5 sets of 8 for everything, every day?
What's the purpose of this routine?

Seems a little high on sets for that many reps. Is this a bodybuilding routine or a strenght building routine?

Looks a little high. If you want basic bodybuilding routines that build strength as well check out "Keys to Progress". It's nothing but great training articles.

The exercises look reasonably balanced enough and if you're young the volume won't kill you or anything, but like everyone else, I'm curious as to what you're trying to accomplish.

Also, what kind of progression are you using? How long do you plan on sticking with this plan? You're using 3 sets of 8 for everything? Why not a mix of lower rep work for the multijoint exercises and some higher rep work on the dumbells? Squatting twice a week is fine, but have you considered a back squat day and a front squat day?

Where do you want to be six weeks from now with this program? Are you training for a specific sport or just to look good?

Good basic routine.
However I think you will make better overall size and strength gains by varying your reps a bit.

ex. One to two weeks of 10's, then 8's, then 6's than 4's, take and easy week and restart the process.

Cheer

thanks for all the replies......to answer your questions, im not competing in strongman or anything, im basically body building to stay in shape for various sports and of course to look good for everyday life.....

when i started i was about 6 feet and 150 pounds (yup very skinny).....currently im at about 225 with about 14-15% BF......when i started i had trouble benching 80 pounds (i know, pathetic)......currently im up to about 245 x 8......my squats are about 275 x 8......probably not nearly what you guys can do, but its been a big accomplishment for me.......by the end of the year i want to be squatting 315, and benching 275 (hopefully)

i have used this routine before and it worked well for size and strength, i am just trying to get some new ideas and opinions, as im kinda running out of ideas and workout routines......i might try varying the rep ranges......

thanks again.....and any more replies are welcome

Seriously?

Try Here.

For BBing purposes, there are endless worthwhile routines. I personally recommend EDT (Charles Staley).

I just had a better look at your routine (I was running low on time IIRC) and have noticed that you are doing sort of all body workouts each day.

What I have learnt on other forums and BB/Strength resources would lead me to believe that thats overtraining.

Why not try a basic Back and Bis/Chest,Shoulders and Tris/Legs Spilt?

Or if you like whole body workouts only do 2 a week?

It's not. As long as the volume and intensity are balanced well enough, as well as the exercises, your body can handle things like this just fine. In fact, that's the way an athlete should train.

Take a good look at the logs on here and you'll see what I mean. Most of us are doing some kind of full body exercise every time we train, whether that means it's a squat or a deadlift and then some upper body work or what have you.

Remember, your body isn't a collection of parts. It's a unit. And it should be trained like a unit.

I have also seen people with that oppinion, although I do see a bonus to both ways, I dont know which is best.

Bodypart spilts> :is <Full Body Exercise

Hmmm. Maybe after I get my new gym sorted I will try a full body type routine...
