Lat & Groin - Chronic Injuries

Just tossing these up here for anybody who might have experience with them, I know Jesse had a lat tear a while back.

I've been plagued by a few chronic injuries lately - I have had problems with my left groin on and off for almost 10 months now. It went from no squatting for a while to a big squat PB (after several physio sessions) and then went again a few weeks after my first comp (powerlifting).

I think it probably went again as a result of being roped into playing cricket the day before the comp and being stupid enough to bowl... something my body hadn't done for about 23 kilos!! With the comp the next day I think it all hit too hard - after my next squat session I woke up and it was strained again (when it goes I limp and bringing leg up is very restricted). One of the hard things about the injury is that I can squat fine etc. but then could just wake up the next day with it injured - it goes overnight.

Anyway, I've recently started doing some single leg work (dumbell split squat, single leg rdl) and just started doing sled work (had it about a week now) - doing some abduction, adduction, side drags as well as all the other stuff. I am still getting physio on it and I do feel it's improving - but I want to know if I'm missing anything to bulletproof it.

I'm working hard on abs and stretching (hip flexors especially) - I know pelvic tilt has been an issue for me in the past. I squat with a slightly wider than shoulder width stance (Video). Any thoughts are welcome.

... Onto my lat! I honestly couldn't say how it happened, it came out of nowhere a few days after a gym session in Christmas, but I have a small tear according to the physio - it's right where it connects to shoulder and can cause quite a lot of discomfort, when it's really bad it seems to pinch a nerve - fortunately it hasn't been like that in a while but it really isn't getting much better. There's a load of scar tissue in there and I can't do any lat work (even empty bar) without it feeling worse - so I'm not sure how good the principle of pumping blood into it is.

I haven't done any direct lat work since February now or something ridiculous - I was able to do face pulls for quite a while but they don't feel great now either. Obviously I don't want to pull shoulders forwards so it's a bit of a dilemma.

Rest doesn't seem to help much.

In terms of diet, I try to take in a lot of water and supplement with magnesium, multi-vit, cod liver, zinc, vit c, glucosamine chondritin.

I always do a dynamic warm-up and static stretch most days after work-outs or later on, don't train to failure and would like to think my form is ok on everything.

I have a foam roller and use that about once a week at the minute, focus on IT bands particularly and thoracic spine.

Any ideas very welcome! Cheers.

I called my injury a lat tear but I now think it was a small rotator cuff tear. I never got it fully diagnosed but it went away in two weeks, despire my entire tricep being black and blue.

The injury happed on the hercules hold. I had a poor setup and my left arm jerked when the cars took the foot off the break.

My symptoms were not being able to fully raise my arm over my head. I did some light high rep lat pulldowns and rotator cuff work and it went away pretty quickly.
