I have my exam's starting next week and I'm worried sick! When I go into an exam I cant cope! I immediatly need the loo for a desperate number 2 (even if I have already been) and in my last exam I broke out in hives and felt EXTREMELY tired to the point I could've put my head down and easily slept through it. I itched from head to toe...it was horrendous! I have it in my head that it's going to happen again...because I want to pass sssooooo badly else I wont make it to my second year I know it's stress related reactions and I know why it's happening but it makes no bluming difference. If I take antihistomines will it help?...But dont they make u drowsy? Any tips on what I could do?...can I buy something that binds you up (I not over keen on eggs)Seriously...please any advise will be really really appreciated! Lisa x x |

When I was at college a friend of mine use to get so nervous during exams, presentations, etc.. She was prescribed something by her GP to help her stay calm, not sure what it was though. In my 2nd year of my degree I completely froze in one of my exams and couldn't answer some of the questions - I tried my best, but got everything muddled up - As soon as I got outside I knew all the answer (it was very frustrating). As for advice (easier said than done). - Try and get a good night sleep the night before the exam. - Don't do last minute cramming for the exams, it rarely helps and is likely to make you far more stressed. - If you have done enough revision/work for your exam, try and do something enjoyable/relaxing the day before your exam - When I was at university, I use to go down to the seafront and just watch the waves crash against the shore. When you are in the exam. - Read the instructions carefully - re-read if you have to. - if you get a choice of questions, choose carefully and answer the questions you know best first. - if it says answer 4 questions - answer 4 questions - even if you can only really answer 3 of them it is far better to put something down and gain a few extra marks. - plan your time. for example if it is a 3 hour exam and you have to answer 4 questions. That is 45 mins per question - for this I would spend 30 mins on each question and give my self time at the end to go back over each question adding anything else I have remembered. - I find making a plan before the exam and sticking to it during the exam helped me calm down. Hope some of that is helpful and best of luck By the way, what are your exams in?

Adrian speaks a lot of sense. SOme good advice there. I would take some antihistamines in with you. At least then, if you break out, you can take one. Lots of deep breaths to calm you. If you had more time, I'd recommend some hypnotherapy. Goos luck Lisa. Remember that you can do this!

I'm not laughing Lisa, and I know you. I also know you will do your best, and that's what counts. You deserve to pass this Lisa, so please leave those text books at home. You know where I am if you need a calm chat!
