ONAR FILMS CHRONICLE
Ex-cel-lent!!

I ordered it quite a while ago from Sazuma (in Austria) and I'm looking forward to finally getting it.

If you speak to him, Miltos, please tell him that some of us are very appreciative of all the troubles and hard work he's had to go thru with this release!

HOLLYWOOD
I must admit I think Hollywood's grip on most consumers in the western world is so firm that even a destroyed Hollywood wouldn't make people watch more films from other countries. Just look at how it is today, most people don't even watch that many films from their neighbouring countries. I live in Denmark and I can't recall when a Dutch or Belgian film premiered here last time. And we never had stuff like TURKISH EXORCIST or KARATE GIRL playing in cinemas, that's for damn sure.

I think it very much boils down to the essence of that old kings' song: 'Give the people what they want'. People get what they demand from Hollywood. I mean look at the 80's; we had all these over-the-top gory and unpleasant (i.e. enjoyable) splatter-films come out of Hollywood because there was a big demand for them. And Hollywood movies in the 70's; they weren't all politically correct. Think DELIVERANCE!

Is there a solution? Nope! Just keep collecting your 'weird' movies from 'weird' countries and pretend everything is all right. There's nothing else to do. You won't wake up tomorrow and everyone will suddenly be familiar with... well, TURKISH EXORCIST et al!! - as frustrating and depressing as it is.

One thing that has changed for the better though is the arrival of the Internet. At least we can meet fellow like-minded here. Remember how it was 10-15 years ago. It's not perfect but at least better than what it used to be - in my view.

Uhh, the top line mysteriously transformed itself into Engleesh - does this mean we all have to follow suit?

Actually the version of LAND OF DEATH that you can get from Xploited cinema is a Russian release. It is however fullscreen format.

The version I ordered of CANNIBAL WORLD (CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST: THE BEGINNING) is a Japanese release in anamorphic widescreen.

Nah, I think the first guy just confused us all a bit there ;)
What was it about anyway, why the angry smiley?

Just send us a couple of tickets, Ayman, and we'll come right over. Can't wait to get started on OZ OF THE LIVING DEAD. Intro shot: the walking dead crossing Sydney harbour bridge...

Talking of horror down under: yesterday I watched a feature on Arte TV about a new New Zealand horror flick called BLACK SHEEP!! I must say it looked pretty good; rabid sheep ripping the flesh of screaming kiwis. The ad was something along the line of: 'There's 100 million sheep in New Zealand... and they are mighty pissed off'!!

Can't wait to see it!

The two Bruno Mattei films are the ones mentioned earlier in this thread. I posted a link to where one of them is available cheap (actually I ordered it last night. It came to just under 13 bucks including postage to Europe).

I found it myself, it's at:

http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/index.php

However, I suggest if you want CANNIBAL WORLD that you get it from www.hkflix.com cos the other place charge more than four times as much for it!!! ($42.95 to be exact!). It's only around ten measly bucks at hkflix.

Jack

Is there an Internet address for that place?

(I tried www.Xploited.com but it was some guy showing off his muscles, ha ha!)

I don't give a damn about them...

That's the spirit, Miltos :D

I had a quick look for those flicks and I came up with one of them at HKFLIX:

http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.540759/qx/details.htm

It says it's from a USA based distributor, however the subs are in Japanese so I don't know if it's a boot. The language is English though.

As for the other one I don't know. Maybe trash-online can help?

And as for ol' Bruno: yeah, I like him too! I quite liked RATS.

Yeah it really bugs me too when people kinda give your the 'looks' just because you're excited about flicks that aren't new or part of a new fancy wave, or have a message/deeper meaning. What's wrong with pure entertainment (or exploitation). that's what I say!

I hate how critics in my country relate every form of art to politics and always search for hidden meanings in every film they watch.

Which country is that? Not that it matters really; I think it's probably the same everywhere.

I recommend Bruno Mattei's recent CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST rip-offs

You didn't mention the titles of these?

FFS, I must be going blind!

Ok, Linus, no worries. There's no rush.

Btw, I remember you once told me you had a satellite dish (or cable tv) for at Turkish channel that screens lots of cool films, which channel is that again, and is it scrambled? I've got one Turkish channel (from the Astra satellite) but it's pretty dull.

Damn I lost all my contacts also in crash and I really don't want write another list.
I have completely forgot what Inanc film I promised but let me know the title and I will see what I can do. I only have one VCR and can't copy vhs to dvd. But I can figure something out. A promise is a promise:)

Uhh, that's terrible.

Well I don't remember the title off the top of my head but I think I might still have your email on my old computer. I'll let you know.

The film that I did get is: Olum Savascisi and you said they were kinda like a pair.

Would you believe it there's actually already an unofficial sequel:

No, sorry, you didn't (you promised me a wild Cetin Inanc flick that I never got, but no I never got your list. LOL).

Talking of Scandinavians; what happened to that guy in Malmø (I think it was) who was going to publish a fanzine dedicated to Turkish films? I remember you said you'd even written something for the debut issue. Did it ever come out? (if it did he owes me a copy as I sent him an ish of Stay Sick! :( ).

Hm, didn't you write to me and said you were too busy to collect films or something? Oh well, once you get bitten by the trash film bug it kinda stays in your veins :D

Jack

LA POLIZIA ORDINA:SPARATE A VISTA
Hejsan Linus,

Nice to 'see' you again. Yeah, it is indeed a small world. I also met the old Obskuriøst writer Ayman here!

I don't know if Curse of the Red Butterfly was ever released in Denmark, however I guess it was released in Norway as the spelling is Norwegian, not Danish (it's almost the same but slightly different).

I had a look at the page and it looks interesting, but, uh, it's rather difficult (=impossible) to read your Greek characters :P

Which one is the Rex?

Btw just out of curiosity; how many of you at this board are from Athens/Greece??

THE SWAMP or O VALTOS by Dinos Dimopoulos
Re: 'foreign': Oh no, I didn't mean it in a bad way and I'm sure Squonkamatic understood that. I just meant it was funny that... well, whatever, ha ha...

A wall full of Greek tapes or Greek films? Well, no matter what, an collection of rare flicks is always nice.

Very interesting about how it used to be in Greece. And I must admit I wasn't aware there was a big Greek exploitation genre until I got onto this site. I know nothing of it I'm afraid. I've watched ISLAND OF DEATH (Nico Mastorakis) and that's about it. As I've said before my 'home turf' is Hong Kong and Asia. But I'll be sure to seek out these films when I get a chance.

Jack

LA POLIZIA ORDINA:SPARATE A VISTA
Jezz, that film's been sitting on my shelf for four years and now people wanna watch it. A lost classic, ha ha. Ok, I'll figure something out and PM you. But we are talking underground here!
