love the sleeve of the fourth one down.

Thanks, and yes, they are certainly very nice... but, uh, they're not mine. That post is by Goblin. The only one which is mine is EROTIC JOURNEY.

:hi:

I do have a couple of the same tapes though and one is the one you refer to (#4th down) and yes that's a cool cover.

(not my scan but same release)

Love the plot description from the seller:

Quote:

Three girls working at an adult club in Hong Kong went on a vacation in Thailand. They got drunk in a club and got into a fight with the club manager.
Three men also vacationing in Thailand from Hong Kong just happen to be there and rescued them. The six of them went back to the hotel
and have sex. It turns out those 3 men were drug dealers and left some drugs with the girls. The three drug dealers got involved in a busted drug deal
when the 3 girls just turned up at the scene. The police thought the girls were involved and arrested them. They were sent to a prison camp in the Thai jungles.

OLD HORROR SERIES WANTED
The VEIL is also available from Something Weird:

Oldies.com releases are often a hit or miss so it would be a good idea to check info on the various version first. B)

Goblins "Palace Explosive" tapes
Awesome tapes, Goblin!

Out of those I have Cannibal Apocalypse, Creepers, and Bloodsucking Freaks (with a similar cover to Monezza's). And of course Creepers is the long English dubbed version, not the abomination that was released in the UK and some other markets.

(and other countries I'm sure) also have made web pages dedicated to VHS with cover galleries and what not,

For heaps of Danish cover scans check DEVAG:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Danis...106406262713995

- which for some reason has under 300 members altho it's a very much ALIVE group with tons of scans & info, while the "VHS" group has almost 7000 members altho they have never posted one single scan or piece of info. In other words it's DEAD. Go figure.

Spot on Jack! But what the hell is a nudie-cutie?

Never heard that term before...

Well, they were "porn movies" from the 60s that had cute nude (or semi nude) girls in them but no porn cos porn still wasn't allowed. HG Lewis started out making nudie cutie films.

So, 2 weeks ago, a french wanker paid in the afternoon and a few hours later he filed an item not received case against me!!

Did he expect you to deliver it right away by car or something!!!

It's crap I agree but think of the 1000s of good deals you've done on eBay. Nothing works perfect the whole time (but it's still annoying when it doesn't).

:hello!:

1. What tapes are considered collectable?
I'm having a hard time gauging the scope of the international VHS-collector community.
Film collectors are obviously interested in titles that have not had a LD/DVD/BD-release. Certain labels also seem to attract collectors, as do very early/old releases. But it seems to me that Exploitation films are the only 'Genre' with active interest from collectors. Is that in fact correct, or did I miss something?

If you by "exploitation" mean all kinds of "psychotronic" films (i.e. films in the *phantastic* genres like horror, revenge, trash, nudie-cuties, WIP, giallo, spaghetti westerns, etc.) then I'd say you're on the right track. Not many collectors of big Hollywood movies on vhs! That is not to say those movies don't have their audiences/fans cos they certainly do but I guess those fans "just" collect them of whatever new format is available, dvd and now blu-ray.

Why is that? Gee wizz, I have no idea. Maybe genre films just *invite* collectors like that.

2. Rental vs. sell-through
What's the deal with rental copies?
Browsing this forum it seems that most people are exclusively after rental tapes. Why's that?
Have many of the (especially early) tapes never been released as a retail/sell-through version? Do rentals have other covers than normal tapes and are as such rarer (more collectable)?
And how do I know the difference between a rental and sell-through tape? (Unless it says 'rental' on the cover in a language that I can understand)

Rentals often/mostly have different covers than sell-thru versions and the tape quality is mostly better (rental tapes are made to be rented out hundreds of times whereas it's my experience that sell-thru tapes often have tape roll after a few viewings). But it's not really because of the covers or quality that they're more collectable. I think it's the same reason why an old stamped stamp would be more valuable than a never used stamp (uh, that's the case isn't it? hahaha). Also, ex-renal tapes tend to become more rare than sell-thru's. How often do you hear about a sell-thru tape that is known to only exist in one or two copies.

4. Grading
Are there any standardized or generally accepted rules/shortcodes for grading/describing the condition of a tape?
What are features that collectors look for? (Obviously cut/ripped/torn covers, missing stickers/labels etc.) Do people care about additional markings/stickers by rental stores?

Well, an ex-rental tape in a good condition is obviously more valuable than one that worn. A water damaged cover, or a torn, ripped, etc. cover makes it less valuable unless it's a very rare tape (it's still less valuable but you're still gonna be able to attract attention among collectors). A worn tape, i.e. tape roll, crackly sound, etc. is something that a buyer would want to know about but it's still collectable if it's rare. I bought a copy of a Danish ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST even tho I knew the tape was very worn but it's just such a rare tape I wanted it anyway.

5. Value
I have absolutely no clue how to find out the value of a tape. Now, that's not really a problem if I ever have any tapes I want to sell since I could just list them on eBay and find out myself. However it also means that I don't dare to make any offers on items for sale on this board, since I want to start out my collection with cheap(er) tapes, but don't want to "insult" anyone by making far too low offers on their sales.
How do you set your selling offers or bids? Have you all simply been collecting for such a long that you know the values of your kind of tapes from previous sales? Or do you have a set of fixed base fees based on certain criteria (age and condition of the tape, popularity of director/actors, type of subgenre, origin of the tape etc.)?

And that's a tricky subject too. How do you find out the value of a tape? Stamp collectors have their little books they use to look up rare stamps but we don't really have anything similar. I think you're right on the experience thing; Most people here have just collected a long time and know the ins and outs of it. Ebay is not necessarily gonna give you the best idea of how much a tape is worth, sometimes a bidder is gonna run off with a rare tape for peanuts and at the next auction it'll go for a high price. Like with all rare things. People here are nice and I doubt anybody is gonna be insulted by you if you offer too low an offer for a rare tape.

These are just my thoughts in regards to some of your questions, maybe other collectors disagree with some of it. Often with things like these there is no one right answer. :ph43r:

There's both R-rated and unrated releases around the world. Dunno anything about the Aussie one though.

Are there R rated vhs versions around the world?

I thought there were only the same version (which might be cut in some local makets). The Danish vhs is certainly uncut.
