So we can ask for the 4-tonnes of water to be left off and will all use the hand over hand rope.

It's also well worth remembering that this is more of a display of strength rather than a competition so although we will try and stick with the 25m etc etc if need be we can shorten it (there are no rules per se), the time isn't an issue (we don't need to do it in less than a minute although some might) nor is the overall weight (otherwise Big Len and his buddies pulling an 80 tonne crane win hands down). Personally I think if 12-13 tonnes with water is too heavy on grass then 8-9 tonnes with the rope isn't.

Finally Alf was the one with the most questions, what ifs and so on and he did the best (esp the last few feet). I'm willing to bet that if we think too much about what it is we are trying to do we'll persuade ourselves it's not possible - in spite of having done it. Worse case is it'll be slower than today.

Me too. Alf asked 'what if it rains' and I'm like rolling my eyes (what a pessimist).

In what might be a strange twist the whole pulling of the tender has become a little more personal for one of the guys. Just behind me in the photo is one of the lads from Gymnation who we all call Scooter (dunno why never asked). Since the pull neither hide nor hair of him has been seen in the gym and I joked he was still resting.

It turns out that his other halfs young daughter from a previous relationship has been very ill. Scooter has been at hospital every day with his girl and one of my neighbours came over today to tell me that it looks like they are switching off the life support machine this evening. She said that Scooter will be calling me and I'm guessing he'll wanna do the very best he can on August 27th.

I'll have a chat with him asap but I'd like him to be the first one to pull the tender. I'd guess it'll be very emotional for him and I'll be jibbing as many lads from the gym etc to be there to offer their support. I'll keep you all updated. Sufficent to say that it was always gonna be for a good cause but now one of our own has reason to do something very special.

Ok I'm gonna copy and link the poster which has just been sent to me. That says 2pm so I'd like the guys there an hour before at 1pm. I think that we can get some great photos with the kids and set up the block (for pushing off on as it'll be on grass) and order of the guys etc. Plus it allows for late-comers and cock-ups.

8 days to go. I'm drumming up interest over on powerliftinguk.com as Justin Hurley seems keen and we managed to persaude another lad, visiting Team Whey Consortium Gym today, to 'have a go'. If we could get 20 that would be awesome and major good publicity for Iron Athletes following the Gregg Valentino shite.

Directions.
Follow the main road into town (indicated on the map mentioned below) and you'll end up near the railway station. Follow the signs for Asda (you'll see as you come into town and also at the main set of lights outside the station it'll be visible in the distance) and pass it to the lights. On your right is GL1 a large sports centre. Turn left at the lights into Barton Street and first right following the road around (Sinope Street being one way at the Barton Street end). You go about 100 yards down that street and just after you pass the old version of Widden School (looks run down) turn left and the road opens up at the end with the gates of the school directly ahead. There is limited no yellow line parking here but it will fill up early. Asda, nearby, only allows 2 hours at a time.

Once at the school through the gates and there's a brick path and having paid your pennies to get in follow the signs to the large field at the rear where the fair is set up.

www.multimap.co.uk ref for address (school is near top right corner of map image)

Alternatively you can meet at our unit (there is some secure off-street parking (5-6 vehicles max), lots of strength equipment, a few tubs of protein... and I can make the tea :D ) before a short walk to the school.

Today is the day if yer a-coming. Meet at mine for 1230 and a cuppa or 1300 at the venue. Bring a couple of quid for the bucket and other stuff. Those who sign the waiver and then take offical part in the pull I have been told will be getting free food...!!

:respect Mike's number one tip for a truck pull DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT PULL ON GRASS. it make it 10 times harder and i mean 10 times it took 4 lads and around 10 kids pushing to get the thing moving on the grass.

We did not want to let the croud down so they moved the truck around the front onto the car park and bingo a peice of piss. Nice pull over 20m no problem i will post up some you tube links later.

Good day was had by all in the end. :respect

I used to have a big car that I pulled on grass and it was harder to pull than a 7.5ton truck on concrete.

Still seems like a good day. Well done everyone

On our forums I said 'do not say I told you so'. <_< God it was unbelievably hard. Our calves cramped, there were four lads, and so we were told kids at the back and sheeeettt too much. On the front everyone had a go - more to follow.

Our best pull was later on. There was this young lad called either Gavin or Kevin (I think Gavin). As you can see in the photo he's got special needs and says 'I wanna go'.

So we let him.

In one photo I'm behind him with one hand on the rope (thus pulling it one handed), TT is just behind me helping and Scooter is out keeping the pulling rope tight. At one point I started to catch him up, bless him, so I call out 'get a move on Gavin I'm right behind ya!'.

He loved it and was well happy.

I have to do something every so often to keep me free gym membership going ha ha. I have a feeling they'll line something else up later on (xmas maybe / hopefully) and they do seem to enjoy it. The lads (Mike, TT, H etc) were great (loads dropped out last minute) and of course we wear our Whey Consortium T-Shirts so that helps in photos and so on.

Cheers. I did think, having had my back to them all so not seeing it, why Scooter (Tony Smith is his real name) ws pulling the rope tight but it's so Gavin feels like he's pulling the engine. He can't see us straining behind and so all he sees is a rope being held up by Scooter. Nice work :D

You should have put the fucker in the harness then Loz.

As a off topic point it just goes to show though that if someone wanted to train for a truck pull they could practice with a heavy car on a field
