YOUR LATEST RARE VHS PUCHASES
Lars Jacobsson

(watched Dead End Drive In the other night and to my surprise it turned out to be a quite nice little post apocalyptic flick):

If you liked it I suggest you also watch the director's other post apocalypse film, Turkey Shoot.

To be Pre-cert or not
Cheers, Tim. It seems no one knows. :o

The running time is slightly shorter than what's stated on the Danish cassette but I don't have that one so I can't compare and there's only a cut reg.1 dvd out.

To be Pre-cert or not
Tim, do you know if the UK pre-cert of Guyana: Crime of the Century is cut? Cheers.

hungry snake woman was released by MIMI in japan, no idea how rare it is, havent realy been looking for it :)

VERY RARE ! , last release on the cat mimi label and probably the rarest on the lable too....... don't know anyone other than Bill Knight that has one ..........

Really? That rare. :o Thanks that that piece of info, VH.

And of course ed209vscain isn't the first person to dvd-r it. It's available from bootleggers in the US.

I'd love to see a full scan of the Japanese tape. Bill, are you reading this :D

HEROIC BLOODSHED
Oh yeah, one film I forgot; John Woo's bastard step-son that doesn't get mentioned at family dinners: JUST HEROES. As far as I know this is the only uncut, lbx & Eng. subbed release there is:

Available from Amazon UK.

BLACK MAGIC 2
No worries, Stephen. Glad I could help out.

I have the HK dvd from Celestial of the first film but I just checked the US cover at HKflix and actually the cover for BM2 is exactly the same as for BM - just with an added "2". I'm sure they'll change it. They'll have to. :ph43r:

My favorite Asian Action movie is Ringo Lam's FULL CONTACT! I hope you already saw it!

Which release is that you have there, Chris?

Some info on the DVD versions (from Asian Dvd Guide):

Quote:

Full Contact
The Mei Ah DVDs are uncut despite the inaccurate Cat II rating on the packaging. The theatrical release trimmed some of the more violent moments such as stabbings, bullet impacts and blood spurts. The US Columbia disc is also intact, but has an alternate music track. The MIHK VHS is cut by 34 secs for banned weaponry. The other violence is intact. The HKL DVD is uncut and contains the same workprint soundtrack as Columbia edition.

Thanks. B)

BLACK MAGIC 2
Around new year (thanks to Fred Adelman) I got a dvd-r copy of Celestial's fully uncut, non-English dubbed, and letterboxed print of one of my absolute favourite dark Hong Kong horror movies from the 80; BLACK MAGIC 2. Now, BLACK MAGIC is good - but BM2 is twice as good! If you've watched a copy of the old dubbed US vhs (aka Revenge of the Zombies) you have something to look forward to; I haven't timed them but the uncut version runs approximately 10 min longer and is almost a completely different film.

The problem with Celestial is just they never bothered to release the uncut version on dvd. And they couldn't even be arsed to put it out on a lousy vcd! But now, lo and behold, now it's finally come out on dvd in the US:

The cover is ATROCIOUSLY awful!!! And I sooo wish it's just temporary cover and not the real one.

Here's the old HK poster which they ought to use:

(and he wasn't making up titles or plots... ^__-).

Haha, no I guess not. Weisser on the other hand...

You met Craig! Cool!
It's funny, I have an old magazine that has ad in it for a video store where he is standing next to Thomas Weisser and Dave Torderello (of Nake! Screaming! Terror! zine) inside the store. Yeah, long ago.

Unfortunately it seems this ETC link goes to Crimson Celluloid 13_14 instead of ETC. :o

EDIT: and the "Fantasy Film Memory", "Grindhouse" + "It's only a movie #3" are wrong too. :( I hope it's just the links that are wrong (not the uploads) and that you can fix them.

EXCELLENT TRADER
Usually I don't take part in this thread as I have this ancient idea that of course you expect a trade partner to fulfill their obligations. What I expect of someone else I fully understand that they expect of me. But let me just say it collectively this one time: Thanks to everyone I've dealt with (and plan to deal with) for good, honest, quick, fair, mano a mano trading! Cheers mates!! :D

Member X, you're linking to the legendary Video 48 blog which is one of the blogs Jared said he got the titles from.  ;)

I just took those links from my bookmarks and posted them and now everyone can read the blog, I don't see how that would hurt.

You have to hide these things otherwise non-hardcore collectors will find out about it all. We have to keep all this to ourselves. It's only interesting if no-one knows about it.

There's only one cure for you:

And unfortunately many of these films are if not lost then at least not released anywhere in home cinema formats. Not even in the Philippines.

I'm in the process of downloading these and, hey, when I looked thru the titles the first time round I didn't notice you had the N!S!T! issues!! Wauw!!

I actually have issue 3 & 4/5 and that last one is most likely my all time single fave fanzine publication! That issue is the original version of what later was released as the "Asian Cult Cinema Book"! But here's where it began. And Tim Paxton's introduction to Hong Kong cinema on page 4 is the best introductory piece I ever read. It just bursts with entusiasme. And those pages that followed with Tim's reviews all became my BIBLE for video hunting for the years that followed!! BLOOD OF THE BLACK DOG, THE RAPE AFTER, BLACK MAGIC WITH BUDDHA, etc. etc.!!! :D I still remember the day when I picked up that issue at Minotaur in Melbourne in the early 90s. Yeah, long ago.

I look forward to downloading and reading the issue of these that I didn't have already (#2). Once again, thanks for posting these! :D

Oh, thanks Jack. I had forgotten about the Weng Weng blog. Does he have another?

Oh man!! You have been away that's for sure   About a month ago Blog.spot decided to delete his Weng Weng blog. Just like that. They ERAZED it. They KILLED it! They said it was SPAM and they threw it in the trash. No kidding. So Andrew put up another one but lo and behold after 3 days Blog.spot decided it wasn't spam and put it back up. Just like that. With all its contents and all. But at stage Andrew had started another one and (due to some HINTS) he's now organising it so the film entries are easy to look up. If I've understood it right everything's gonna be moved over there eventually.

HEROIC BLOODSHED
A couple more titles:

CITY WAR - Chow Yun Fat and Ti Lung.

CURRY AND PEPPER - Jacky Cheung, Eric Tsang

FLAMING BROTHERS aka FLAME BROTHERS - Alan Tang & Chow Yun Fat.

KILLER'S ROMANCE - Simon Yam & Joey Wong

LEGACY OF RAGE -probably Brandon Lee's best film.

ON THE RUN - one of my all time favourite HK films! Is it heroic bloodshed? Maybe not but it's a fantastic HK cinema noir film with the coolest female hitman (with the raddest hairdo!! LOL). Only uncut on "Made in HK" vhs.

RETURN ENGAGEMENT - Alan Tang & Simon Yam + Andy Lau.

RICH AND FAMOUS - Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Danny Lee.

TRAGIC HERO (sequel to Rich and Famous) - C.Y.Fat & Andy Lau.

WILD SEARCH - Chow Yun Fat & Cherrie Chung

They are all good!! But the ultimate in the genre is and will always be John Woo's ABT 1&2, THE KILLER, HARD-BOILED, and A BULLET IN THE HEAD.
