In the airport in Seoul on my way home. Most of the heats were very close this year. Final pts: Group 1 Pudz-25 Pope-18.5 A. Haugen-16 Gharaei-16 Paulin-11.5 Don pretty much sealed the deal when he lifted all 4 rocks in the OH medley. Boris was the only other athlete to lift all 4. Mariusz wasn't that close on the 135kg rock. Group 2 Hollands-22.5 Vidzis-21.5 Marunde-20.5 Ostlund-19.5 Gu-4 Vidzis gained 3 pts on Jesse in the last event to beat him. Barrel loading times were Vidzis-1:14, Ostlund-1:24, Hollands-1:26, Jesse-1:28. A lot of guys in the other heats did not finish this event. Group 3 Pfister-21.5 Felix-19 Virtanen-17.5 Elbrus-16 Sadler-16 This was definitely the hardest group in Sanya. Felix will win the deadlift in the final and Phil will do a sub-30 run on the fingers. Janne would have won car walk if he had made it. Phil also set the best time on barrels of any heat at 1:12. Group 4 Tarmo-22 Dymek-20.5 Boris-19 Filiou-16 Nee-11.5 Tarmo dominated this heat start to finish. Dymek dug himself out of an early hole and beat Boris on barrels to determine who would go to the final. Nee and Dominic had a very tough time on rock press and barrel loading which cost them a lot of pts. Group 5 Wenta-25.5 Toczek-24 Thigpen-16 Haugen-11.5 Magnus-8 The polish guys went 1 and 2 in almost every event. Magnus skipped deadlift and then dropped out for rock press and barrel loading. Wenta is the real deal and it would not suprise me at all if he makes the podium in the final. As for me, I don't feel too bad about my performance. Our heat was very close the whole way and it just came down to who made fewer mistakes. |

3 points seperating the top 4 guys in the heat? I'd say it doesn't get a lot tighter than that. Looks like you put on some big performances your own self, Dave. Thanks for the writeup! - Sean |

Thanks for that, Dave. Sounds like you did really well under tough conditions against world-class opponents. |

I agree

Wow, Dominic, Jessen, Dave, Marunde all out. Should be an interesting final.
Aint that the truth? it's a shame too cause the guy kind of gets tarred with that same brush, and it's not his fault. |

Thanks a lot for the updates, Dave! Three points separating four men in your group, that's as tight as it can be. |

Talk about a retarded event. Retard #1: Hey everybody, I got a kick ass idea for an event, let's get the athletes to strip down to their speedo's and run through water with beer kegs. Retard #2: Eugh, dude, this is a strongman contest Retard #1: Ya but you get good shots of the beach and water, it's good for TV. Retard #2: Your right, let's make it an event. |

Well I for one think it's a great event, far far better than the car deadlift. It sure make the standard loading event harder (though favouring the taller guys). |

I know it was done before but it's still retarded. If you want to make a loading event harder, use tougher objects, but fuck... walking through water, anyone 6ft and under is fucked. The farmers walk was too easy too, the times were way too short. Other than that, this is a great looking WSM, the deadlift apparatus was cool, the car walk was cool, the stone pressing is cool but I would have prefered real stones, the barrel tossing was ok. |

If TWI thought that it would get them the audience they would have them shovel lava out of an active volcano, so no surprises there. |

It's not as bad as the time Colin had everyone paint his fence at White Cliffs. |
