So what are some of your favourite ab exercises? I have a hard time sticking to anything for that long because I get bored of the vast variety of crunches and weighted side bends. |

I agree

Do some heavy med ball throws Jamie- try to throw the ball through the ground a few time from over your head and see how your abs feel the next day. Ditto on pulldown abs, as well as Russian twists. |

Cool, I'll do that, Jeff. So you throw the ball behind your head and into the ground? And how do I go about doing Russian twists? |

ab pulldowns, spread eagle sit-ups, stability ball crunches, side-bends, saxon side-bends, russian twists, ab wheel, pike-ups (w. "powerwheel" attached to feet):

Pulldown Abs and Side Bends (like Dave Tate suggests). I've noticed a huge difference since I've gone really heavy; the bodyweight ab work didn't do much for me. |

I agree

Jamie, take the ball overhead in both hands- I would say don't use the handles for this- and try to throw it through the floor in front of you, so you're bending forward. |

What's that Ab machine the Russian uses in Rocky IV? We've got one of those at our gym and that's the only exercise that I can do that I can really feel the burn with |

Overhead carries. Saxon Side-bends are good as well. I've not done either of those for ages - I'll rectify that this week I think.

I think they're only available in Becca Swanson; the Shannon Hartnett model is sold out. |

One of my training partners swears by always using weight with ab and core work, and he has one of the strongest cores I have ever seen. He also prescribes lots of bridge work. I like weighted crunches, ankle chops with a med ball, standing barbell twist to the knee (see my training log for a description), overhead squats with clean grip and snatch grip, weighted knee raises on a bench, heavy dumbbell side bends, reverse hypers, goodmornings and weighted back extensions. I don't do them all at once, but I will pick one of those and then do bridge work once a day, 6 days a week. |

My absolute favorite (sorry!) is what I call Thrower Situps: situps on a decline bench, holding a weight overhead, arms bent, as if you were about to overhand throw a soccer ball out of the goal. Emphasis is on siting up as fast as possible, trying to "throw" the weight with ab motion. |

How dare you ruin my thread with American spelling!!! Where's the honor in that? And if you didn't get that, I was sarcastically writing "honor" the American way. |
