Grey Hair Builds Strength... and looks good too!!

Here in Toronto we've been in a heat wave for over a week now. Of course where ever the heat goes humidity follows. My question for the panel is: Do you change your training program to account for excessive heat? By this I mean less frequent sessions or lighter weights, anything to keep from passing out after 45min. or so. Been keeping the fluids and nutrients up but strength seems sapped. |

Tell me about it, were in the same heat wave in the north and i feel weak as a little girl. Keep up the fluid intake and alter your training if you think you feel you have to. |

I won't consume an energy drink that's thermogenic, and if I am outside, I double my water intake and stay in the shade when I am not doing a lift or event. Also helps to keep a towel nearby to dry your hands, and have an extra shirt or two. Sweat makes things like farmers' implements and yokes a little slippery. |

This is why I'm setting up a gym in my basement for the rest of the summer. We're expecting 45 degrees celsius here. |

Make sure you're well hydrated before you start training. You want to have fluids in you an hour or tow before training, so its not sloshing around in your stomach. Start taking a good mineral supplement as well. Some folks I know swear by Pedialyte, but I could never stomach that. I get a powdered sports drink, and make it up about half strength, and sip on that. Cool/ tepid shower afterwards. And obviously, if you start getting swimmy headed, stop and get out of the heat, and get fluids. |

Now you're boring us

Even in my basement it's so hot I feel weak. Lots of gatorade and more rest between sets. I thought I was just being a pansy until my fiancee tried lifting down there and couldn't budge her normal weights. |

From NorthBay, but still OK

I hate this heat wave!!!! I find even though my gym has air conditioning, the fact that I sweat the entire friggin day before going , just drains my energy and makes it a chore to go in to train. But I still drag my sorry ass in there and git er done. I do feel weaker though, so I cut back the weight a little, but try to keep the same volume. |

I think we are having those every other day if we like it or not! You never know if you will come home with a full size pool as a basement! Or if you'll have Hydro. |
