Want to know who is the most fucked up guy or gal here. Just for fun. I'll start 2001 - Epicondilitis of my right elbow. Was 17 (and stupid) when it happened. Probably from doing 1rm max tricep extensions. To this day my pinky and ring fingers on my right hand occasionally go numb from inflamation crushing the ulna nerve. Luckily it has gotten much less frequent as time goes by. 2002 - Sacro illiac injury from deadlifting. Poor form I and trying to max too frequently. Again I was young and stupid. I couldn't deadlift for the rest of the season and didn't manage to lift any cars throughout the year. This always flares back up if I slack on abdominal training. 2003 - No injuries (did the fewest contests that year... could it be why?) 2004 - Displaced a vertabrae while doing olympic squats for high reps... lucky it popped back into place. Left me lying on the floor for two weeks. My sciatic nerve was probably crushed by inflammation because my left leg would occasionally give out while walking for a few weeks. It was a light weight so I didn't give it the respect and attention it deserved and rounded my back. 2005 - Tore a muscle in the upper left back due to a poor set-up on a hercules hold which caused my left arm to jerk. Seriously affected my placing as I couldn't do my opener on the log the following day. Could be the rotator cuff... not quite sure. Upper back and left tricep was black and blue. Couldn't raise arm up to head for two weeks. 2006 - Tore all three calf muscles (soleus, Gastroc and Plantaris) while flipping a tire in training. Wasn't properly warmed up and probably not hydrated well enough either. In hindsight, I felt a small pop in that calf while training deadlift a few months before. It was not painfull but I should of had it checked anyways. This was my first real bad injury and I missed 3 contests and was in crutches for awhile too. 2007 - Ruptured the proximal tendon of the biceps brachii's long head on my left arm. Happened while lifting the third atlas stone at a contest. In hindsight, it was probably due to a few factors: 1) Had bad shoulder pain that started the week before due to incline benching and seated pressing. Figured it was nothing serious so I competed anyways. The tendon was probably inflamed. 2) Was the second contest literally back to back, competed thursday-friday and was competing again for a saturday-sunday. Injury happened on the last event of saturday. Never again will I agree to doing something like that. |

Did you even see who this sub-forum is named after? Partial Torn left Tri (96?) Partial left Bi tear (97) Right Groin tear (98) Partial Right Bicep tear (99) Left Hamstring partial rupture (2000) Right quad partial tear (01) Partial herniated lumbar disc (02) 2 bulging cervical discs (03) Left Achilles rupture (03) Right pec tear (04) Right bicep tear (04) Of all this, the discs are the most enduring and problematic. I'd have to say the groin tear was the most painful. I'm pretty sure I left something out too. |

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Jeff wins. Patella ligament injury - '01? '02? which lead to severe imbalance in the other knee a year later. 7 months of rehab to fix that. I think a bulged disc this year, which lead to a drop foot due to nerve impingement. A laundry list of tendonitus, etc. I'm a mess but haven't torn anything yet. - Sean |

An Incomplete List of McLifter’s injuries: 1978 – 79 Blown left knee because Phys Ed coach suggested running 1500m at an Indoor Track Meet in Steinbach for “conditioning”. Drove myself there, competed in second slowest heat and was determined not to finish last (I didn’t). When I tried to stand up after I caught my breath I fell over. Had to walk through three foot snow drifts after driving home which really killed the knee. Pay attention kids this one is like a boomerang. I never received medical attention for this. Start Powerlifting in mid eighties. It was the usual stuff, learning to lift by taking direction from others in the gym. Couldn’t figure out why I was limping for almost a week after squat sessions (which consisted of going to heavy sets of five). Finally the memory kicks in and I realize that the ten year old injury mentioned above was bothering me. RESULT: I quit squatting for six years. Also could not make progress on the Benchpress due to alternating shoulder injuries. At one point during the mid – late eighties I couldn’t raise my arms up to comb my hair! Yes! McLifter had hair (on the head) back then. Fast Forward to 1994 - 95 when after reading the Louis Simmons’s articles in Powerlifting USA, I begin to try Box Squatting. Much to my delight, there is no joint pain and the Squat goes through the roof! Within a year I am squatting over 600! Now the injuries start again. There were several knee injuries where I had to rehab extensively. I was feeling feisty one day and worked up to a 500 Deadlift without a belt. That tweaked the low back on the right side and led to sciatica for quite some time. A Partially Torn right calf muscle in 2000 at the Folklorama Games was the result of an enthusiastic attempt to beat Caber in the Farmer’s Walk. This was days before we left for Scotland. I Spent the next two weeks limping around the Highlands. 2002 or 2003 partially tore the Plantar Fascia on the left foot. Subsequent X-rays show that there are ocelots growing on the navicular bone and other calcification. It is almost always sore or aching. 2005 Left inguinal tendon pops just days before the CPU Nationals. I lift anyway and damage the right knee squatting 275kg. I drag my leg off the platform and vow to take it easy for the remainder of the year. 2006 - Summer – Dog broadsides me while on a walk (My 100# American Bulldog and my friend’s 80# Shepard together). Both playing and running full tilt hit me on the left knee popping the MCL. Probably a partial tear because it healed fast but it popped very loudly and I screamed like a girl when it happened. Full brace for a couple of weeks. More Rehab! 2006 – Pulled right hamstring at the Renaissance Festival doing the Caber. 2007 – tweaked the left wrist while benching. I wrapped it for continued training. June 2007 - tear some muscles (fascia) on left side of hip/glute area while deadlifting at the "Comeback" powerlifting contest. Consensus is medial glute insertion. Numerous vehicular rear endings that have contributed to ongoing whiplash and neck problems. Chronic headaches from over tight muscles on right side of neck/trap area. This one just keeps on keeping on. Who knows what I have forgotten about??? McLifter

The doc told me the 5th one is free. |
