Episode 6.15 “The French Mistake”

SAM AND DEAN ARE TRANSPORTED TO AN ALTERNATE REALITY — Raphael (guest star Lanette Ware) launches an attack on Castiel (Misha Collins) and his allies, sending a particularly frightening angelic hitman (guest star Carlos Sanz) after Balthazar (guest star Sebastian Roche), Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles)... In an effort to protect the brothers, Balthazar sends them to an alternate universe where they are the stars of a TV show called “Supernatural” and they are actors named “Jensen Ackles” and “Jared Padalecki.” The brothers are confused when Castiel appears to be a tweet-happy actor named Misha Collins and Sam is married to Ruby (Genevieve Cortese).

Charles Beeson directed the episode written by Ben Edlund (##615).

:waves: Enjoy the episode and please rate and discuss

Sounds ROTFLMAO! :rofl :278 :278 :rofl !

Oh my god, I loved this episode!!! I cannot remember the last time I laughed this hard. The scene where Sam and Dean were trying to act was priceless. I'm off to watch it again.

I laughed til I cried! The acting scene was hilarious! I am confused about one thing though ... the comments of, "At least they're talking..." Maybe I am just dense, but I didn't get it.

I think it was just a joke. They were trying to say that the Jared and Jensen in their world didn't get along. Because in RL Jared and Jensen are besties.

I loved the whole acting scene, Jared was hysterical when Sam was trying to figure out what to do with his arms.

The premise of the AU was that "Jensen" and "Jared" didn't speak to each other off the set. They didn't like other and that's why everyone on the set they met were surprised that "J-squared" were so chummy with each other.

I liked TFM on the first watch but wouldn't so far as to say I loved it immediately as I did with BE's previous S6 comedy CYHIYB - that episode had me giggling continuously. I'll watch it again later or tomorrow to see if I think it's funnier on the second watch. TFM has earned at least a guaranteed "Pretty Good" though.

I'll be back - promise - with a more extensive post and rating this weekend.

:D Yes, sort of how they teamed up to kill Ruby. In this reality there were no Angel swords coz I'd love to see Sam have a turn at killing a high ranking angel.

It was more brutal than Ruby, cause they were beating the shit out of him. I laughed really hard at that scene. That and the acting one...

OK, I’m back again. I figured out why I was so relatively speak “meh” about the episode – I didn’t have my Friday night ice cream as part of my new episode Supernatural ritual. Yes, kiddoes, I’m a bad Supernatural fan - I prefer ice cream to pie, but my son was home Thursday night and we polished off my ice cream. :D .

I laughed a lot more of my second and subsequent viewings and while not my favorite funny episode - BDABR and CYHIYB are currently tied for that – TFM is on the next tier down as far as humorous episodes go, tied with Jeremy Carver’s Changing Channels. And after much thought, I’ve concluded TFM is the best “Meta” episode. I gave it an “Awesome”.

It was packed with hilarious one – liners. Nobody can do a better exaggeration of bad acting like the J’s can do. TFM poked fun at some of the flaws – some early on and a few ongoing – in JP and JA’s acting; JP not always knowing what to do with his hands and JA’s “growly, fade in and out – voice”. JP’s ham acting and JA’s constant firing off hysterically funny one liners were to die for :thud .

I got the feeling like the J’s were having fun with some fans usual critiques. AND, the episode made sure to poke fun in at least two places at some extreme but vocal fans' complaints that this is (another) season of Sam, Sam, Sam and Dean is neglected, blah , blah, blah. I think this ep establishes that those fans are heard but their complaints aren’t going to sway the showrunner and writers necessarily.

I like Misha a lot more than Castiel and I thought MC was a riot until MC became Castiel at the end and I was a bit bored by his performance, while I haven't been bored by Cas yet this season.

“Jared’s” ostentatious mansion and “Jensen’s trailer” were very well appointed and decked out with photos, the Supernatural magazine, “Jensen” acting in the background (I don’t which episode or episodes that was from), Jensen’s “DOOL” performance – never watched the show – and Alt!Jared and Gen’s charities (Otters, Alpaca) were spoofed well. It was so great to their real wedding photo displayed in the episode.

I admit to getting a wee bit nervous when Virgil opened fire killing “Kripke”, “Singer”, “Kevin (the assistant DP) and others, about whether the show will not be renewed but I doubt that The CW can afford not to renew it. I think the guy that was dodging the bullets – matrix style – was Alt!Serge (Ladouceur)– Supernatural’s Director of Photography. I made crude screen caps of Alt!Serge both at the beginning when the boys crash through the “4th wall” and of the guy dodging the bullets and the images look like the same man. Several observations from his ability to easily get away – 1) he is an “avatar” for BE as the writer and he is showing off that TFM is his playground and he can bend or make of the rules for this “reality”; 2 – his “profile” and facial expression looks very similar Richard Speight (The Trickster/Gabriel) even though I’m sure it’s not – but maybe his ability to escape means “Gabriel” will return, in this season or the next season.

The mythology: Balthazar was apparently trying to kill two birds with one stone in sending the boys to the Twilight Zone; he was buying time to retrieve Heaven’s stolen nukes and he was attempting to get rid of both Winchesters, through either being killed outright by Virgil or by getting stuck in that reality.( I admit to being disappointed in two areas; first, I hoped to see another episode with one of Heaven’s nukes being used and second, I was hoping for more followup on RoboSam’s deal for the spell. Maybe we’ll see both sl’s followed up. ) The thing is Balty’s plan – to throw Virgil off his trail and follow the Winchesters – was strategically sound and something I would expect high ranking angels like Castiel to approve. Sam and Dean’s “feelings” are hurt – Castiel had potentially traded their lives for Balty’s weapons cache which allowed him to gain substantial advantage over Raphael. It’s a “looking at the bigger picture” move which Dean found so offensive in eps like ITGPSW and in Future!Dean’s behavior in TE.

Dean: “Should I stay or should I go”? I loved how Dean felt he was protecting Sam when he proposed that they stay after the return ritual failed– where there was no Heaven, Hell, Angels, Demons – and likely nothing that would trigger Sam’s Hell memories to break through. Where – at least “Jared” (and most likely Jensen) – was relatively wealthy and happily married to Fake!Ruby. Dean gave “Bob Singer” a pretty speech about them really being the Winchesters and that no one knew them but they made a difference and saved the world a time or two – but I don’t think he really “felt it” because he seemed tired and depressed again.

Sam – twice – chose “Home” and “Brotherhood” over safety and prosperity– just as Dean chose to go back to his reality in WIAWSNB. Sam gave Dean nearly the same speech as he gave at the end of “WI” and his making sure they were really “Home” and his quip “At least we’re talking” Dean seemed to shrug off (poor word choice). I know that Dean is pissed at Cas using them but is he also not fully confident that “Sam has his back and is grateful he has his soul back” or is Dean still moping about his relationship with L&B falling apart and having his brother “whole again” is just not enough affirmation for him.
