Just curiosity really and also as a reasurance for other parents that they are not alone. My question is...We know that the stress of looking after children with special needs can be seriously hard to cope with. How many of you have been to the doctor and are taking or have taken anti depressants to help with the coping? I'm figuring the totals will be quite high. |

I've taken them in the past. I had Post Natal Depression after my first child following a very traumatic birth. I handed in my notice at work, and to this day, I don't remember doing it. It was a really scary time for me, and my husband. At times, I feel I could do with antidepressants again, but I'm coping at the moment. |

I've never taken them, not sure wether it's because I find my own way of coping with stressful times or wether I've just been lucky enough to never have needed them! |

Im trying to decide whether or not to start taking them again as im beginning to see the signs of my depression creeping back. Years ago i took Prozac but they made me violent and i clobbered Phil 3 times, the last time was with a frying pan So i soon changed them as i was scared that i might harm him or Charlie (who was only 4mths old ). Luckily the new 1s did not have the same side effectsSarah xxx |

So far on the poll 7 out of 8 parents are or have in the past taken anti depressants. That's scary. Please keep filling in the poll. That's a good point though, they seem to assume that everything that is wrong with us is stress related. That's really unfair. |
