I was wondering if there have been any recent HK dvd releases of older HK films?
Can't find any...

Great little film, H.K. version of Last House On The Left.

Jack, what's in the U.K. On The Run tape that isn't in the H.K. version?

The final scene on the docks has been removed and if I remember correctly a text card at the end is gone too (but I don't have the cut version so I can't check this). Apparently the other subtitled versions* end rather abruptly whereas ... SPOILER ... the uncut tape ends with the main characters being arrested by the police. I would have linked to screen grabs but unfortunately I've just discovered they were posted on ADG which ... is no more. :(

The UK tape also has remastered English subs.

*Apparently there is an old uncut HK VCD but it's not English friendly.

Try the Shaw Brothers film Men from the Gutter. A forgotten, hard boiled action/crime classic that I always recommend people to check out.

Seem the film! Pretty neat indeed, thanks for the rec!

Jack, HK Video got On the Run remastered uncut, but it's not english friendly. Haven't got it so I can't comment. I heard the Joy Sales vcd is uncut too, anyone can confirm? I'm thinking of getting that hk video dvd, but if the vcd looks fine, I could save the money.

Thanks for the info on the DVD. I'm pretty sure I'd already heard of that French DVD and that's why I always say there's no English friendly uncut version other than the UK tape. I don't know about the FS VCD, I've asked on several forums but have never got a reply. Nobody seems to know, LOL. And even if it's uncut the subs are bound to be the usual wonky ones. The UK tape has restored subs in proper English and since the PQ wouldn't be any better on the VCD I'm fine with the tape. BUT if you get the VCD do please let us know about the cut status. :hello!:

The Joy Sales VCD of On The Run is definitely cut and missing the scene with the doctor at the end plus the epilogue.

The French DVD is fully uncut. It's not English friendly but I made a custom English subtitled version of it about a year ago.

I love this film and rate it up there as one of the very best HK new wave action movies. Hard hitting, gritty and no nonsense.
