Big Matt Parkes from Victoria, BC will be representing Canada there! He's an awesome guy with a tonne of potential, and I think this contest will be an excellent experience for him.

Well, let's wait and see how it's organized. The Ukrainian Fed. site states that some athletes (Savickas and Pedan) will not have to go through qualifying, but the rest will have to. Time will tell if IFSA will organize a clean event or BS politics will be part of it.

I got no problem with them letting Big Z and some of the other top guys go straight to the finals. I'm not sure why Pedan would get a bye though. Big Z, Koyklev and Vasil yes, but Pedan?

That's the question the Ukrainians were asking, too. Providing that their info is accurate, it doesn't make sense to have Pedan go directly to the final but not Koklyaev. We'll find out soon enough.

As they announced after my last contest in Lithuania, Z gets a pass since he is the returning champ and Pedan gets one because he "won" the USS series. He never won a contest but he accumulated the most points since he was one of the few that did every show the USS produced. I'm not too sure that Pedan going straight through will fly with many people so it may not happen.
They were discussing the possibility of the top 3 from last year going straight through but Vasyl wouldn't have it. He said that if other men had to fight their way to the final then he wanted to be just as tired as them going into the final. Now that's a true badass!!!

the IFSA shows are still being aired quite frequently on OLN (which recently changed its name to VS.). Strongman will be on for an hour today at 3 central time (4 east coast) and again tomorrow at 2 (I think).

Everyone will have to go through qualifying heats.
I´ve heard that it´s more likely to be nov 12-19 rather then 5-12
Nothing confirmed yet though.

So IFSA is going back to the old format of heats then final, instead of the 18 man final last year?

Will Oli be competing for the UK?

IFSA Strongman is pleased to announce that the 2006 IFSA Strongman World Championship Qualifiers and Finals will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland November 18-25, 2006. It is only fitting that the 24 Strongest Men in the World descend upon Iceland to contest the 2006 IFSA Strongman World Championships for the Jon Pall Sigmarsson Memorial Trophy as this is the land of Vikings that has spawned some of History's bravest and strongest warriors. A land that has produced Jon Pall Sigmarsson and Magnus Ver Magnusson who have each won four world titles - a total that no other country has come close to matching. Indeed, the Strongmen are coming home…for good sport and to honour the heritage of Iceland.
