, too, but was edged out by Revolution (last entry @ 40% )because it had a higher initial demo - I have no idea what determines the criteria for ties for the last entry in the top 25.

Finals 5/1/13

Arrow: 1.21 2.89M, 0.9/3
SPN: 8.21 2.07M, 0.9/3

:rah Another strong showing from the pair and another demo tie. Yes, both shows are down 10% from last week but per TVBTN some of Arrow's and SPN's competitors hits series lows last night. I don't know about the rest of the US but where I live in the "Mid-Atlantic" the weather was just gorgeous.

The ranks for the week ending 5/3/13 (demo then viewers) are 1) TVD 2.17M,1.0/3; 2) Arrow 2.89M, 0.9/3; 3) SPN 2.07M, 0.9/3; 4)B&TB 1.23M, 0.5/1; 5) HoD 1.20M, 0.5/2; 6) Oh Sit! 0.73M, 0.3/1;7) 90210 055M, 0.3/1; 8) Nikita 1.03M, 0.2/1 (ugh!)

ETA: DVR results for week ending 5/03/13 (includes Arrow 1.21/SPN 8.21 TGE)

Nikita,90210 TVD and HoD were only shows that made the top 25 this week. No Surprise with low performers Nikita and 90210 or mid-performer HoD and I would be more surprised if TVD didn't make it as TVD still has strong gains in DVR results. The chart ended unusually high this week (47%); essentially both Arrow and SPN could have gained 0.4 (44%) and not made it; however if either or both gained 0.5, they would have made as TVD's gain was 60% (0.6).

One thing is not clear to me, is the potential impact of The CW making it known that SPN would encore SPN 8.21, 8.22 and 8.23 on Fridays after Nikita - Nielson viewers knowing they had an extra chance to watch SPN on Fridays for the final three episodes could have had a "negative" affect on L+7's. I haven't keep close enough tabs on SPN's "competition (CM and SVU in particular) to see if either show had slightly higher increases.
