Wow. I was rendered nearly speechless by this bizarre, nonsensical spectacle. There is not a single scene in the movie that is not totally, completely insane. A triumph of cinematic irrationality. Maybe the best Indo film fantastique I've seen this side of MYSTICS IN BALI. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE, watch it or your life will be woefully inadequate. Don't find yourself on your deathbed whispering pathetically to your weepy loved ones - "if only I had listened to Jared and watched HUNGRY SNAKE WOMAN ... " Jack, any thoughts? |

I'm really confused about this film. We have a Greek VHS release of THE SNAKE QUEEN and I always thought it was HUNGRY SNAKE WOMAN but now I know it is a different film...In fact I think Suzzanna has made a few other "snake woman" films too...at least a trilogy. I have the other two on VCD but I haven't watched them yet. Anyone who knows more about it? Here is the trilogy from IMDb: NYI BLORONG (1982) aka THE SNAKE QUEEN http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0285808/ PERKAWINAN NYI BLORONG (1983) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451856/ PETUALANGAN CINTA NYI BLORONG (1986) aka THE HUNGRY SNAKE WOMAN http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0471871/ But Suzzanna's filmography on IMDb is very poor, I know for sure as I have many more of her films that aren't there, so I wonder if there were more of those "snake woman" ones The Greek SNAKE QUEEN VHS below: |

It's certainly very similar to SNAKE QUEEN, only much weirder, if you can believe it. |

I also just found it a few days ago when I was browsing the Rapi website that was posted about in this forum earlier. I Googled a few titles to find out more about them, and this database popped up!

Except for this VCD-release, does anyone know of any other releases? Or is the VCD easy to get ahold of? |

No, sorry, Jared, I have nada to say since I haven't watched this. And Lova, I don't know about any other versions of this, does anybody? Is there an English dubbed print anywhere? Where did you get yours from, Jared? I have THE SNAKE QUEEN that Miltos mentions is out on Greek VHS. In fact my DVD bootleg from Shocking Videos is taken from that video. And you are right, Miltos, it's all very confusing. To make it even more confusing, there's even another NYI BLORONG film entitled KISAH CINTA NYI BLORONG (one of the VCDs I got from ESINDO: http://z9.invisionfree.com/THE_CINEHOUND_F...p?showtopic=791 It doesn't star Suzzanna though. ![]() Suzzanna also did a similar film, just as a crocodile queen instead of a snake queen, called WHITE CROCODILE QUEEN: ![]() I remember seeing some bootleg company having an English dubbed print of this for sale but I didn't buy it (certainly not due to lack of interest but lack of dough!!). It must be a very rare print since I've only seen it that one place. I've watched my VCD version of it and it's a very enjoyable film. Recommended for sure!! I knew about that World Film Data Base and have used it to find out about Indo flicks. It is very accurate and very good. Much better than the often retardedly bad IMDb!!! It doesn't provide reviews but the alternative titles are accurate and not written by 12 year olds as is often the case with IMDb. Jack |
