This post was in another thread but I've copied it onto the new fridge door
 I'll weigh myself in the morning, (gonna be hitting the choc peanuts and this evening)
 but here's my plan. Well I will never diet again, because its damaged my metabolism, but I want to lose some weight IYKWIM. Just taken delivery of my "diet food" Raw chocolate powder, raw coconut liquid, and raw agave syrup (a liquid sweetner that doesn't cause the sugar rush). So I'm going to use coconut, and as many raw foods and juices, smoothies, cultured foods like yoghurts, buttermilk etc, and just eat sensible meals. Hopefully the coconut and choc will stop any cravings, and coconut oil boosts metabolism. Not much chance of my body going into famine mode hopefully If I can find my scales I'll dust 'em off and either make a note of my weight or So if anyone starts a new thread I'm up for a trial of "the coconut and chocolate diet" but raw!!

Well I've weighed - if scales could talk mine would say "one at a time please"
 But I'm not fussed what they say really, I've been lighter - and a damn sight bigger at the same time So I'm being positive about the fact that my bones have got heavier (good sign!) and I've put on some muscle weight. I don't have batwing arms any more, and my cellulite is less, I sailed through menopause (after years of PMT) and I don't have the chronic fatigue or depression I had for years either. All of which I put down to years of low fat dieting, so I have to do something different. But I could do with losing a bit more body fat, I want the energy to want to exercise, rather than feeling stressed out by the thought of it. I'm motivated, I'm ready - and so the coconut and chocolate plan begins  |

Theres hope for me then Sue.....as I have been blighted with both depression and PMS over the years, and I would like to think I will get off lightly with the menopause.

Well I'll probably put on pounds with all this experimenting I'm doing
 But the kids like choc milkshake made with buttermilk, raw choc powder, a little agave nectar, and a little bit of cream. I put in a tablespoon of coconut water as well. I prefer it with the coconut water, watered down, raw chocolate and a bit of cream, Used the agave nectar, the choc powder, a little coconut water to moisten and a dollop of cream, mixed really well to make chocolate sauce to go over fruit. A little goes a long way, but slices of banana with some drizzled over the top went down well with the kids at lunchtime. This morning's juice was interesting - apparently celery juice and coconut water make the ultimate sports drink for replenishing fluids and salts. So I had that - without the sports - but cos we've got a glut of cucumbers I added some of that as well. Its not too bad, quite drinkable, and I have definately made less cups of tea this morning. |

Well funny sort of day food wise
Breakfast fresh juice mixed with coconut liquid scrambled eggs cooked with a bit of coconut oil, on wholemeal toast, spinach and tomato salad Not gonna be my normal lunch but but after this I didn't want anything else: banana with chocolate sauce chocolate and coconut liquid milkshake, with a little cream some red grapes Tea corn on the cob with butter cold meat, bit of pickle, and steamed veges Think I'll give pudding a miss til later  The kids have decided on fresh pineapple. They've cut right back on sugar today, so I'm surprised they aren't asking for icecream. But I reckon I won't starve

Well what you have eaten today doesn't sound too yucky to me! I love celery so I could probably drink that (minus the coconut!), and apart from bananas I could quite easily scoff any of that. Corn on the cob was one of my favourites until I found out the calories in it were one of the higher vegetables, and you can't have it without some butter (or spread in my case) can you? Pineapple is apparently very fat burning so go get some! |

Well I ate early last night so was hungry this morning. Fancied a hot breakfast so had wholemeal toast with an egg and 4 tomatoes sliced and sauteed in coconut oil. Only had a scrape of butter though on my toast, after all that coconut oil yesterday I haven't wanted much butter today. Did have a choc milkshake mid morning, but used oatmilk and just a very small splash of coconut liquid. Had salad for lunch, raw spinach, a little cheese, some cooked beetroot, a baby avocado and lots of tomatoes. Tea was home made tomato and onion soup with bread and then a little meat and some onions and tomatoes yet again (Loads in the garden, not much room left in freezer). Might have a juice later (just not tomato
 )but don't need it at the moment, so far so good. The oil seems to stop me snacking, and having some raw chocolate earlier in the day makes evenings seem much easier, no cravings for anything in particular. I re-read "Why Women Need Chocolate" last night, this is definately my sort of eating plan  |

Chocolate contains loads of nutrients, magnesium being one of them, which is a relaxing mineral also involved in seratonin production and therefore mood stabilising. There are loads of others that are involved in positive mood, so it could be a combination of things about chocolate that causes the cravings in anyone. It makes us feel good. Chocolate is a food that stimulates seratonin, and endorphins, from the fat and sugar and other ingredients. Women particularly are biologically programmed to crave the fat and sugar that chocolate contains. (Men are more likely to crave protein as they have more muscle mass). Fat and sugar supports fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding. (Hence the low fat and low calorie diets are bad news during these times). Some women can take or leave chocolate but might crave other sweet or fatty foods. Its normal When a woman ovulates she is supposed to feel at her peak emotionally, again its thought to be a survival thing, a woman who feels brill is more likely to be interested in you know what, and conception is most likely to occur. After that peak often seratonin drop off, going down to a low at just before the start of a period. (Obviously some women get it worse than others). What the author says is that instead of denying our need for chocolate, we should be working with our physiology, not against it. But to her the secret is that you allow yourself chocolate, but only a small amount, and you focus on the first 3 bites of it, really savour it, your taste buds give messages to your brain, which the brain then uses to enhance mood. Chocolate then just becomes another food, not something to avoid. Overeating anything (including chocolate) can have emotional or stress relieving reasons, which needs a different approach, but the biological craving is apparently natural, and chocolate can be included as part of a healthy diet, provided you don't deny yourself until the cravings lead to a binge, and you keep to small amounts. But when it comes to chocolate - a little of what I fancy really can do me good  |

I really agree with that three mouthfuls thing, If I ever have chocolate Its the first few mouthfuls I enjoy, then the rest just gets stuffed in. An old WW trick I used to use is to buy a block of chocolate and break it into squares, then freeze them all and only take out one or two if you fancy a fix. The idea being you wanted more you have to wait for it to unfreeze which gives your body time to recognise you don't really need it. I am sure it works wonderfully for some but I grew partial to frozen chocolate! If I buy a bar now it ends up being put in the freezer because I prefer it that way |

Another thing she warns about is eating around a craving, having only re-read it last night I'm annoyed at myself this morning. I really fancied some toast and honey this morning but no I decided it wasn't healthy enough, so I ate a "proper breakfast" of eggs, toast and some tomatoes. But the honey kept looking at me so I finished up having that as well, so an extra slice of toast with butter and big layer of honey. I was already full, too much carbs, felt completely stuffed, I still feel lethargic, I could quite happily go to sleep, and have got nothing done If I had just listened to my body, I could have eaten the toast and honey, and had the "healthy" stuff later when I didn't have the craving for honey, I wouldn't have finished up overeating and I would be in a better mood. |

Maybe you could devise the chocolate cake diet Jules
 Well I got back on track, just had a smoothie lunchtime, watermelon late afternoon and a burger with wholemeal bun and salad for tea. (Compromise for the kids cos I wouldn't take them out for a burger lunchtime, I just couldn't face it) Bought some of those oatb ix things today, thought I might try them tomorrow with some fruit for breakfast for a change. At the supermarket kids picked watermelon, (half price) grapes,(reduced) and peaches. I got a couple of mangoes cos they were BOGOF.
