You Smell Like a Toilet

I've been spending way too much time on other Supernatural forums, and for the most part I find the Dean love overwhelming, and the Sam love minimal. In fact, I'd say the Sam hate is distressingly strong. I've seen so many posts lately about how Sam has too much to do in the show, how Dean is so much better than him, and how much better the show would be without him. I've even seen people talking about how Sam is actually a bad person, and never does anything altruistic. It's made me really sad, I love both the boys and I don't understand how anyone who claims to love this show can actively hate one of the most important parts of it. SO! Let's talk about why we love Sam, what makes him an amazing character, and all the wonderful things he adds to the show! I love Sam for his ability to push on through insurmountable odds. I love him for how hard he always tries to do the right thing, even when fate seems determined to screw him over. I love his floppy hair and dewey eyes. I love that he's a giant nerd. I could go on forever, but I don't want to steal all the good ones! |

So glad to see you posting again!!!!!!!! You have been missed, as we need all the Sam love we can get! I love that, even after years of not seeing her, losing Sarah was a true loss for Sam. I love that he cried when he had to kill Madison. I love that no matter how sick the trials were making him, he was determined to finish them and shut hell's gate. I love that despite everything, he always places Dean's wants/needs above his own. |

Oh I'm definitely totally on-board with this thread!!! ![]() And hi Kyshal, nice to meet you! I love your and Tammi's four thoughts (and I know what you mean, I have a near obsession with that hair and those eyes, LOL)...and sadly, I also know what you mean about how irrational Sam-hate runs rampant on the internet. That's why I stay away from so many SPN-related boards and comment sections...I've learned over the years that it's best to just let them stew in their own venom, and ever since I did just that and stopped laying eyes on their constant hostility I am a much happier fan for it! Those banshees will never cease their shrieking about how horrible Sam is in every way, never run out of 'reasons' and 'evidence' to pull out of their rears...clearly they love to hate on Sam (and even Jared) far more than they love anything about the show, so accordingly I have come to completely disregard them as fans. Let them whine and rage and be miserable while the rest of us focus on rationality, reasonable analysis, reality, and all the things we enjoy about the show...that's my best advice. And this thread is certainly a step in the right direction of that! It's gonna be hard to limit my 'Sam loves' to four as well but here's what comes to mind (without copying anything that's already been said) for me: - I love how Sam looks for the good in things/beings - even 'monsters' - and thereby gives them the chance and consideration other hunters wouldn't have given...and that even after so much bad, he still holds on to faith in a greater good. - I love Sam for how he forgives others when they've hurt him, and how he never forgets those who have helped him, striving to - when possible - help them back in turn. - I love how Sam takes responsibility for his mistakes and works in doing all he can to atone for or correct them...even when what he did was in reality beyond his control (such as when he was soulless) - I love Sam for never giving up on his brother, even when Sam has nearly given up on himself or when Dean has given up on himself...and most of all even when Dean has all but given up on Sam. Obviously there are so very many more, but there's my four for now. Hopefully we can keep this thread going and take turns contributing like this!

What an uplifting thread, Kyshal! I agree with you and Kitty that the SPN General Fan Forum Sam-hate has reached the tipping point this year for me and I place the blame squarely on Carver's early S8 decision processes. I'm thrilled with your, Tammi's and Kitty's "4" but I confess to drawing a blank to adding more "Sam Love" traits besides one: -- I love Sam's humility because 1) he's expressed it several times on the show and 2) "Sacrifice" definitely showed how "less than..." other significant people in Dean's life (Cas, Benny, and I'll add Kevin, Bobby and Ellen to the list) Sam felt. The whole S4 plot with Ruby, the DB drinking and the lies was because he failed to save Dean in S3 (obviously) and Ruby was priming him to take "control" over his life (to free Lucifer), control Sam never felt he had as Dean's "snot-nosed little brother". But like many addicts, Sam's control was just an illusion and he wound up letting Dean down - again. |
