Bestest friend
I bit the bullet yesterday and rang social services to ask if we fitted the criteria for Respite. My god social services are damn difficult to get hold of. I rang the free phone number in the phone book and was told to ring my local ssd office. Having done this I was then told the person I needed to speak to was out of the office and she would have to ring me back. 2 hours later, no phone call (impatient is me lol) I rang again only to be told it was the WRONG OFFICE, and because I lived in Hampshire I needed to speak to Hamshire ss not Dorset. I live on the border, my address being in Hampshire, but my council tax is paid to East Dorset!!! Aaaargh!!! I ring Hampshire but told, no, because I pay council tax to East dorset it come under them! Phone them back, and yes, it is them, but wrong office, as respite for learning disabilities is dealt with by the Purbeck office! Ring them and person not in office, they will have to ring me back, but it may not be same day as they only work M/W/F!! Anyway, to make a long story even longer, someone did call me back a while later.....an hour long phone call to start referral process, then to be told its likely cause Jen goes to a school for moderate disabilities, that may be she doesnt have severe learning difficulities as I suggested! But that if her IQ was 51 or less we would be eligible for respite anyway. Jen's is 54!! I am now waiting for someone to contact me back again to proceed with the referral, but not sure if all the hassle will be worth it if we are gonna get turned down any way....Aaargh!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Why does everything have to be such a battle?

Keep fighting Kim. You'll get there once they realise you are serious, and not going to go away easily.
If you stay ready, you won't need to get ready!
