English Open Strongwoman 2006 & British Record Challenge – 5th November 2006

English Open Strongwoman
Who will win this year's contest? Anna Rosen of Sweden won in 2004, Gemma Taylor of England won in 2005 – who will take the title in its 3rd year? The contest is open to all competitors, from the UK and Overseas – if you think you are strong enough – then come and have a go!

Deadlift for Reps (130kg, 75 second time limit)

Walk of Pain

Log for Max, 3 attempts.

Farmers Hold (70kg per hand – Who can hang on the longest?)

Carry and Drag. Carry 3x50kg sandbags 10m each and load them in a sack, drag the sack 10m

Prize money to be confirmed.

British Record Challenge
After a discussion on the Strength Discussion Forum it was decided to establish some independent British Strongman records in "Classic" strongman events. These will then be posted online on a web page, and kept updated as they are broken in future contests, regardless of what federation / promoter may have organised the contest. The current "Competition" British Record on the log is held by Dale Norris – 185kg. Will this be broken? Who will set the first British Log Record for the u105kg class?

The other records that we hope to establish at this contest are the British Records for the "Silver Dollar Deadlift", in both the u105kg and Heavyweight classes.

Challenge Events
IFSA Spec log for Max – 3 attempts
Silver Dollar Deadlift for Max – 3 attempts

Should you be interested at taking a shot at either, or both of the record attempts then contact me and come and have a go.

Running Order of Events
Deadlift for Reps – Women
Silver Dollar Deadlift – Record Challenge
Walk of Pain – Women
Log for Max - Women
Farmers Hold – Women (2 at a time, head to head)
--------Break-----------
Rolling Thunder - Record Challenge
Carry & Drag - Women
Log For Max – Record Challenge

This contest will hopefully be filmed and edited and will be on sale as a DVD available to buy directly from me within a couple of weeks of contest. I am also investigating the possiblity of making the event available for download online!

This can be done Colin (by webcast) but with reduced quality to a DVD , it will also mean certain server issues and conection speeds, alternativly you could set up a FTP server (i have one here you can use) if you say wanted to put some sort of charge for the download then that can be done by issuing a password to the FTP Server (on a time limit) and sending it back by email. the quality of a FTP download can remain the same as a DVD.

Just thought of something else but it depends how you intend to distribute the video.

You could just make it available by Bittorent , this is very easy to do but their might be issues if you intend charging for the file , if its just a straight file download then just make a torrent file as is and email it to who ever wants it which will save them having to join whatever torrent website you posted your torrent on and save them from having a mail box full of spam after.
If you wanted to make a fee of some kind then you could zip the file up and password protect it but the torrent website might have issues about that.

Col, a little of topic I know but, will you be putting on any winter comps this year? like the mid winter cup? JonnyMills is picking up his equipment soon and I'll hopefully be going over quite regularly, a comp to work towards would be great.

Also, what sort of numbers do you expect on the silver dollar dead for the 105s? Im not really familiar with what the good guys lift on this.

I'm planning on putting something on around my birthday again (jan 14th), not done anything definate about it yet.

As for the silver dollar DL, for the u105kg guys I'd say 280kg+ will be pretty good, and over 300kg first rate.

I think the "Record Challenges" might turn out to be popular, as apart from the guys close to the record, it gives everyone a chance to set a personal best under contest conditions, so everyone has something to aim at. :)

Can you put me down for the silver dollar 105kg class please Col? My lockout is whats holding back my deadlift so I guess concentrating on that for a while will make me a better strongman anyway.

Plus I need a comp to aim for.

If you need me to send you an entry fee to confirm then pm or mail me your address mate.

Cool - he is very welcome to come and have a go, guest lifters who are not British are welcome to compete. Should he win however he obviously will not hold the British Record however, as he is not British. I will post on the Bole site, and also on the "Treningsforum" today. :)

Egil - The "Walk of Pain" is a milk churn with some sand and gravel in it. The women have 75 seconds to carry this as far as possible. You are allowed to drop it as many times as you like during the time limit. A distance measurement is taken after 75 seconds.

This picture is of Oli Thompson doing the "Walk of Pain" at a contest a couple of years ago. Obviously the weight will be lighter for the women.

Provisional Competitor list (subject to change)

Women
Hanne Bingle (England)
Sera Musgrove (Wales)
Alison Harris (England)
Anne Sonesen (Norway)
Alyson Smith (Wales)
Anki Oberg (Sweden)
Anna Rosen (Sweden)
Josefin Brander (Sweden)
Linda Sharp (England)

u105kg Challenges
Olly Jackson
Scott Reid
Colin Lewis
Ian Douglas
Paul Cater

Heavyweight Challenges
Oli Thompson
Damir Krunic*
Goran Rosen*
Rickard Erlandsson* (Last name?)
Rob Frampton
Can Umarlar*

* Not eligible to set British record as not British, but can still win the prizes.

There are still places available, there are a few more people interested in competing in each class. I will update this list regularly between now and the contest. I'd like a few more men to put their names down for the challenges! Its a chance to set a PB under contest conditions - worth doing!
