That is one awesome log press from Pudz. He's really brought his power up to meet his athleticism. |

Jamie - That's what I plan on doing next year! I've applied to do a course qualifying me to teach English as a foreign language, and I'm hoping to spend a few months in Poland next year. A friend of mine recently spent a year in Poland teaching and he absolutely loved it - He's moved on to Spain now doing the same thing. Back on topic - looking at those results only strengthens my opinion that there will be 4 Polish competitors in the final of WSM this year! |

I should do that. Mariusz is getting fat. Now, start with the "You wouldn't say that to his face". |

I agree

A good friend of mine taught English in Poland for about a year. Just make sure you have a reputable school/boss- he didn't and kind of got shafted. He did make out well taking on private clients though, and wound up marrying a cute Polish girl, so I would expect he'd recommend it. |

Looks like an awesome competiton, some solid weights being moved around too. On the teaching thing, I live with a girl who taught in Spain for a year and made good money, loved every minute of it etc, my ex girlfriend is about to get back from a year in Austria doing the same thing where she hated it for a while but then loved it, again, good pay. Another friend of mine is currently in Japan for a year doing it and ive considered doing it in China. A few themes have run through all of the people Ive spoken too: - the money can be awesome - private tuition is a good way to boost the earnings - teaching someone English is the easiest way to get into someones knickers |

That's awesome, Colin! In 2007? I'd probably be heading out in 2008 if I go. I've also considered Japan, since I can speak and write some of the language, but that really doesn't seem like it'd open as many opportunities for strongman. |

The course I've applied for starts in january and finishes in may. I think I'm going to teach in a language school in Canterbury next summer, then look at going to Poland after that. The experiences you guys have mentioned tally pretty much with what my friend told me. He said his basic wage from the language school paid all his bills, and he had 2-3 private clients in the evenings that paid him big money, allowing him to have some fun.

Peter, I'm really happy you take the time to post and translate things for us. I really like to know what happens in the rest of the world. Reason I wanted to know the yoke distance was to compare myself as I managed to edge Dominic in it at a Quebec cup and his time wasn't far from Mariusz. Hey, I got to have some pride right. |

All I could find was that it was 400 kg. but no distance. If I come across more details on the yoke event I'll post them. |

There was apost on Marunde's site from a guy that was at this show and said Marius came out and did a 185kg log easy-with the crowd cheering him on.This guy will DESTROY everybody at WSM-the rest of the field will be lucky to win 2 events in the final.Static strength-400kg deadlift, over 400lb log-squats with the best of them.If he were American, imagine the press he would get in north america. He is easily in the top 3-4 strongman of ALL TIME. |

I agree Neil. I think the only person from the athletes there who can give Mariusz a little push in the ass will be Pfister. Notice how he isn't nearly as Lean as he used to be. I'm thinking he wants his revenge at the arnold next year and letting his bodyweight bulk up. |

I don't know why, but I've never been a great fan of Pudz, though I really respect his ability. Strange really as I normally back the leaner guys (Ahola, and JPS, though I never liked MVM, though he was arguably the best ever). But there's simply no way that Mariuz can beat Savikas or Virastuk at the Arnold, hey if the events are the same as last year you just as well give Savikas the title now. |

I meant no disrespect to any other guys at WSM.I agree about Pfister-he is the best american in my opinion-really entertaining-what I found funny though is an event like lighter farmer's he used to be top 2-3 in world at this-last year in IFSA with the 125kg farmer's he seemed noticebly slower-could have just been the show. But anyways I think he will be in second. Now about he ARNOLD ,If they changed some of the events to Heavy stones and say HEAVY power stairs(I know they won't)I think Mariusz would win.I really like the Arnold but I think they need to change some of the events around to more tradional strongman events-eg.Stones.Keep everything super heavy though.I'm telling you Mariusz would be in the top 3 for sure. |

Why should the arnold strongman be changed to tradtional events? Why does it have to be like all the other competitions? IMHO it should stay the way it is, its a unique contest. |

Agree 100%... If they don't change the events, then it's the Zydrunas show all over again. Mariusz though is not a weak strongman, he would have been 3rd had it not been for the dumbell. There should be stones and other traditional events. Anyone who thinks powerstairs are not a strength test, try putting 500lbs blocks on 17" high stairs and let me know what you think afterwards. The stones are a traditional test of strength too. Heck, you can't be called strong if you don't have a good grip, why not some more gripping stuff, which Zydrunas has more trouble with. Why not a Log press for Max would be great. I could see Mariusz getting 420lbs out of it if he prepared for the Arnold. |
