Pakistan's Strongest Man
|
Well I'm back from my Bench press meet. I was 295lbs the week before but carbed up during the week and came in at 301lbs. So I lifted in the Junior 308's. Everyone there but me had a double ply open back Inzer Rage X. I had a single ply vanilla Titan fury. The shirt was given to me by Chris Yantha, the CPU national deadlift record holder. I definatly owe him one for that. Haha. When we were warming up it was amazing to see people struggle with 405 on a raw bench only to smoke 550 later with their uber shirts. Anyhow, during my warmup, I felt awesome, I smoked 405 raw and easily had another 50lbs in my raw bench that day. Maybe more. I put my shirt on and opened with 455. Wanted to play it safe and it was easy. I then went to 500 and smoked the shit out of that one too. 500lbs bench video Then I saw the CPA junior record was 522. So I took 525 and got that one easily too. The video unfortunatly is partly blocked by Hugo who was all excited for me. 525lbs video Then I took a 4th attempt at 550 and got really close, just need to lock my damn arms but I think I was tired. Maybe if I jumped right to 550 after the 500 I would have gotten it... dunno 550lbs missed Was good fun, one big guy did 700lbs and he had the muscularity and thickness of a pro bodybuilder, very impressive physique. The competition was held in a very popular restaurant chain in Quebec called "La cage au sport" or The Sports Cage. There were plasma TV's all over showing our lifts and we had 300 people cheering us on. Hugo got the chrome calibrated plates just like at the arnold and organized cash prizes which no one else has really managed to do in Canada. Anyhow, I got a record so I'm happy, Hugo's putting on another invitational meet in May but it will be full powerlifting meet, so with squat and deads too. Unfortunatly I turn 24 in april so I won't be a junior anymore. I vowed I'd do over 600 in may though. |

That 500 didn't even count as a warmup, Jesse. Freakin candy. And the 525 didn't look much harder. Nice work, man! - Sean |

Wasn't that Hugo's junior record that you broke? If so, that was one of your goals from a few years ago, IIRC...awesome. |

No Hugo's record was already broken in the superheavies, it's stands at like 605 or something. Honestly if I had a better shirt and more preperation time I could of done 600. No matter though, I'll just have to snag Hugo's Open records instead. |

Forgot to mention at the end, Hugo grabbed the inch and pressed it for 20 reps, 10 per hand and he had a lot of room left with this right. An unofficial world record. |

Oh and I'm not saying I'll take Hugo's records out of arrogance, I have no doubt that he could do a boatload more if he got back into powerlifting, but in my opinion, I'm on the right track if I follow his footsteps. |

Ya I think my triceps were tired after the other 3 lifts. I wonder had I jumped the 525 and gone to 550 if it would have gone but I didn't want to play too risky. |

Nice benching Jesse. The 500 looked like speed work. Nice job on the others. I didn't even realize you were training for powerlifting now. You training all the lifts to do the full meet? |

Well strongman comes first for me but raising my powerlifts does help me a lot with strongman. Hugo is getting into organizing some powerlifting meets and he's putting on a full 3 lift meet in May. I was supposed to do it last year, and would have done very good as a Junior, but I turn 24 in April so I won't be a junior anymore. Unfortunatly I'll have to compete in the open category. Hopefully I can do 800+, 600, 750 or so. |

Very impressive benching-sometimes it's better to compete on short notice-gives a person no time to overthink everything-just compete.Congrats on the record.I think Hugo Girard should be banned from the Thomas inch dumbell-he's abusing that poor bastard.Has he ever tried a millenium dumbell?Great stuff Jesse. |

500 was total pie. You're right, with a better shirt and practice, 600 will be routine. Congrats. Hugo needs a bigger dumbell. Damn. ------------ |
