Hey guys, here is my report from my first worlds. I left from Chicago O'hare airport on Sept. 7th. Tom McClure and Derek Poundstone were on my flight. We flew for 14 hours to Tokyo, Japan. It was a great flight. The stewardess really made the flight nice for us. She brought us 1-liter bottles of water and extra sandwiches every couple of hours. After we landed in Japan, we had a 2 hour layover and then a 2 hour flight to Seoul. Once we got there we found out we had a 3-4 hours on a bus to Geumsan, Korea. We got in and were in an ok hotel. The food was ok and the rooms were ok as well. We had a couple of days to relax before competition. Day 1: I had drawn Andrus Murumets, Van Hatfield, and Nick Best in my heat. All of them are outstanding strongman, so I knew I was in for a long contest. Arm over Arm: Everyone in the pre-lims didn't finish this. It was very, very heavy. The other 3 in my heat had the top 3 results and I was 5 or 6 overall out of the 16 who had to do it. I was happy about this result. Yoke Walk: 420k for 30m I was disappointed with this result even though it wasn't that bad. I was thrown off on my grip of the yoke so I was thinking the whole race. This is bad. I had 2 drops and still did it in about 42 seconds. I have done much better in training, so I know I'll do better next time. Block loading: I was ok with this result. I failed on the last block. I was fast on the first 3 and just ran out of gas. I know what to add to fix this in my training. Day 2: 125k log press for reps: I was ready to do well on this event. It wasn't meant to be. The handles are heavily knurled and I didn't think anything about it. On rep 5 or 6 I felt my left hand hurt. I did the 6th and asked Dougie for time. I had 20 seconds left so I thought I'd be able to do 3 more. I looked at my hand and saw that it was tore up bad. I passed the rest of the reps as I knew I still had farmer's to go. As I get into better shape and get stronger, I will challenge for this world record. Shield/farmers: I picked the shield and got a little bit off course. I made the 30m easily, but was slow. I couldn't pick the farmer's due to my hand. Overall I was very happy with my performance. I knew going into it that I was going to learn alot and I did. I will be much better next season because of it. Watching the final live was an eye opening experience. Those guys are exceptionally strong. It was great. Thanks for all of the support guys!!!! |

Just noticed this
I hope you guys weren't all sitting on the same side of the plane. Slight weight imbalance. :peace |

I'd much rather have them all on one side of the plane than have all of them toward the front. In my book, flying in circles is preferrable to a nose dive. |
