You know...mixing up the order like that really does force the boys to put up big performances all the time. No autopilot for any of them. Terry and Darren sound like they're seriously putting foot to ass. - Sean |

I saw on Marunde's site that many are curious as to how Josh Thigpen is doing in the points total. According to what I saw on a Polish site, the standings in group 5 as of today are Wenta 18.5, Toczek 15, Thigpen 9, Haugen 8.5, Samuelsson 8. Its not over, but it looks pretty tough to catch the 2 leaders. The final two events in this group are overhead stones and barrel loading ( Is this the barrel loading squat?) How is Thigpen in these events compared to the Poles? Wenta tied Pudz with a 180 log this year in the Polish championships. I know overhead stones is quite different than other overhead lifts, and there hasn't been much of this specific event for sometime, so maybe hard to make past performance comparisons. And in group 4 I've noticed Dymek is still in 2nd place after his disastrous start, what a valiant effort. How is he is those two same events, since group 4 appears to have the same ones tomorrow? I'd like to see him pull through after being so sick and getting 0 points in the first event. |

With a six point difference going into the last 2 events, I'd bet pretty heavily against any real surprises happening at this point. It's actually looking like they're gonna be a lot of first timers into the final at this point. Still its competition and anything can happen. - Sean |

I'm not sure if you can say Janne's doing well now that he tore a calf. Pity, though. He was putting on a pretty solid performance. Not sure about Darren, but I believe his brute strength is pretty impressive, even without considering his bodyweight. maybe some of the other UK folks know what his big three are? - Sean |

They didn't make it sound really bad. Not sure how he could tell it's a tear instantly, could just be a really bad cramp. Bruising from tears normally appear 2-3 days later. |

Considering what kinds of times and stuff he's putting in, I seriously hope it isn't serious. It's just generally you don't keep going to well after a tear. Hope you're right and it's just a bad strain or something, Jesse. I'd like to see Janne go the distance. - Sean |

They said on Ironmind they didn't know if it was a tear or cramping. |

There was information about Janne's calf in Finnishpower forum. He had injured his calf when trained to this contest in Finland. So it is tear not cramp. I hope that it doesn't affect to his performance in final(if he gets place in final). |

Good line up of finalists. Looks far more interesting than last year.
Great performance by Terry! As predicted, 4 Poles in the final! Probably not what the TV peeps wanted, but hey - it proves the strength in depth there is in the sport in Poland. |

really pleased for terry. great performance from the big man. he has beaten last years runner up hope we dont have a polish 1,2,3. that would not be good for the rest of the world. gota give them credit tho. the polish no what they are doing. wish we could get the same backing they do. GO TERRY!!! |

Terry said he's not there this year just to make up the numbers. He's lost weight, he's fit , strong and I think he's going to be challenging for a podium place this year. |

I know 3 Canadians made it to the finals one year, but have there ever been 4 finalists from one country before in the WSM finals? 4 Poles is amazing, and they all have the potential to do quite well. Wenta's second best time in the Fingals is just one example. It is going to be quite a show to view the prelims when they come out, some titanic battles took place till the last second to get into the final! Much more competitive than is some past years. Congrats to all the finalists! |

2003, Canada had Hugo Girard, Jessen Paulin and Geoff Dolan. Hugo fought hard with IFSA to get a 3rd Canadian that year. They were quite proud to announce it to Geoff at that years Gatineau Air Baloon festival contest. Hugo is going to make a return next year, and I think we will be seeing some very new talent from Canada at WSM within a year or 2. |

Yes, that was the year I was referring to and 3 from Canada. No doubt Hugo will fight back from his injury, as he always does. Which leads me to injuries in general. In this sport, minimizing injuries through the best possible training methods and sports medicine/nutrition is so important. This year's final could've included Hugo, Virtannen, and perhaps Samuelsson, that would've been like old times. (not convinced he would've made it, but it was possible). But some of the old timers are getting pretty beat up, so much mileage. A severe injury kept Pudzian out one year, but other than that he has done exceptionally well in that department, which is one of his keys to consistent success. |

A lot of new faces in the final this year and a big congrats to 'Terrible' Terry Hollands for really kicking it up a notch and taking top spot in his heat! Gotta say that I'm kinda disappointed Sadler didn't make it. Would have been something to see a (basically) u105 make the big show. - Sean |

Yeah, no doubt.. wonder where the points ended up??? Terry Hollands is the real deal. Good luck in the final. As far as Marunde, I know he'll be classy in defeat, but my skin crawls at the excuses his hordes of fans will come up with. I was rooting for Dave, heard the events in his Heat were good ones for him... oh well shit happens. As far as the Poles, there is some top, top notch guys like Szchepanski who are with IFSA who are awesome as well...... I'm really speechless as to how this happened. ------- |

"As far as Marunde, I know he'll be classy in defeat, but my skin crawls at the excuses his hordes of fans will come up with." From Marunde Muscle: "barrel load: raivis wins, terry 2nd, dave 3rd, me 4th. I don't make it to the finals. I stay as alternate. I am not upset. I did what my hammy would allow." From a fan: "Jesse starting the FW may have cost him moving to the finals" Too bad Jessen and Dominic didnt qualify but I'm sure they did Canada proud. Next year!!! |
