just found this:

The Southern qualifiers for BSM 2008 is provisionally scheduled for Saturday 3rd May, 2008 12noon at the Fenn Bell Pub, St Mary Hoo, Isle of Grain, Rochester, Kent near Allhallows (same place as last year.)

This has to be confirmed I will post when definate.

Events are (again unconfirmed dl and log might be heavier!)

Deadlift for reps 250kg
Log lift for reps 115kg

anyone failing to do 1 rep on the first 2 events disqualified.

130kg Farmers & Tyre flip,
Skip hold
Loading race medley log, stones, barrels

1st and 2nd place guaranteed for BSM finals.

Why have it heavier?

Makes sense to have it at a similar weight to that which'll be used in BSM. And as that was 115kgs (I believe).

It'd be stupid to have a 125kg log for the qualifiers and only a 115 in the finals!

I hope that they're not going to make the Britain's too light-it's strongman not men's fitness! It get's so boring watching half the field get into double figures with a 115kg log that they only have to clean once. It seems that TWI want to turn everything into a race so that it is "exciting for the crowd", but it seems ridiculous when they use weights that half of "the crowd" could probably get a couple of reps with. We need events that will separate the men from the boys, but that seems to have gone out of fashion. I think the Britain's should be using 130kg for reps in the log 300kg for reps in the deadlift, 140kg per hand in the farmers, 280kg for reps in the squat and stones up to at least 180kg. These are minimum figures otherwise all the local events are much heavier which is ridiculous.

Thank god for the Arnold's being true to the strongman name-half of the other contests seem to be more like gameshows with their double points last event gimmicks and lighter weights.

Yep, you've hit the nail on the head there. Hopefully they'll see sense, but I wouldn't bet on it. Seeing terry with the farmers last year it was clear they need to be heavier. He look'd like he was just carrying his shopping bag around, way too light.

I agreed that BSM should up their weights, but until they do it would be stupid to have heavier qualifiers than the final. It's a fairly simple concept really.

Or do you want the kiddy version with big letters and lots of pictures :P

Qualifiers should in my view be either done using the same weights or slightly lighter weights than what'll be used in the next round. The UKSC was a good example of this last year with (i believe and may be worng) 120-125kg logs and 260-280 deads in the qualifiers and 130kg log and 300kg dead in the englands final.
