Now track athlete Marion Jones has tested positive for EPO. |

She's a sprinter what the hell does she need EPO for? And why does Gaitlan get to keep his would record after testing positive. They stripped Ben Johnson for pretty much every record he set. Just an observation |

Yeah, but Gatlin doesn't have a whole country getting on his case as was Ben Johnson's case. Johnson would've never gotten the extra harsh punishment he got if it wasn't for Canada's focus on his case. |

Doesn't EPO pump up the number of red blood cells in your body, and thus allow for more oxygen to be utilized as a result of more hemoglobin? I can't see how it wouldn't help someone who took part in any athletic event. |

More red blood cells also means thicker blood, average person has a 44-46% red blood cell count, EPO has been known to take RBC count to over 60%, at which point the blood can becomes to thick to be properly pumped throughout your body. |

Sprints are over in <12 seconds. Your body wouldn't even notice the extra O2. That's why endurance athletes use EPO and weightlifters don't. Sprinters are power athletes. And we all knew Marion was dirty long, long before this. - Sean |

I agree

Nah, she's clean, just ask CJ! Why EPO though, I have to agree. That's very odd. |

I'd imagine it would have most of it benifits in her training, where the extra O2 would be of help. Plus, i think she also competes in a number of events, 100, 200, and 400 sprints as well as long jump. |

Hahaha!
I see, I wasn't sure if it would have an effect for sprinters or not. Thanks. |

Even though I would love to join in the laughter, something doesn't sit right with me about this positive test. The thing is, Marion was already involved with the Balco investigation since the beginning of last year. As a result, Marion's performance had suffered from "survelience" in meets and failed to qualify for other big time meets. You can come up with your own "suspicions" from that. ;) The point is, if she is already under investigation by the feds, what would be the point to use now and test positive? To prove she does take drugs? Playing catch me if you can? Something doesn't add up... Daryl |
