SCHOOL bullies who tied a helpless girl to a tree and beat her escaped with just a DETENTION.

Special needs pupil Rebecca McDonald, eight, was grabbed by four tormentors who put plastic tape round her neck.

They marched her behind a shed, tied her to a tree trunk and hit her with sticks — then abandoned her.

Her screams for help were heard by her nine-year-old sister Rhianan, who had to use her teeth to cut her loose.

Rebecca told a dinner lady of her ordeal but the school failed to act and she spent the rest of the day surrounded by her tormentors.

Last night mum Julie, 29, demanded an inquiry at Danemill Primary in Enderby, Leicester.

What message does this send out about our kids.....In my opinion only one, our kids are second class citizens and should be treatyed accordingly. This is horrendous!

You know what Mandy...it is totally rubbish!!!

But...why dosent it surprise me? You know that Joseph has been through similar things...and because he retaliated by...wait for it...by kicking a bike, he had a police warning!

Wish I knew this lady...I would give her my 100% support. (do u think we could do anything?)

DISGUSTING...ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE

Hi...me again...sorry but that has totally done my head in..lol

I went on The Sun website and put a letter in about it, see below!

So bad I just get so fed up of what our children have to go through! WRONG WRONG WRONG

To whom it may concern,

After reading the story of Rebecca I felt compelled to air my absolute disgust at the school's responce to such a dispicable act of bullying.
My son (who has special needs) has had similar experiences, both whilst playing out and whilst attending his old school, and the responce from my complaints have also been handled poorly, both by the police and his former school.

If I abused another person the same way I would be hauled up court and be made to pay for my actions, so why does this school feel a detention is an adequate form of punishment?

Attitudes like this make life harder for children with special needs (as if they dont have enough to cope with).

No wonder my brother, his wife and four boy's (one of whom is special needs) are emigrating to Canada next month. I know what prompted him is the poor provision (if any at all) that is given by this country for such children!

Time something was done...dont you think?

Great letter...good for you.

Well you all know how I stand on bullying! I was talking to hubby about this earlier and said that I think the parents should be able to take legal action against the school (with a chance of winning) if schools say they have a strict anti bullying policy and then do nothing when this sort of thing happens. In my opinion these children should have been excluded whatever their ages.

Grrrrr. Makes you so flippin angry doesn't it? I am so against bullying in any shape or form, but to any child with special needs it is even worse.
Well done for writing the letter - let's hope they can do something positive about it.

i just saw that in the sun,the kids only got a detention eh,well how would the headmaster liked to be tied to a tree and hit with sticks, obviously he wouldnt mind as his punishment to the kids was so lenient, bullies are evil, they affect peoples life for years, affect peoples self esteem,if the punishment given out to them was a punishment and not a slap on the wrist, they might think about doing it again, what punishment would you have given if you was the head?i would have expelled them,as i think its assault
mum to steven AS aged 12 / daughter aged 2

i have trouble coping so ignore me while i have a moan!!

This is really close to home for myself and Lisa, in fact Enderby is just down the road really.

This is horrific, and I too will add a letter to the sun.

This sort of thing kind of makes you stop and think what the future will be like ,what as our future some people, parents are teaching these kids  and what kind of future we are all in for where the stories we read everday in the paper ,what mere children can do to other kids its damn frightening and things dont look like getting any better soon do they

They probably still will, if you look at the topic of the day where there's loads of letters on the same subject, chances are they'll post it in there. You don't have to buy the paper everyday either, all of the letters are on the Sun website so you can always check that first to see if they've used it and then buy the paper if you want one to keep. I've had a few letters published in there and they do tend to take a while to go in at times.
