BAD TIMES FOR ONAR FILMS

When I used to operate my DVD company "Crippled Brothers Films" (www.crippledbrothers.com) it cost me about 8000$ to release 4 titles and I printed 1000 copies of each and that included the sleeves, and wer're talking about 3 years ago. The lucky thing for me is that I was a one-man army so I did the design of the sleeves, did the interviews in the bonuses etc...

So yes, if you do the maths that is 2$ per DVD roughly but if you sell it around 10$ it is not that bad. However, you need to find the 1000 people willing to buy that... which was the main obstacle for me.

* Btw, If anybody is interested by my DVDs DO NOT ORDER ON THE WEBSITE. I got a dispute with /$%"/$% Paypal a year ago and cancelled my account, I beleive it is still linked, so instead PM me.

I'm gonna repeat my question I once asked, but nobody answered. How much does an interview cost? I'd imagine it varies a lot, but a few examples would be nice.

Bill what is the cost of releasing an Onar DVD??  I could be interested in helping you with financing but have no idea abut DVD releasing apart from not expecting to make money lol.

The whole final costs, including factory, etc etc, everything, is about 6-7,000 EURO, or 10-12,000$, PER TITLE of course.

This means that by printing 500 pcs the COST per copy is at least 12 EURO or 18$.

Hmmm, interested in financing me?
In what way my heroic friend?
The EXACT words should be "I want to WASTE cash on your shit".
Think again buddy.

After ALL my wholesale buyers went to hell, closed down, or just quit buying from me since they didn't sell, this business is worse than flogging a dead horse.

Bill im not trying to be "heroic" nor waste money on "on your shit"....

But I am interested in supporting a label that I would rather see running then not, if I was in a position where there was a possibilty of my business closing I would be alot more pleasent to someone who offered support as you never know what they could offer & that is not just from a financial standpoint.

Chevy,
Sorry for sounding unpleasant man!

I didn't mean to offend you or anything like that.
I was just being funny.

I'm just a desperate and despondent man, that's all.

I see everything black.

I have no hopes at all.

And I'm trying to protect people like you or anyone from investing on this kind of business and especially MINE.

Would you rather I was optimistic and lure you into a doomed deal?

When your business is about to close everything looks black, bad and dead.
Have you ever been in my position?

BUT of course, it NEVER hurts to listen to ideas.
Ideas don't cost so I'm ready to listen to anyone.

Sorry again, but DON'T take it personally!
I'm just pushing up daisies... :(

ONAR is right.

Authoring and selling DVDs used to be a good thing let's say 6-7 years ago but now everything is so cheap and people are downloading. Needless to say that some are already making a shift to Blu-ray slowly.

Releasing small titles or cool unknown stuff is a great thing and Onar did a good job with that for sure. But like he mentioned, the big problem reside with the contact or should I say the distributors. If you do have good distribution and you can even sell in some big franchised stores than you will have no problem getting rid of your 1000-2000-3000 copies.

Labels like Synapse, Mya, Troma, etc. might be small companies but they do have a great distribution system, so even if they release some crap (and they do) it's going to sell somehow and they are going to make their profit.

But yeah, the whole DVD business is suffering right now. Except maybe for the DVD-R business?
