No - Zydrunas Savickas did not say that, at least not to IronMind®, but let’s face it: With his string of wins, the Arnold strongman contest seems like pretty comfortable territory for the man who once told Randall Strossen, “Why squat if you can’t do 400 kg?”

Zydrunas Savickas seems invincible at the Arnold, but will he win the strongman contest yet again? A lot of people think he will, but however it ends up, it should be quite a contest.

For a preview of what to expect, IronMind® invited IFSA managing director Christian Fennell to cast his vote, and he’s calling for IFSA to sweep the podium.

”1, 2 and 3 . . . I think you have to give Big Z [Zydrunas Savickas] the advantage as this event is definitely his playground,” Fennell told IronMind®, “as he has proven over the last five years. However, Vasyl [Virastyuk] is hungrier than I have ever seen him and he is definitely one guy you don't want to come up against when he is in peak shape, mad and hungry.” Fennell continued. “As for Misha [Mikael Koklyaev], I know he is tired of being the IFSA Strongman bridesmaid, so pick your order, but it is these three again on the Arnold's 2008 podium.”

”4, 5 and 6: Bennie [Benedikt Magnusson] will be the big surprise here, cracking this group of three, but the battle will be between [Andrus] Murumets and DP [Derek Poundstone], two very explosive and powerful guys who are without a doubt champions in waiting.”

”After six,” Fennell said, “well, who ever remembers anyway.”

Whoever is your pick, remember this: The 2008 Arnold Sports Festival is February 29 - March 2 . . . see you there!

He doesn't ever get bored with saying shit like this does he??

Only 2 non-IFSA guys in the line-up and he's still not letting off!!

It seems to me that he is the only person that actually gives a shit!!

I'm not surprised he came out with those comments, wouldn't expect anything else.

I guess he's a bigger fool than I thought he was, because only a fool would write of Hollands & Pfister's chances of making the top 6 in any contest.

Once more Mr ironmind succeeds in his goal here in life! Keeping the bullshit alive!
I would make the same predictions about top 3 as Mr. Fennel...but of cource it is not carved in rock that it will be so...it does not mean that I look at the lable IFSA or not when I make predictions. This year you have 10 very good competitors for the Arnolds!
If people want to lable people then I think that Hollands is the best TWI reprensentative for Arnolds!

BIGMOL

This Fennel guy is a cock, Randi is a cock, ifsa management are cocks.

:azz

Ironmind think they aer some sort of tabloid paper I think. They shouldn't give comments like this the time of day. If Fennell actually concentrated on keeping his mouth shut, getting on with his job, and trying to make strongman a better sport we could all understand. IFSA are running out of ideas/Monkey/athletes and competitions, they are just plain spiteful and bitter as they have nothing better to do.

If he put his Monkey where his mouth was then Fortissmus would have IFSA athletes and they wouldn't have pulled out.

Lets face it more and more IFSA are flying the nest. Have they got much left to offer, NO. The only thing they do have is 3 athletes capable of finishing on a podium at the ARNOLDS. Lets face it, its a very technical competition, VERY heavy so its odds on that a member of the previous years competition will do much better than the year before. I doubt anyone will beat Big Z again.

Terry - just go show them the monster you are. The pressing events may not be your best events, but go get the best out of them. Go smash some of the records YOKE & FRAME kick ass on the Deadlift and stones and enjoy it mate. Use these comments to inspire your training.

Remember if you get the chance to meet Fennell make sure you give him one hell of a hand shake when you introduce yourself.

Ironmind continues its saga of wonderful tabloid crap. They want people to discuss over nothing.
The article in general and Fennell's statements in particular are presented in a way as to arouse polemic.
This has several intentions, as one can see analyzing Ironmind's news history and its aparent positions towards the several organizations.

The importance of the Arnold contest should not be underestimated; it is, at least compared to other formats, a fairly good measure of who the strongest really is. And it is an opportunity to watch athletes from different federations compete against each other.
It does not matter what suits who. You have a contest, you go to that contest, and you put up or shut up. No excuses. This is strongman.
Personally, I try not to look at federations, but at athletes; that said, I think that IFSA athletes are stronger in the Arnold format - as a group - and will dominate the competition; CCCP will probably take the top 3, maybe the top 4 or 5. Pekanov is in good shape.

Well, if Zydrunas bombs the Timber Carry again, then the contest is open for anyone who can put in a good consistent performance. Last year he gave up 5 pts in this event and then made them up throughout the remaining events. If Vasyl would have been better in the DL and Stone, he would have won. That's why I'm curious about Vasyl's shape and strength. He has got to know what he needs to improve, the question is whether or not he was able to during these past 4 or 5 months. I mean his DL was I think 865 versus Zydrunas's 1016. Plus with Benni, Pekanov, Siders, Hollands, Derek in the mix, he is gonna lose a lot of points if his DL stays in the 800s.

<--------- did I mention this guy is creepy?

:sheep

Win the Timber
Stay top three in the rest of events
Win the Arnold.
(assuming Z bombs the timber)

if Z smokes the Timber, then hold on for dear life and fight for his scraps....lol

What do you all think? Who is the most well rounded athlete going into the Arnold besides Zydrunas? Probably Mikhail, last year he hurt his quadricep and pec I think so his performance was muted, this year he is a better bet then Vasyl IMO.

Ronnie Coleman Arnold 2009!!! Let's start the petition now!! Time to get a bodybuilder into the mix!

Someone posted on the BB.com PL/SM forum that Siders just hit a 1060 mid-shin (Arnold height) deadlift, and did 405 5x5 on the incline press.
I had heard that his pressing and DL were going to be strong, but this is crazy!
Benni hit a 992, Terry hit 960, Derek hit 855, Mikhail hit 880, Pekanov hit 996....gonna be a dramatic DL contest going on after the Dumbbell event!!
