I am thinking of getting me one of these...

Any experience with them?

From elite fiteness there are two models (well three but the other one costs way more)

One for $645+185 US shipping and the other is $795+185 US for shipping.

Nazarath Barbell has a good one too $725 US and it says shipping is 13.95. Must be a mistake!!

Pretty expensive edition to my home gym....

I wonder if there are any of these available from Canada?

I'm sure the 299.99 version doesn't have free shipping to Canada, but that's the one I was thinking of.

I know a lot of guys have cobbled stuff up to add to their squat racks for the home gym stuff, Brent.

And I don't seriously believe that the GHR is the magical device many make it out to be. I'd personally save the cash.

What was the sudden interest in the GHR?

I read somewhere that you can get the same effect with an exercise ball and something to hold your feet steady (if you're looking to be really cost conscious)?

The interest...well..partly cause i have some extra cash allocated for equipment..coupled with the the fact that over the last year several people have recommended it. Mike Miller for one, CJ Murphy from TPS, and a few other guys.

It seems like guys from a power lifting background seem to like these.

IMHO, band pullthroughs will give you the recuperative benefits of the GHR and RDLs have done enough for my hamstrings that I'm not too concerned about it.

If you're looking at it from a posterior chain view, maybe the best thing to do would be to ask some of the big pullers that come from a strongman rather than powerlifting background what their opinions are. Like Provick, Dolan, etc.

We have a GHR at the gym and I'm fairly underwhelmed by it. Granted, I might be using it wrong or something, but that seems like a big investment that might not give you any real benefits.

Could try asking about it on Brian Admunsen's forum on the P&B, too.

Just some thoughts. The GHR might be pure magic for you, but for that kind of cash, I'd look into it a lot. Maybe even getting the dimensions of other guys and looking into having someone weld it up local to prevent shipping charges might be worth the time...

Brent, Ironworks used to have one. I'm sure Pulse could whip one up for you for a lot less than that- don't forget, you'll wind up paying duties and taxes, it'll probably be $2-300 more.
If it's that much cash still, I wouldn't bother. It's not the miracle machine Elite makes it out to be, IMO.
The reverse hyper I have heard good things about, I now 2 guys in the city that own the elite one- however one's a dentist and one's doctor, so...

I think the GHR is an excellent move. I bought a cheap one from yukon fitness a few years ago and then upgraded this year to the elite model. FYI- Elite sells the ghr manufactured by williams strength equipment. I bought mine direct from williams and saved some $. www.fatbars.com

I do all my ab exercises on one as well: situps, russian twists, coreball rotations

Man do not pay more than 300 for one. Elitefts will try to make you believe that unless your model is identical to theirs it sucks. I say BS.

I got mine for 140$ at Yukon Fitness. It works perfectly. I get a good workout with it. No it's not miraculous but it's a fine exercise to add to your reportoire.

The yukon model does the trick for awhile. It's too flimsy though. The foot plate is too small so you have to weld bigger toe plates on to it to perform the movement properly. The pad is the biggest problem, though. After using mine consistently for about a year the pad started shifting forward when I was using it. When the pad shifts you have a thin piece of steel underneath that presses into your quad/knee. Its pretty fucking painful.

Painfull ?

Do you wear gloves when lifting a barbell ? Like to have a pad on the bar when you squat ? Hahaha.

Quit being a pussy. You get the same training effect for a fraction of the cost.

I have a real ghr now and it was worth the extra money. If I was a poor mexican living in canada I might have to settle for the cheap shit, but I'm a prosperous white man.

I have the yukon model and had the same problem with the footplate and the pad moving forward-it actually sliced me open. I had my father weld a huge footplate on the existing plate, then i duct taped a rolled up towel over the edge where my knees hit. It works fine now, althoguh i dont do them that often because they cause my knees to ache no matter what foot position i take.

Quick note. I kept your first remark, Jesse, but not your second. Everyone's had fun and called each other a name now. I see no need for it to disintegrate into more.

I personally feel that a GHR is a waste, but others see much value in it. I left it at that. Others also do not feel it is macho to 'train through' an uncomfortable piece of equipment and gave an opinion based on their experiences. Leave it at that.

Have you checked with Pulse, or are you determined to drop $1000?

I talked to pulse about it in summer. He said they have made one..but would have to make it based on pictures i would find for him..as its not something they make often...not sure if that mean they lost the plans or what.

He sorta said they don't do custom stuff like that very much.

Helmut did help make my fingal fingers....but...i got the feeling they are not into speciality stuff.

Damnit I want to know what Snadden had to say!

Sean- I'm convinced you dont have any love for the GHR because you've never spent any time getting to know it. I did them wrong for a long time and didnt see any results. When I got the pad in the right place they became instantly HARD and EFFECTIVE. My squat has made a pretty nice jump over the past year and I'm convinced the ghr deserves some of the credit.

Having a real heavy duty ghr also makes for nifty core work, like suzanne mentioned. You wouldnt trust the cheap ghr for weighted twists and hammer winds with a heavy med ball. These are great moves to perform on the GHR if you are a THROWER.
