Hi Guys

We're just geting ready our release of Queen of Black Magic. I was just wondering if anyone out there had any interesting video covers, posters or stills for this film. We get very little (make that nothing!) from Rapi.

I have the Belgian poster, English poster, French poster, US video release, Indonesian video release etc, but would welcome anything else. If you have anything scannned, please let me know. All help will be credited, of course.

Thanks!

Welcome to Cinehound, Pete. Uhh, this forum is about world-weird type movies and I think I speak for everyone here when I say we are looking forward to QUEEN über-much!

I have the Indo VCD, I have no idea if it's the same cover as the Indonesian video. I posted a scan of it at the top of this thread:

http://z9.invisionfree.com/THE_CINEHOUND_F...p?showtopic=791

If you don't have it I can scan it for you or you might want to get it from the store that the thread is about. They're located in the US.

Oh, and since you're here anyway  I'm dying to know about your release of Jaka Sembung: are you going to put out any of the sequels as well. Would it be possible to include the Indonesian audio track for some of these movie?

I just checked my indonesian pre-recorded betamax of Queen of Black magic.
the runtime of this pal betamax is 104 minutes and a few seconds / fullscreen

the mondomacabro dvd is ofcours much better quality and widescreen but only runs 89:43 minutes.
hard to believe that the mondo macabro dvd runs allmost 15 min shorter!

filmindonesia says the movie should run 95 minutes

90 min runtime in 24fps NTSC (MonoMacabro DVD) is actually (24/25)*90=86 min in 25 fps PAL . So the tape is in fact 20 minutes longer (unless the tape adds 1 frame every 24 or the DVD is a bad PAL2NTSC conversion)

my excuses ..... I read the runtime wrong on the vlc player ... :(
runtime is allmost the same, I compared the 2 versions, and there are a few differences, but nothing dramatical.
the betamax is the same as the vcd I can imagen.
the betamax doesnt has some of the "erotic" and some of the gore scene's.

this is not on the dvd ....
19:05 / +/- 40sec Murin wakes up in the wich doctors cabin and his disorientated. the wich doctor is cooking something, he sees murin woke up something and walks towards her.
29:45 / +/- 30sec Before the shot of the flower. Murin is looking at her mothers burned house.
32:37 / +/- 10sec After the bee killing, the mother is law is serving the food, than the man comes in the dining room
39:28 / +/- 37sec the wich doctor walks through the woods and arrives at his cabin. he looks through the window at murin.
46:33 / +/- 1:40sec Murins brother arrives at the village and asks some random villagers were the mosk is
01:1:50 / +/- 30sec Villagers are repairing the mosk
01:08:57 / +/- 12sec man praying scene is longer
01:10:38 / +/- 18sec man entering mosk
01:29:44 / +/- 1:10sec end is extended, all people come out of the mosk and escort murins brother who is holding murins body in his arms and they all walk towards the woods.

so an extra +/- 05:47 minutes ..... but nothing that really influences the story.

Even if there's no important difference here, it's very interesting to learn about these differences. Thanks for doing the leg work, Shootgringoshoot!!! :hello!:

I own the Belgian vhs and I remember reading years ago that it has bits and pieces that aren't on the dvd. But I have never done an actual comparison between the vhs and the mm dvd. I wonder if the Belgian vhs and your Indo Betamax present the same version.

The details mentioned above are unique to the Bahasa Indonesia version of the film. Comparable to Mystics in Bali, they made different edits for domestic release and international release.

In case of "Ratu ilmu hitam", the Indonesian version has several additional dialogue or character development scenes, also an extended ending (as detailed in shootgringoshoot's post).

The domestic version is censored in that it replaces a few scenes of "erotic" footage with shots of snakes and other animals. It also cuts away from the goriest bits considerably earlier. The shots ARE there, but shorter, no close-ups, you get the idea.

The Belgian Variety VHS is clearly based on the international, English language edit (same as the MM DVD). I remember it to have ADDITIONAL cuts, which means further dialogue/character development was left out, probably to save on tape. The gore and splatter is all there.
I'm not sure if it has any additional bits when compared to the MM (can't rule it out either). But definitely not the longer scenes from the Bahasa Indonesia edit.

Still, it's a great tape to own! :)

Ahh, okay. Thanks, Godzilla 2000. Yeah, it's a cool tape to own. And I love the cover!

Some Filipino films do the same; domestic version = more dialogue scenes than internationally released version.

THE KILLING OF SATAN has 20-30 minutes extra footage in the Tagalog language version! (it's on YouTube)
