For years, the 1969 (released in 1970) Filipino/American coproduction known as CURSE OF THE VAMPIRES has been falsely identified as "Dugo ng Vampira" - its supposed Tagalog title. From 1970 to this day, practically every source, printed or on line, has perpetrated the same error. With a notable exception: Internet Movie Database. IMDb gives the title : "Ibulong mo sa Hangin" as the Pinoy title of the movie. But - strangely enough, "Dugo ng Vampira" simply doesn't appear anywhere on their site. After some research in Filipino sources, it appears that "Dugo ng Vampira" does really exist, and its date - 1969 - is the same than "Curse of the Vampires", so it could explain the continuous error. This, added to the fact that Filipino film production is so badly referenced - generally. DUGO NG VAMPIRA, the real one, was directed by Emmanuel H. Borlaza, based on a screenplay by Borlaza, from a story by Rico Bello Omagad. Music by David Holmsen. The crew: Gina Pareno, Edgar Salcedo, Myrna Delgado, Tito Galla, Charlie Davao, Bella Flores, Venchito Galvez, Ven Medina, Linda Martin, Aring Bautista, Glenn Bernardo. And it was made in black & white, not in color like "Curse of the Vampires"... But the REAL surprise - and the main reason of this post - is that the movie has survived, and can be ordered directly on the Web, on VHS only I'm afraid, from the U-matic source still in existence !!! ![]() The two vampire movies directed by Gerardo de Leon: left - Kulai Dugo ang Gabi (The Blood Drinkers / Vampire People) - 1966 right - Ibulong mo sa Hangin (Curse of the Vampires / Blood of the Vampires) - 1969 ![]() ... and this is the real thing : [/

Eight years later and you finally get a reply. Thanks for the info, Sweeney Todd. Did you ever get to watch the film? Are you still around, mate? Haven't seen you here for ages. How are you? |
