Elite strongman promotions

Elite strongmen promotions have being asked to run the North of England qualifier for TWI British Strongest Man TV finals. The TV finals has always being a part of the Xmas TV program on channel 5. Elite strongman are very pleased to have the chance to find the British strongest man champion 2008, hopefully going onto the worlds strongest man finals 2008. We are hopeing for the local press to help the profile of strongman in the North East. The north east has had a few competitors going the the worlds strongest man finals in the pass, for example Steve Brooks (Spennymoor) Eddy Ellwood (Hartlepool) Mark Westaby (York)

Please find below information on the events and competitors.

Britain’s Strongest Man 2008. North Qualifier
Top two qualify for BSM TV finals
Venue: West Pelton School, Tiswell lane, west pelton Stanley, Co Durham
Date: Saturday 12th April 2008, Start time: 1pm Athletes meeting 12.15pm

Events:
Event 1: 115kg Log lift
The athlete will start grasping the handles with the log on the floor. Upon the referee’s command, the athlete will begin lifting the log. The athlete will press the log above his head until the elbows are locked. The log must be held in position until the referee acknowledges the lift. The log will then be lowered back to chest and the lift repeated as many times as possible in the given time. The log maybe be replace to floor during the time period
Weight of log: 115 kilos
Time limit: 60 seconds

Event 2: 260 axle deadlift
The athlete will be grasped the bar dead lift style. The athlete will commence lifting on referee’s signal. Athletes must stand erect with legs straight and back extended in an upright position with shoulders locked back. The bar can only be returned to the start position on the referee’s signal (good lift). This sequence is to be repeated as many times as possible in the space of 60 seconds. The person lifting the most number of reps wins.
Lifting straps are permitted, but the use of adhesive substance on the hands is not permitted.
Time limit: 60 seconds
Start Weight: 265kg

Event 3: Farmers walk
In a race head to head. Each competitor will carry two cylinders (125 kilos each) over a 50 metre course. This event will be decided on the fastest time over the 50 metres or longest distance covered.

Top 8 qualify for last 2 events

Event 4: Carry & Drag
In a race head to head, each athlete will carry a 100kg tree stump 15metres and than drag a 310 kilo chain 15 metres, the fastest athlete wins, (if anyone can complete event,)fastest time wins.


Event 5: Stones of strength
5 stones are lifted in ascending order of weight onto a barrel in the fastest time possible. Times will be taken when each stone is placed onto the platform. Competitors who successfully lift all 5 stones will be scored according to time. Items falling off the platform must be replaced by the competitor before continuing onto the next item. Stones will be between 100kgs and 160kilos

We will start with 20 competitors from all over the north of England, Newcastle, Darlington, Durham, York, Wigan, Liverpool & Bolton, the top two athletes will go to the TV finals. Some competitors have competed in world strongest man and Britains strongest man (C5), UK strongest man final (Sky Sports) some are competeing for the first time.

Mark Lawson. Darlington. 2006 3rd UK strongest man final & Britain strongest man finalist
Simon Morton, Newcastle. 6 time winner of North East strongest man
David McAneney. Cumbria. North East Strongest man winner 2007
Turba Richard. Leeds.
Martin Mckane. Liverpool
Mark Haydock. Preston. European & world powerlifting champion
Jason Crompton. Bradford.
Glen Bailey. Lancaster.
Gary Gardner, Richmond.
Mick Towney. Burnley.
Mick Willetts. Durham.
Scott Heaton. Sheffield.
Tom Scarth. Yorkshire.
Shawn Kenny. Liverpool
Ian Atkinson. Wooler.

Mark Felix will not be competeing due to him competeing in Gremany same weekend.

Shit - ive just realised that im going to be in spain,

Any chance you can postpone this comp for 3 days until I get back ? im sure the competitors wont mind.

Hi Guys

This is my first show of 2008, not sure why I'm putting myself out for this, as i'm ill (with man flu).

As of today we have 20 competitors but as we all know some don't always show?

I'm must say even feeling under the weather I'm looking forward to this competition, we have some old hands competeing, Darren sadller, Mark Lawson, Simon Morton and Mark Westaby. Some new up and coming Shawn Kenny, David McAneney and Gary Gardner. these three guys showed a lot in 2007 and i think 2008 is their year to step to the plate.

I know its only the top two who get a spot atthe finals but with wild cards its anyones guess who esle will make it.

one last note: i would like to wish all taking part all the best and thank you for your time.
