I've been doing snatch pulls instead of power cleans for some variety and I'm thinking about making a height gauge. I don't have the ceiling height to complete a snatch, so high pulls will have to do. I figured I'd stretch a bungee cord in my power rack with some washers on it to jingle when I hit the proper height. It'll keep me from counting reps that aren't pulled high enough. How high should it be? I'm thinking my chin is too high, so maybe upper pec? |

If you have access to some old Milo isssues Bill Starr covered this exact training method in one of his articles. Since the goal of High Pulls is to generate as much pull as possible and to recruit the tarps at the end in order to attain enough height I would hang your washers between the nipples and chin when you are standing erect. If you hit the washers with too much regularity when you start out then raise the height an inch or two. I'm sure you will have fun and experience some nice muscle soreness from pulling explosively. Thanks Brock. It was easy to measure height with power cleans, since I couldn't rack it if I didn't pull high enough, but it's been tougher with snatch pulls. I'll give a height in that range a try, depending on where the holes in my rack end up being. |

Anywhere between the bottom of the pecs to the collar bones is perfect. |

Olympic lifters usually lift the bar to around chest hight .Strongmen lift it a little lower than that .Magnus Ver for example said he used to do them to mid stomach . Either way you have to pull hard and explosively . all the best |

As Hercmet said. Some of the top strongman do both high and low,i know Gary Taylor used to do High pulls to nipple/mid chest area and Low pulls to mid stomach with more weight. |
