Nick, Nicole and BSM by Randall J. Strossen, Ph.D. | ©2006 IronMind![]() Nick McKinless recently added another feather to his cap when won the Britain’s Strongest Man Contest under105 kg. McKinless is no stranger to big performances, and when strength historian David Webster witnessed Nick attack the world-famous Dinnie Stones, he had a few words of note. “The efforts of young Nick McKinless of Cheltenham were most impressive. A very athletic-looking powerlifter, 6’1” and a little over 200 lb., he had a serious, determined approach . . . ” reported Webster. Celebrating his successful, McKinless “then threw a lovely back somersault!” Webster wrote. For the complete story, check the September 1998 issue of MILO. Nick has gone on to move to Australia and and among his accomplishments, he became a stunt man. “I am currently working on The Golden Compass (Nicole Kidman and Danial Craig) in London,” Nick told IronMind. |

Excellent Stuff! I'd like to try the Dinnie Stones one day, and the Inver Stone. I just realised something... 2 of the top 3 at the u105kg BSM were reserves I put in at the last minute! Goes to show the strength in depth in the u105kg class now. The u105kg class is getting VERY competitive.

Cool.Great for Nick and for U105s BSM comp to be heard about world wide.Nick and Steve might actually get to go on to international comps if there is more exposure about the U105 Brits.
I said that to my missus when we were there.Dam you Anderson :P

Hope so Andy (not holding my breath on that one), but a few more 105 comps added to the national calender wouldn't be a bad thing either. This year there was only White Cliffs, one qualifier and two finals unless I'm mistaken ? |

Steve this was my point in an earlier thread. We can no longer just leave this to chance to see who might put on what and what they might call the comp. With a proper structure and qualification this BSM u105kg title could be a real stepping stone to international comps. I want to see about putting in place a structure to make this happen, To make this title the crown jewel on the u105 calender. It just needs the support. |

Just to add a bit more; We are fast appoaching 2007 and does anyone really have any idea what the structure and build up to next years comp will be? Where will it be? who will stage it? It really is not good enough that a national title that should lead to international competition is left to chance. |

I agree with you on that point Tom but unless there are enough 105 comps for the athletes to do in the first place how can they gain the necessay experience to keep improving. Can't do novices and would have to a hard time trying to be competitive in an open comp which is of no real comparison because the preparation is totally different with there being no dieting or pressure to make the weight involved. Training throughout 12 months to do only 4 comps is not enough. Too many good athletes will be lost from the sport unless there is a meaningful structure for the 105's |

Colt who?

Yeah...Randy and I talk from time to time and he's a great ambassador for all strength sports. I figured a little exposure for the 105kg British would be a good thing for us 'little' guys. Nick |
