Have you ever looked at your respective partners and wondered if they are actually sitting on the low end of the autistic spectrum? I only ask because I was lucky enough to have got the chance to sit and talk with two ladies who have had their husbands confirmed as being on the spectrum and both Mark and I were amazed at how many similarities there were between them and him. Things like....When the kids were younger and I asked Mark to makes sure he did something he would do that something to the detriment of everything else, menaning that if he started something in the afternoon he would forget tto get the kids from school. Another example was one day when he asked me what to give them for dinner and I said eggs? We didn't have any eggs so he didn't give them anything and we've had times when he's not given the kids their tea cos he wasn't hungry....lol Does anyone else wonder secretly about whether their spouses are on the spectrum? |

Joseph's dad is definatley on the spectrum...although I didnt realise it at the time! He never ever gave me a cuddle if I cried...just didnt seem to bother him...ever! My mates used to think that he was always looking at their boobs coes he dosent look anybody in the eye...he talks to your chest (male or female). His mum couldnt cope after he was expelled TWICE from school at the age of 10 and he went from home to home and finally ended up living with his grandparents. We have not been together for ten years now and he hasnt formed another relationship with anyone else...and he has only one friend to his name. It's really weird because Joe looked at me the other day and I just saw his dad...they are so alike. Joe's psychiatrist said that Aspergers does get passed from male to male mainly (but we all know that boy's are made from slugs and snails and puppy dog tails dont we..lol) |

In our family it is passed through the females, but affects the males. My husband is definitely not on the spectrum. My grandfather had Aspergers (although we didn't know it at the time, but now it is so obvious!). It was passed though my mum to my brother, and through me to my son. This obviously gives me concern for Amy having children of her own, although at least we are all now fully aware, and could look out for it early on. My brother in law I believe has ADHD. He was also expelled from school, and went to boarding school. He is still aggresive and hyperactive now. |

hiya i think my husband is on the spectrum somewhere (although dont tell him i said so!) hes really bad at eye contact, never shows emotions, doesnt like hugs, completly obsessed with the computer and appears deaf. there are others but those are the most obvious. he laughs at things that really arent funny and are inappropriate to do so. and the things he says are inappropriate too but that could be just as hes a bloke! oops sorry to all you men out there! i read things on here that ive thought thats him! exactly! i think one was pda? or something? sooo like him. our peadiatrition asked us how he was as a little boy - well weve tried to ask his mum but she wont say anything! just - 'oh he was a nice lad' hes splendid really though! when i see him petal |

I think we should feel very special to live with an AS husband, Mine is: Level headed, Able to look at things without clouding them with emotions Inteligent (he can tell me alsorts about history or maths) Loves me deaply Doesn't ramble (like me) gets to the point Will do anything for me (well almost anything, with enough notice) Reliable Honest I know there are things of course that infuriate me, I don't think ill do that list today! But I wouldn't want anyone else (lived with one alcoholic, wife beater for 10years that was enough for me). Sorry trying to be light hearted and of course positive, lots of hugs Dawn |
