This is from Televista, a bootleg company that somehow gets away with. They also have the much sought after WHITE DOG on their upcoming list. Reportedly, the quality is no better than vhs transfers.

So TELEVISTA is a bootleg company? What do you mean? The cheap "VHS" quality and the poor DVD releases mark the label as "bootleg" or you mean they don't pay for copyrights? probably because of the US laws? i'm really very confused with all these cheap USA releases. There are several cheap Mexican horror DVDs around but CasaNegra officially released a few of them in much better quality & extras. I try to say - how the USA law covers these cheap labels when there are official releases of the SAME films?

Now, firstly, Andras said Televista is a bootleg company. I didn't. I have no idea what they are. And secondly, unfortunately it's not only bootleg companies that put out DVDs with shitty picture quality (which you could call 'bootleg quality' even if they're not bootlegs). And thirdly, according to a post Jared did over at DVDMANIACS there's no proper print of this film available. I guess Jared has been speaking to his secret friends (men in shades and long coats) on the grapevine :P and according to them (or rumour) Mondo Macabro wanted to put it out but couldn't get hold of a proper print. Or something. So maybe we'll be stuck with a VHS quality looking DVD forever and ever. Not good but at least we'll be able to watch it. If you knew how many of these films that I've had to get on VCD from Malaysia, in Indonesian with shitty fullscreen fucked up picture quality... :( I'm happy every time I get to get something on DVD dubbed/subbed in English - even if it doesn't looks like a remastered release from Anchor Bay or CasaNegra!

WHITE DOG is a Paramount picture. Just like 4 FLIES,there's some problem dealing with them that prevented the release on DVD. WHITE DOG has no official release because no one could secure the copyright (even Criterion tried). Did they pay for copyright? I doubt that. Is WHITE DOG a "public domain" title then?

By the way,we have these companies over here that release uncopyrighted films legally (the big shops are full of them). They simply steal the material from foreign DVDs, the latest example is KWAIDAN which was off from the Eureka disc (sometimes English subs pop up betraying the origin). All of them are small distributors but with very good logistics (their stuff is everywhere). Major labels are more careful (though who knows).

Though I consider myself a hardcore VHS-fundamentalist I had a perfectly mint "One Armed Executioner" yesterday.
Put it in my VCR an ff'd it because it hadn't been played in ages...
It ff'd, ff'd and ff'd endlessly cause the tape let loose from the reel.
So I couldn't rww and thus havent seen the movie :(

Yeah, that's a not so nice situation. But if you're a little technical you can repair that very easily though.
