It's only gay if you smile during the reach-around.
I may be a bit harsh on this but Caber Mcjock may be correct and is probably the only person I MAY have to agree with. There are NO Canadians or Americans that could man handle all of those weights. Granted, tire - yes, yoke (possibly a few in Canada Brent Hamm, Darrell Crouse, Jon Gordon and a couple others), truck pull -yes, but not in the farmer's or the log/viking press.

Maybe the Europeans are in fact quite a bit ahead of us....and if they can man-handle those types of weights, no North American team of athletes will be threatening them on the World scale soon. Hopefully, that will change, but not for now.

I disagree....

I farmer walked with 365/hand last week (only 20' but that was all i was trying to do). I could could probably got 80' with 365.

Pretty sure i could get reps on the viking press as well.

And the top US 105 guys would not have any problems. They are really good.

A couple of u105kg guys I've trained with have gone 35m with a turn with 150kg per hand farmers walk, and gone over 3 laps with a very heavy conan's wheel, And these guys are not international standard yet. So I have no doubt at all that there will be some excellent performances by the athletes in this contest.

I think the misconception you have Dennis, is that there is a gulf in strength between u105kg guys and heavyweights. Sure on some events, like truck pull and the overhead stuff, being heavier helps. But on things like stones, farmers walk, and conan's wheel I really dont think there is much of a gap at all between the very best u105kg competitors and the heavyweights.

If you look at darren sadler as an example, Whilst he's now heavier than 105 he was still putting up some big numbers. At 17.5stone he almost beat Oli Thompson in the log for reps at Britains strongest man this year!

I dont think i would be close to the top of that comp but there is nothing there that really intimidates me. I would rather the comp be heavy like this one. It leaves no room for a winner in an event to smash out 50reps in anything just for the fun of it. I say, bring it on!

I've gotta say Steve (STAN63) trains with those sort of weights on a regular basis it's just a shame they haven't invited any Brits.

There is a vacancy on the international scene for a British u105kg competitor now Saddler has decided to compete as a heavyweight. I think there are a couple of lads, Steve Stanislaus being one of them, who could step up and fill the gap Saddler has left.

I'm really looking forward to the u105kg Britian's down in Portsmouth - I can see it being a really hard-fought, close, contest. :)

Many of you guys are misinterpreting what I am saying. First off, the only thing that I know I would have difficulty with is the viking press where I might get one rep with and the yoke, mind you, if I trained for the yoke then I might be good at it....dunno.. The tire? I train with a 1000lb tire and am quick with it. The conan's wheel, I don't know how I'd do with it but would still manage to walk with it a ways.
The thing what a lot of you are understanding is that I'm saying the competition needs to prortional to the athlete, yes the 105's are comparable to the heavies in events like conan's and the stones but no chance in hell in lifts like the log, truck pull or a heavy yoke.
The weights need to be adjusted.

The thing I generally find with all contests is if you set the weights, the athletes will rise to the occassion.

I bet the results from this competition surprise you, Dennis.

Fortey (u105kg athlete)used to be able to run 25m with a pair of 150kg farmers and i'm sure young Mr Stanislaus can too.

Thanks Andy, good to see you back training hard and competing again. I can't see why anyone would have a problem with the weights being heavy (which they are, no doubt about that!) The fact is that all the athletes are roughly the same weight so it comes down to who is the strongest man as opposed to the fittest man as is the case in some competitions. If the winner of the farmers is decided by who carries them the furthest as opposed to who completes the course the quickest - so be it. I'm sure the crowd would enjoy and appreciate it much more than if the whole field were split by fractions of a second.

Thanks Steve ,i'm glad to be back.It would be great to see some of you more deserving UK U105kg boys competing on the international circuit. We've a few good lads now ,yourself,Colin Lewis and also Scott Reid.I don't think anyones quite up to Saddlers standard but are getting damn close.

It's being put in to these big , heavy comps that push the lads to new levels. i'm sure if Steve, for example, had been given an invite he would have risen well to the challenge.

As a crappy Canadian 105, I'm pretty sure I would have been able to handle those farmer's and the tire. It all depends on the implements. I think I'd even get a showing on the Conan's, and even the yoke if I was to get my head out of my ass, unlike at the Canadian's. Wouldn't be competitive, of course, but I'd still be doing something with them. ;)
