I'm putting this poll up early in case my son has my laptop tied up doing his taxes tomorrow and I forget to do it (my desktop is broken atm - "frowny face" ). Anyway I'm positively jumping with excitement at having a new episode after the "Spring Hellatus" from well, Hell, specifically, from Lucifer's Cage. Please rate and discuss. |

Seems like Castiel is shady this season (finally!) - hope we find out just what this 'soul weapon' is for - and I have a feeling Sam's tied to it (re: being soulless) and that Cas may be behind the reason Sam's body was back up top sans his soul. Decent episode, considering I wasn't expecting much.

I really enjoyed this eppie. It was nice to Ellen back, even if it was just for a little while. What interesting is that while there were some noticeable differences in the Titanic doesn't sink world, the Mustang, Bobby and Ellen being married, Sam and Dean were still pretty much the same. They were still hunters and were still trying to save as many people as they could. It was weird to see Sam and Dean not driving the Impala. I didn't care for the mustang too much and I was glad to see the Metallicar at the end. I love that they used Blondie in the episode. I could have done w/o the Celine Dion at the end. I love the expression on Sam's face as he was walking between the flame throwers. Too hysterical. The hellatus is over! Woo hoo!

I voted pretty good, mainly because I think the whole "Titanic didn't sink" was a stupid idea for an SL, even if they did back it up with something semi plausible. It was just dumb and I doubt I'll ever feel otherwise. Aside from that aspect of the episode, I enjoyed it. I have to say, I'm no longer glued to my seat with each episode like I used to be, and that is a shame as I don't think I'll ever get that giddy love back. Sam going through the flamer throwers was a riot. But my favorite part was the beginning. "Talk to him." "No, you." "No, you." The boys were definitely back in that.

I rated MHWGO “Pretty Good”. Unsinking the Titanic was gimmicky but it worked because an extra 1500 or so survivors wouldn’t cause too much of a butterfly effect over time (by creating 50,000 “new lives/souls” ) that undoing a major event (like WWI) would nor was it so small that not enough new souls would be born. I agree … I definitely think that Cas has something to do with Sam’s Soulless state and we have theories but nothing exactly fits what we’ve been shown and heard Cas say to Balthazar and what Cas has told Dean or Dean and Sam. Is Crowley involved or not? Was Balthazar involved in taking Sam’s soul? He was against Sam’s “re-souling”, too. Is Death more involved than just making Dean promise he would not interfere with Sam hosting Lucifer and jumping into the Cage? Then making a wager with Dean – Sam’s soul in return for wearing his ring for a day, a bet that Dean lost and returning Sam’s soul anyway. A bit OT but I hope that Sam’s soul was in the cage or at least in Hell the whole time and Death didn’t resurrect Sam and then stash his soul in Purgatory. Not that it’s a bad idea but there’s no show canon – yet – that Purgatory is where human souls go to be cleansed; Bobby described it as Monsterland and the Alpha Vamp and ShapeShifter said they only “knew” [but they obviously were lying] that Purgatory was where they “go” when they die. There’s no question anymore that Balty is working with Cas being the one to get his hands dirty. And Cas straight out lied to boys and while its easy to blame Cas’s learning to lie on just the boys Zachariah lied without blinking. Likely it can be the same with Angels as it with humans – when they want something really badly (like winning the war) they lie. I think that Castiel’s intentions are “good” (this is coming from a non- Cas fan, too) and somewhat mirror what Dark!Sam was trying to do in S4. But can Cas accomplish his goals without collateral damage – I doubt it. Fate stressed - and strenuously objected - that Cas & Balty created “new souls” for their war machine, before Balty re-sank the Titanic. Is it the creation of new souls of more importance than just the souls of humans already alive? Are souls very literally currency to “buy” more powerful weapons? In other words did each new soul born have a “Marker” on it – “owned” by Castiel & Balthazar to exchange for more powerful weapons or is it the soul’s energy that can be harvested like Famine was feeding on. I assume that many thousands of the “new people” grew old or died in accidents or disease. What happened to these persons’ souls when the event was reversed? Did the souls cease to exist or were they already in Cas’s War coffers because Angels exist out of Space-Time? I’m dying to know more about “the souls”.
ITA. Though both songs fit their context extremely, I agree with Balthazar – hearing that song again made me want to smite myself. It’s a pity that a great song was overplayed to death and now it’s a rare person that doesn’t cringe when they hear it again.
I agree with you all … these were two of the best scenes in the episode. It’s so rewarding to have our boys in tune once again! And JP once again proves he’s superb doing physical comedy and all the little expressions that accompany it. Jensen is also very good doing comedy though since Dean is usually the brother making “funnies” “Sam” sticks out more when he gets his turn. All in all I liked MHWGO much better than these writers' previous episode M3TR although M3TR did have a few great moments. |
