Ok, here we go:

Competitive goals for 2006:

Open Stone - 46'
Light Weight for Distance - 72'
Heavy Weight for Distance - 38'
Light Hammer - 120'
Heavy Hammer - 95'
WOB - 15'
Caber - I want this to be one of my strongest events

- retain my Alberta championship title
- compete in a few more big competitions
- try and get ranked in the top 5 in Canada

Some tenative other goals:

DL 600x2
Bench 315 ( a sad, sad goal)
Squat 525
Zercher 405 from the bottom

I know those aren't a lot higher than my current maxes, but my competitive season really plays hell on my lifting PRs...

These are all short-term lifting goals for me. I've learned that setting my sights too far ahead leads to some disappointment.

Pre-Season:
545 dead
405 squat
250 log
Improve events and aggression.

Season:
Place top three in some lightweight contests.
Place top five in Canadian lightweight nationals.
Compete in a Pro/Am lightweight contest.

- Deadlift - 600lbs
- Overhead - 300lbs
- Compete as a lightweight as many times as possible

These are the big ones. I'll give some more short term ones as and when I work them out.

Top goal is to stay healthy. Second to that is to continue to compete in strongman, and to start competing in highland games. I want to try a powerlifting meet and an o-lifting meet as well. For numbers, I'd like to dead 545, squat 405, military bodyweight (currently 250), and clean and jerk three plates.

By christmas 2006 I'd like to:

1. close the CoC#3 and the HG300

2. Pull 90kg on the rolling thunder

3. Squat 220kg (35kg to go)

4. Deadlift 220kg (just over 40kg to go!) - this is gonna be the hardest one to achieve, my deads lag behind so much.

5. Compete at least 5 times and place top 3 in at least one of them!

6. Reach 17stone without a gut B)

7. Log press my bodyweight.

Goals for this year are to load the first two stones (my absolute worst event!!!) at the Ontario's, BP 450#, DL 700#, and SQT 650#. I would also like to consistantly farmers walk 300# for 80ft. I can do 295# for 80ft now with 3 or 4 drops, so I've got a way to go, but have come a long way from last years season. Placing in the top ten at the Ontario's is what I'm shooting for this year.

I guess I should add my goals to this too.

Deadlift: 750 lbs
Log Press: 400 lbs
Farmer's Walk: 400 lbs/hand for 80 ft in 20 seconds
Atlas Stones: Run of 5 w/405 lbs stone for 5th stone

I figure if I can do these, the other events will fall into place.

I would like to get invited to an international show and do well.

I also would like to do a powerlifting meet, strongman meet, olympic meet, and a highland games.

Fuckin' SLAYER!!
Now that I know where my focus is going to be for the next year, I can start by setting some goals.

The first, is to NOT GET SIDETRACKED. Of course, things may arise that are beyond my control, but I am not going to get suckered into doing a strongman comp or something that will take away from my Oly training. If I get bored or frustrated or stuck in a rut, I may change my training for one session just to snap myself out of it, but I am not going to waver on my main agenda- One full year of Oly training, minimum.

Specific goals in the lifts...

Snatch needs the most work. I have a good bottom position and a good pull, but lockouts in the squat position is not up to speed. Right now my best full snatch is 80 kilos, I'd like to see 100kg before the year ends BUT- I'll take any kind of gain, be it in form or less weight than I had planned. Short term I am only going for small 2.5kg increases.

In the Clean & Jerk, my goal is to get my squat clean significantly higher than my power clean. In fact, my coach and another Oly lifter at the gym have effectively banned me from doing power movements until my squat movements have improved significantly. For the clean, I am setting an end-of-2006 goal of 135kg, but again, I'll take any gains that come. If December rolls around and I can't hit 135 I won't hang myself. For the jerk, well, right now, I am good for a 300-lb jerk, so I am not going to be too focused on that. Should my clean improve faster than I am expecting I'll add more jerk work in.

And of course, competitions. I'll have to test my mettle a few times at least in full competition.

Let the fury of the storm commence.

Hello,

I haven't had much time up until now to think about these so here's what i'm thinking now. I'm going to split these goals in two parts. One for the Nationals in May, then the next for years end:

May

Squat - 200kg
Bench - 120kg
Deadlift - 230kg
Total - 550kg

Unequipped at 82.5kg bodyweight.

End of year

Squat - 210kg
Bench - 140kg
Deadlift - 250kg
Total - 600kg

Unequipped in the 90kg class.

That'll do me.

Better late than never, I suppose..

I think last year I set too many training goals which led to not hitting any of them, so this year, I'm going to simplify them as much as possible.

squat 400
push press 300
hang snatch 185

If I hit those 3, then everything else will fall into place nicely, I think.

And yes, Olly, the BW+100 * 10 dips would be in the 'fall into place nicely' category. :azz

Above and beyond that, I think my main goal for 2006 will be consistency. That's the key.

I will carry on with the raw lifting and hopefully hit

400 Bench
500 Squat
600 Deadlift

before the end of the year.

I have two comps in mind for this year.

Biggest thing is to get some major events training going as this is currently non existent.

my goals for '06:

1. Bench 150kg
2. Deadlift 220kg
3. Squat 210kg
4. bodyweight somewhere between 14 and a half and 15 and a half stone
5. perform some kind of conditioning work on a regular basis - heart attacks are rife in my family, and while chicks would dig the scars from a bypass I'm not really up for that.

would also like to clean and press 100kg at some point. Done 95 before so this shouldn't be a big ask...

May

Squat - 200kg
Bench - 120kg
Deadlift - 230kg
Total - 550kg

Unequipped at 82.5kg bodyweight.

A quick update on my May goals.

I did nail that 200 Squat, and although only a 115kg Bench at the Meet. I've gone way past that and gotten 120+kg for multiple singles last week.

Pulled a 220kg at the Meet. And I reckon 230kg or thereabouts is within reach now as I pulled 230kg from a 13" bar height the other day.

So all in all, it's only 5 months in and i'm firing well. Rock on!

Confident about the end of year goals too and I think i'll up that Squat goal to 220kg, to go with the 140kg Bench and 240kg deadlift at either 82.5kg or 90kg. For a nice round total of 600kg.
