DENVER (AP-CP) - Canadian Paul Tracy was involved in another skirmish, this time with Sebastien Bourdais, while teammate A.J. Allmendinger earned his fourth Champ Car World Series victory of the season at the Grand Prix of Denver on Sunday.

Tracy, who was having fuel problems late, was trying to hold off Bourdais heading into the final turn of the race. Bourdais passed the Toronto native, but Tracy locked the brakes and slid into Bourdais and both cars failed to finish.

Bourdais got out of his car and charged after Tracy. He pointed an accusing finger at Tracy, the two exchanged words, Bourdais shoved Tracy and then Bourdais walked away.

Tracy was involved in a shoving match with Alex Tagliani of Lachenaie, Que., after Tracy caused a crash during a July 30 race in San Jose, Calif. Tracy went off the track into a runoff area on lap 52, and then drove the car back onto the track and into the path of Tagliani. Both were knocked out of the race.

Tracy was placed on probation for three races, docked championship points and fined an undisclosed amount of money.

Late in Sunday's race, Tracy's car was acting like it was out of fuel, but he said he'd rather run out than risk losing second place.

Yet he lost it anyway. Bruno Junqueira finished second and rookie Dan Clarke was third.

Despite the crash, Tracy was sixth and Bourdais seventh.

Allmendinger, Tracy's Forsythe Championship Racing teammate, took the lead on lap 47 and pulled away from the field. He moved into second place in the points race behind Bourdais. Justin Wilson, who finished eighth, is third in points.

Allmendinger's average speed of 91.852 was a new track record.

Tracy worked hard to be in contention for second place. Tracy's day appeared over before it really began. He was spun around in Turn 1 by Tagliani to open the race and had to be bumped back onto the course.

And while Tagliani's afternoon was finished, Tracy's car turned out to be no worse for the collision. By using up all 60 seconds of his power-to-pass energy, Tracy worked his way back into the race.

Bourdais had an afternoon he'd rather forget. After setting the track record in Saturday's qualifying - and earning the pole position - Bourdais had tire trouble. He went with the softer Bridgestone red tires and lost ground to the field. After switching to the black tires, Bourdais was back to his old self. He set a race record with a lap time 1:00.314 on lap 90.

It was too late in the race to catch Allmendinger.

Bourdais was attempting to become the first driver to win three straight at the same track since Michael Andretti accomplished the feat in Portland in 1990-92.

They make it sound like Tracy took the guy out of the race when in reality the fucker drove into Tracy.
