Did you know that if your young person is getting Disability Living Allowance for help with getting around they can get a provisional licence at 16 years or over instead of trhe usual 17 years. If you want to know more about this you should write to Customer Enquiries (Drivers) Unit DVLC Swansea SA6 7JL |

Hi there isnt the provisional now only if you have higher rate i just read. Is this a new thing that it needs to be higher cause my daughter has just told me she heard it on the radio so when i looked it up it said you had to be on a higher rate. Can someone clarify this. The autistic society has a list of driving schools o believe who teach kids with aspergers. |

You can download the DVLA medical guidelines from here, it states that for Aspergers each case is individual and depends on the levels of awareness etc DVLA MEDICAL GUIDELINES |

Yes confirmed Boo the information on the DVLA site states...... If you are receiving disability living allowance at the higher rate your provisional licence will come into effect when you are 16, but you can apply for it within three months of your 16th birthday. |

oh dear dont tell my son this,if you hads seen his bike riding skills,he goes through more bikes than uve had hot dinners.HE HAS NO SENSE OF FEAR OR DANGER.Have only just convinced him not to go to scrap yard and buy an old wreck to do up.He was going to buy a 30 pound car and do it up piece by piece. So when he was 17 he would have his own car.He said I will use the garage and the drive you can park your car down street. He was like a dog with a bone for over a week at every oppertunity Im getting a car im doing it up.Whilst this is good for some not for him with his road sense. |

I totally feel the same about my son with Aspergers Jill, thats why I think they take each case individually to ensure they get a full picture of each candidate. I wouldn't worry. |
