CW 2018/2019 Charmed,'Roswell, New Mexico', In The Dark, All American, and Legacies get series orders at The CW Like several other networks today, the CW has just given out series orders to a whole wave of new shows for its 2018-19 TV season. The first - and biggest - of the network's pickups was the long-awaited 'Charmed' reboot. Coming from 'Jane the Virgin' showrunner, Jennie Snyder Urman, the new twist on the beloved late-90s series will follow three sisters living in a college town who, after the tragic death of their mother, are shocked to discover they are actually witches. Not long after, the powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy. The second pickup was creator Carina Adly MacKenzie's 'Roswell, New Mexico,' a story about a daughter of undocumented immigrants who reluctantly returns to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, only to discover that her teenage crush is now a police officer and also… an alien who has kept his spectacular abilities a secret. As the two reconnect and look to investigate his origins, an attack and long-standing alien cover-up by the government threaten to tear them apart. 'All American' marked the network's third pickup, which coming from April Blair and inspired by the real-life of pro football player Spencer Paysinger, takes place when a rising South L.A.-based football player is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High, forces the wins, losses and struggles of two families from vastly different worlds to collide. Meanwhile, Corinne Kingsbury's 'In The Dark' will follow a flawed and irreverent blind woman, who when she is the only witness to a murder, sets out to solve the case with the help of her service dog, Pretzel. All while managing her own dating life and the day job she hates, as a guide at the dog school owned by her overprotective parents. The final pickup of the announcement was 'Legacies,'from creators Julie Plec and Brett Matthews, and which will center around a new generation of supernatural beings within the same fictional world as The Vampire Diaires and The Originals. It will take place at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, when Klaus Mikaelson's 17-year-old daughter, Alaric Saltzman's twins, and various other young adults come of age in the most unconventional way, nurtured to be their best selves… in spite of their worst impulses. But as the series goes on, the school's young witches, vampires, and werewolves will have to decide whether they will become the heroes they want to be — or the villains they were born to be. The CW may be announcing more pickups as the day goes on, and this post will be updated should more news comes in." - The CW passed on Wayward Sisters - iZombie was renewed for S5 In later news The CW passed on all the other pilots - and there's a good chance iZ was renewed based on this decision. I'm pissed that WS was not picked up - if only for 13 and done - not because I was a fan of more the general concept of the series but because Dabb/Berens wasted 3 episodes out of 23 for the setup. However, I would not be entirely surprised if The CW reverses the decision and picks it up for midseason especially if at least one of the new series premieres in Fall bombs. Dabb and Berens are angry with the decision, there's fan petitions, the actresses affiliated with the show has expressed disappointment ... Stranger things have happened in TVLand. |
