Hughes won. Sounds like he dominated the fight too. |

It basically proved that it ain't the same UFC Gracie left. The guys are training for striking, for grappling, for everything. Gracie was trying to wait it out like he used to do and he got stuffed for his troubles. He's still a tough bastard, though. Hughes had an armbar on him that anyone else would have tapped out on and Gracie's expression didn't even change. Not until the punching started anyway. - Sean |

Still tough, definitely. That said, I'm happy to see him -- and the Gracie clan -- taken down a few notches. |

I agree

The ground stuff was very impressive. Gracie still looks like a snake, but Hughes was way, way tougher than he expected, IMO. lots of stunned folks in the bar I was at. |

I thought it was a good fight and for some reason I figured it would turn out the way it did. Matt Hughes was tough as nails and Gracie showed that he was too. At one point it looked like his arm might snap and he did not panic or show pain or fear. The only time he looked concerned was when Hughes was on his back pounding the crap outta his head. Entertaining to say the least. McLifter |

The post fight interview with Matt is on Sherdog.com. For the first time I've seen, he looks shocked at how the match went down. He said Royce was so easy to control (because of the strength difference) that it didn't feel right. He also knew Royce wouldn't tap and he was going to have to break the arm. I thought Royce would put up more of a ground battle, but he's never met anyone with that intensity/skill set before, so I guess he was overwhelmed. GSP/Hughes is next at UFC 63. Prepare to have your mind blown. --------------- |

It still struck me as weird because it's not like Gracie hasn't faced strong guys before (Severn? Kimo?) but I think the difference is Hughes's ground fighting skills are way above any of those guys. Hughes is a freak. |
