do you get out on your own much or with friends?my friend whose a single parent with 3 kids never really gets out unless her son is in respite which isent very often, she said thats one of the hard things having no time for herself, even to think sometimes.
i can go out quite a bit cos ive got mum and nick but when i do stay in for long periods i get really down, even a walk to the shops perks me up,when nick had his breakdown before he met me the doctor said go out for a walk once a day,he says that advice really helped him and when my husband left me i was devastated but i forced myself to put steve in his buggy and go for a walk every day i still felt rotten but i honestly think it helped,i dont know if its the fresh air or the exercise but it done me so much good
mum to steven AS aged 12 / daughter aged 2

i have trouble coping so ignore me while i have a moan!!

A special friend
I follow that advice too Hev. It does make a huge difference when i've taken the dog for a walkor gone out on the bike. Some days if i'm feeling really 'lost' i can't manage to go out the door, but i have learned not to beat myself up about those days, i give myself time to de-stress and 'lick my wounds'. Generally if i do this, the next day is better.

I'm lucky in that i do get time to myself, i have a couple of days during the week when M's at school and my Hubbys great at kicking me out for the evening if i'm getting too stressed!! Plus i work 3 days a week, so that helps to get me out and about.

Mark and I get the time when the kids are at school and that's it. To be honest I feel it a lot more now that they are teenagers and I watch other people taking their freedom for granted. I suppose it's just become something we're used to now, having no supportive family we just don't get the opportunity to get out.

I have learned not to lay so much importance on getting up and tidying the house from top to bottom like I used to. I do more of that when the kids are there now and when I can, it's not the most important part of my day.

I get a night out to the theatre once (or if I'm really lucky twice) a year with my sister, it's our little treat.

During the week I have Scarlett with me all the time but most Saturday mornings hubby looks after the two youngest whilst me and Roxanne go into town for a couple of hours which is nice.

As for going out with hubby, we've been out twice together in the past ten years!

My plan was to get Friday to myself.

Sometimes though, the best laid plans just don't turn out.

For instance, today I thought I'd pop to the shops in the morning, then come back after the cleaner had been, and put my feet up for the afternoon. I had the lady from Menphys SOS coming, and looked forward to a chat.

Hmmmmm............

Dropped James at school. He hurt himself before we got there, and really banged his stomach on the corner of a picnic table in the school yard. I went in to explain and the words "Play dough" and "Reward" were dropped into the conversation. James cannot have play dough as it contains wheat flour and sends him loopy. As they had already told the children they would be playing with it this afternoon, I then spent the whole morning trawling around my local town, then went to Leicester, but could not find any wheat free modelling clay ANYWHERE!

I also tried to find some latex gloves, but they don't make them in child sizes. In the end I came home with a £1.50 tube of barrier cream which according to the pharmacist should prevent the wheat flour penetrating the skin.

By the time I got home and discovered that the cleaner had let me down, the lady from Menphys was arriving, so I just feel totally stressed now.

Maybe I should just work instead.

As for nights out, I'd rather have a nice quiet relaxing bath without interuptions, and read a good book. That never happens either. :(
If you stay ready, you won't need to get ready!
